A Chattering Free Discrete-Time Global Sliding Mode Controller for Optoelectronic Tracking System

    Get PDF
Aiming at the uncertainties including parameter variations and external disturbances in optoelectronic tracking system, a discrete-time global sliding mode controller (DGSMC) is proposed. By the design of nonlinear switching function, the initial state of control system is set on the switching surface. An adaptive discrete-time reaching law is introduced to suppress the high-frequency chattering at control input, and a linear extrapolation method is employed to estimate the unknown uncertainties and commands. The global reachability for sliding mode and the chattering-free property are proven by means of mathematical derivation. Numerical simulation presents that the proposed DGSMC scheme not only ensures strong robustness against system uncertainties and small tracking error, but also suppresses the high-frequency chattering at control input effectively, compared with the SMC scheme using conventional discrete-time reaching law

Gemini surfactant-modified activated carbon for remediation of hexavalent chromium from water

Gemini surfactants, with double hydrophilic and hydrophobic groups, offer potentially orders of magnitude greater surface activity compared to similar single unit molecules. A cationic Gemini surfactant (Propyl didodecyldimethylammonium Bromide, PDDDAB) and a conventional cationic surfactant (Dodecyltrimethylammonium Bromide, DTAB) were used to pre-treat and generate activated carbon. The removal efficiency of the surfactant-modified activated carbon through adsorption of chromium(VI) was investigated under controlled laboratory conditions. Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) were used to investigate the surface changes of surfactant-modified activated carbon. The effect of important parameters such as adsorbent dosage, pH, ionic strength and contact time were also investigated. The chromium(VI) was adsorbed more significantly on the Gemini surfactant-modified activated carbon than on the conventional surfactant-modified activated carbon. The correlation coefficients show the data best fit the Freundlich model, which confirms the monolayer adsorption of chromium(VI) onto Gemini surfactant-modified activated carbon. From this assessment, the surfactant-modified (especially Gemini surfactant-modified) activated carbon in this study showed promise for practical applications to treat water pollution

Mechanism of dissolution and oxidation of stibnite mediated by the coupling of iron and typical antimony oxidizing bacteria

Antimony oxidizing bacteria (SbOB) and iron oxides are the main driving factors to the weathering dissolution and oxidation of stibnite (Sb2S3) waste ore. The characteristics of the dissolution and oxidation process of stibnite in the absence of strain AO-1 and iron oxides, Pseudomonas sp. AO-1-mediated (AO-1-mediated), Fe (Fe, Fe2(SO4)3, and FeS2) -mediated, and coupled-mediated groups (Fe+AO-1, Fe2(SO4)3+AO-1, FeS2+AO-1) under various pH values were examined through sequential batch experiments. The results showed that all the AO-1-mediated, Fe-mediated and coupled-mediated can promote the dissolution and oxidation of stibnite, and the promotion effect increased with the rise of pH. The order of contribution to the dissolution of stibnite under the coupling mediation is as follows: coupling effect (42.4-78.2%) > chemical effect (19.4-56.6%) > biological effect (0.9-2.4%). In addition, the dissolution and oxidation mechanisms of stibnite were further investigated and analyzed in combination with scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). This study has important implications for elucidating the source control and geochemical behavior of antimony pollution in antimony mining areas

Spatial Interpolation of Annual Runoff in Ungauged Basins Based on the Improved Information Diffusion Model Using a Genetic Algorithm

Prediction in Ungauged Basins (PUB) is an important task for water resources planning and management and remains a fundamental challenge for the hydrological community. In recent years, geostatistical methods have proven valuable for estimating hydrological variables in ungauged catchments. However, four major problems restrict the development of geostatistical methods. We established a new information diffusion model based on genetic algorithm (GIDM) for spatial interpolating of runoff in the ungauged basins. Genetic algorithms (GA) are used to generate high-quality solutions to optimization and search problems. So, using GA, the parameter of optimal window width can be obtained. To test our new method, seven experiments for the annual runoff interpolation based on GIDM at 17 stations on the mainstream and tributaries of the Yellow River are carried out and compared with the inverse distance weighting (IDW) method, Cokriging (COK) method, and conventional IDMs using the same sparse observed data. The seven experiments all show that the GIDM method can solve four problems of the previous geostatistical methods to some extent and obtains best accuracy among four different models. The key problems of the PUB research are the lack of observation data and the difficulties in information extraction. So the GIDM is a new and useful tool to solve the Prediction in Ungauged Basins (PUB) problem and to improve the water management

<p>Abstract</p> <p>Background</p> <p>The caspase family, which plays a central role in apoptosis in metazoans, has undergone an expansion in amphioxus, increasing to 45 members through domain recombination and shuffling.</p> <p>Results</p> <p>In order to shed light on the conservation and uniqueness of this family in amphioxus, we cloned three representative caspase genes, designated as <it>bbtCaspase-8, bbtCaspase-1/2 </it>and <it>bbtCaspase3</it>-like, from the amphioxus <it>Branchiostoma belcheri tsingtauense</it>. We found that <it>bbtCaspase-8 </it>with conserved protein architecture is involved in the Fas-associated death domain-Caspase-8 mediated pro-apoptotic extrinsic pathway, while <it>bbtCaspase3</it>-like may mediate a nuclear apoptotic pathway in amphioxus. Also, <it>bbtCaspase-1/2 </it>can co-localize with <it>bbtFADD2 </it>in the nucleus, and be recruited to the cytoplasm by amphioxus apoptosis associated speck-like proteins containing a caspase recruitment domain, indicating that <it>bbtCaspase-1/2 </it>may serve as a switch between apoptosis and caspase-dependent innate immune response in invertebrates. Finally, amphioxus extrinsic apoptotic pathway related caspases played important roles in early embryogenesis.</p> <p>Conclusions</p> <p>Our study not only demonstrates the conservation of <it>bbtCaspase-8 </it>in apoptosis, but also reveals the unique features of several amphioxus caspases with novel domain architectures arose some 500 million years ago.</p
