Identification and Function Prediction of Novel MicroRNAs in Laoshan Dairy Goats

    Get PDF
MicroRNAs are a class of endogenous small RNAs that play important roles in post-transcriptional gene regulation by directing degradation of mRNAs or facilitating repression of target gene translation. In this study, three small RNA cDNA libraries from the mammary gland tissues of Laoshan dairy goats (Capra hircus) were constructed and sequenced, individually. Through Solexa high-throughput sequencing and bioinformatics analysis, we obtained 50 presumptive novel miRNAs candidates, and 55,448 putative target genes were predicted. GO annotations and KEGG pathway analyses showed the majority of target genes were involved in various biological processes and metabolic pathways. Our results discovered more information about the regulation network between miRNAs and mRNAs and paved a foundation for the molecular genetics of mammary gland development in goats

Effects of salt stress and nitrogen application on growth and ion accumulation of Suaeda salsa plants

Suaeda salsa is a typical pioneer species which can grow well in high salt environmental conditions. The objective of this study is to evaluate the effect of different levels of salinity (5.25, 10.5 and 21g NaCl per kg soil) and nutrient supply (0, 0.3, 0.6 and 1.2g urea per kg soil) on plant morphology, biomass, accumulation of ions and C/N ratio in leaves of S. salsa. The results showed that the plant height, number of branches, length of branches and diameter of shoot were significantly affected by salt stress, and the nitrogen released the negative effects of salt. The nitrogen treatment increased the biomass ofleaf, shoot and root. Leaf water content was significantly affected by the interaction of salt stress andnitrogen treatment. The content of Na + and Cl- increased significantly as increasing of salt, the content ofK+, Ca2+, Mg2+ and SO 42- decreased simultaneously to keep ion balance. The C/N ratio decreased significantly as increasing of nitrogen treatment. The content of proline increased significantly with the increasing of salt and nitrogen treatments. The results together indicated that at different saltenvironment, different amount of nitrogen supply can be used to improve the population growth of S.salsa plants, and the restoration of degraded wetland could be accelerated by nutrient supply reasonably.&nbsp

Clinical manifestations and imaging and pathological features of giant cell angioblastoma: Report of four cases and literature review

Giant cell angioblastoma is a relatively rare vasogenic tumour. To date, studies on its clinical manifestations, imaging characteristics, pathological features, and prognosis are extremely limited and unknown, with only a few cases recorded. In this study, four cases of giant cell angioblastoma confirmed by pathological examination were reported to improve our understanding and deep exploration of the tumour spectrum. All cases in our study were male, including two adults and two boys. The lesions were located in the lower segment of the femur, medial condyle of the femur, knee joint, and popliteal fossa. Regarding the imaging characteristics, two patients with lesions in bone showed bone destruction, while the other two had lesions that invaded soft tissues, showing irregular, abnormal signal shadows and obvious enhancement. Histopathological analysis revealed that the nodular tumour tissue was mainly composed of oval and spindle cells, with varying numbers of osteoclast-like multinucleated giant cells, and the interstitial tissues were often filled with blood vessels of different sizes. The immunophenotype demonstrates that endothelial cells of small vessels in nodules expressed CD31, SMA, and ERG, while osteoclast-like multinucleated giant cells and histiocytes expressed CD68 and CD163, and the surrounding cells expressed SMA. All four patients were treated with surgical resection. One of them relapsed 1 month after surgery and received a second surgical resection. No distant metastasis or death occurred during the follow-up period. This study indicates that giant cell angioblastoma is a local invasive vascular tumour that can develop both in children and adults with skin, mucous membrane, soft tissue, and bone involvement. Imaging characteristics show bone destruction and irregular, abnormal signal shadows; in addition, obvious pathological morphological features can be observed. Currently, the treatment is mainly surgical resection, and interferons may be used as adjuvant chemotherapy

Ecological-health risks assessment and characteristic pollutants identification of heavy metals in the soils of a coking plant in production in Guangxi, China

In response to the detailed investigation in the production enterprise by the Ministry of Ecology and Environment of the People's Republic of China, The investigation of soil pollution potential risk in a coking welfare plant in Liuzhou was carried out. Meanwhile, the key facilities and regions were identified. The monitoring factors in the soil of the plant were evaluated to judge the ecological risk and health risk caused by heavy metals (HMs) in the soil. At the same time, the application of ArcGIS was used for concentration interpolation analysis. The correlation analysis and principal component analysis of HMs in soil were applied to identify the characteristic pollutants. It was found that all HMs detected were probably the characteristic contaminant from the plant. The results showed that nickel (Ni) and arsenic (As) exceeded the screening values of the second class of using-land in standard GB36600-2018. It was found that Ni and As in the soil of the plant had different degrees of pollution. The hydrargyrum (Hg) was considered as high ecological hazards at all sites. The areas with high ecological hazard were close to the furnace ash storage area and its treatment area. Though within an acceptable range, it was found that As and Ni in the plant had a health risk to workers of the plant. The results of this study can provide experience and example for other enterprises with heavy metal pollution. This study applied the standard GB 36600-2018 promulgated in recent years to assess health risks from pollution soil, verifying the feasibility of the implementation of this standard in China. It also makes a contribution to encourage more environmental management and investigations in production enterprises of potential pollution hazards of land information in the world
