On the exactness of soft theorems
Soft behaviours of S-matrix for massless theories reflect the underlying
symmetry principle that enforces its masslessness. As an expansion in soft
momenta, sub-leading soft theorems can arise either due to (I) unique structure
of the fundamental vertex or (II) presence of enhanced broken-symmetries. While
the former is expected to be modified by infrared or ultraviolet divergences,
the latter should remain exact to all orders in perturbation theory. Using
current algebra, we clarify such distinction for spontaneously broken (super)
Poincar\'e and (super) conformal symmetry. We compute the UV divergences of
DBI, conformal DBI, and A-V theory to verify the exactness of type (II) soft
theorems, while type (I) are shown to be broken and the soft-modifying
higher-dimensional operators are identified. As further evidence for the
exactness of type (II) soft theorems, we consider the alpha' expansion of both
super and bosonic open strings amplitudes, and verify the validity of the
translation symmetry breaking soft-theorems up to O(alpha'^6). Thus the
massless S-matrix of string theory "knows" about the presence of D-branes.Comment: 35 pages. Additional mathematica note book with the UV-divergenece of

Cryptic receptors for insulin-like growth factor II in the plasma membrane of rat adipocytes â a possible link to cellular insulin resistance
AbstractTo further elucidate the mechanisms for short-term regulation of the receptor for insulin-like growth factor II (IGF-II), we investigated effects of insulin, cAMP and phosphatase inhibitors on cell surface 125I-IGF-II binding in rat adipocytes. Preincubation with the serine/threonine phosphatase inhibitor okadaic acid (OA, 1 ÎŒMM) or the non-hydrolysable cAMP analogue N6-mbcAMP (4 mM) markedly impaired insulin-stimulated 125I-IGF-II binding. Furthermore, addition of OA enhanced the inhibitory effect exerted by N6-mbcAMP. N6-mbcAMP also induced an insensitivity to insulin which was normalized by concomitant addition of the tyrosine phosphatase inhibitor vanadate (0.5 mM). In contrast, vanadate did not affect the impairment in maximal insulin-stimulated 25I-IGF-II binding produced by either OA or N6-mbcAMP. Phospholipase C (PLC), which cleaves phospholipids at the cell surface, markedly enhanced cell surface 125I-IGF-II binding in a concentration-dependent manner. Scatchard analysis demonstrated that the effect of PLC was due to an increased number of binding sites suggesting that âcrypticâ IGF-II receptors are associated with the plasma membrane (PM). PLC (5 U/ml) also reversed the N6-mbcAMP-induced decrease of 125I-IGF-II binding at a low insulin concentration (10 ÎŒU/ml). Taken together, these data indicate that CAMP, similar to its effects on the glucose transporter GLUT 4 and the insulin receptor, may increase the proportion of functionally cryptic IGF-II receptors in the PM through mechanisms involving serine phosphorylation, possibly of a docking or coupling protein. Tyrosine phosphorylation appears to exert an opposite effect promoting the full cell surface expression of receptors
Silicon nitride metalenses for unpolarized high-NA visible imaging
As one of nanoscale planar structures, metasurface has shown excellent
superiorities on manipulating light intensity, phase and/or polarization with
specially designed nanoposts pattern. It allows to miniature a bulky optical
lens into the chip-size metalens with wavelength-order thickness, playing an
unprecedented role in visible imaging systems (e.g. ultrawide-angle lens and
telephoto). However, a CMOS-compatible metalens has yet to be achieved in the
visible region due to the limitation on material properties such as
transmission and compatibility. Here, we experimentally demonstrate a divergent
metalens based on silicon nitride platform with large numerical aperture
(NA~0.98) and high transmission (~0.8) for unpolarized visible light,
fabricated by a 695-nm-thick hexagonal silicon nitride array with a minimum
space of 42 nm between adjacent nanoposts. Nearly diffraction-limit virtual
focus spots are achieved within the visible region. Such metalens enables to
shrink objects into a micro-scale size field of view as small as a single-mode
fiber core. Furthermore, a macroscopic metalens with 1-cm-diameter is also
realized including over half billion nanoposts, showing a potential application
of wide viewing-angle functionality. Thanks to the high-transmission and
CMOS-compatibility of silicon nitride, our findings may open a new door for the
miniaturization of optical lenses in the fields of optical fibers,
microendoscopes, smart phones, aerial cameras, beam shaping, and other
integrated on-chip devices.Comment: 16 pages, 7 figure
