    Get PDF
Sustainability level is a new indicator of quality and efficiency for product life cycle. Sustainability should be balanced among Triple Bottom Line (TBL) aspects namely environmental, economic and social elements. For monitoring the sustainability of product, a comprehensive framework considering potential impacts for sustainability assessment should be developed. Previously, several studies presented frameworks to assess the sustainability level. However, few studies relate their frameworks with the potential impact of all TBL. Determination of potential impacts with its parameter is important during framework development. Potential impacts for environmental such global warming, acidification and eutrophication should be taken seriously. In this study, potential impacts for each sustainability aspects are shown. For the case study of hollow fiber membrane the potential impacts were obtained from primary and secondary data such product specification, bill of materials, literature reviews and help of GaBi Software

Advanced manufacturing technology systems have replaced traditional manufacturing systems as manufacturing industry have many technological developments in recent years. Now, the primarily concern is effectiveness of the equipment for the modern manufacturing technology systems. Though, there is a lack of empirical studies confirming this impact on business performance. Recently, manufacturing industries have adapted fit manufacturing strategies in order to enhance the system effectiveness to get competitive advantage. These strategies are mainly, lean, agile and sustainable manufacturing. This paper aims to systematically review the literature on the existing fit manufacturing strategies and their relationship with business performance from year 2009 to 2015, also to find the possible intervening variable that can influence the inconsistency of the relationships between the fit manufacturing strategies and business performance. On the basis of the findings from the systematic literature review, we suggest researchers on the in the field of operations management to investigate the mediating relationship of overall equipment effectiveness between the relationship of the fit manufacturing strategies and business performance

Construction performance and risk management has been widely discussed in the literature from various perspectives. The main objective of performing risk management in construction industry is to ensure timely delivery of good construction within sepecific budget. However, the failure of many construction projects in meeting deadlines, cost and quality targets is continuously on the rise and there are signs of accentuating year after year suffering significant financial losses of construciton works in Oman. Therefore, there is a need for empirical evidences to explain the relationship between risk management and project performance. This study applied quantitative methods to examine this relationship. Construciton companies from grade excellent to grade second in Oman haven included in the survey. The result revealed that practicing risk managementimprove the performance of construciton project significantly. Based on this result it is essential to hire qualified project managers who has sufficient knowledge in risk managmeent and its main activities

In order to move toward sustainability, organizations need an increasingly constructive transition on sustainable development to create synergies and develop new solutions that the development of human resource is required to make and it is considered as the first step in this path. This paper aims to help performance management for sustainable organizational transitions, with special emphasis upon green human resource management (GHRM) practices within organizations, in this case study, sports centre due to the structure, nature and attitude towards human resource as well as multiple effects at both macro and micro levels of the society. There are limited studies investigating what organizational members in the sports center perceive about a sustainable development and to be more exact, there are even far less previous studies that have addressed the issue of sustainability from the perspective of main human resources, as one of the most important stakeholders of organization. This study concentrates on GHRM that could assist with organizational sustainability through the alignment of the human resource management practices and its objective is to identify and classify of GHRM practices with exploratory factor analysis on a pilot study with 97 respondents from JDT football team members to place sustainability in this large public sports-intensive center in southern Malaysia. According to the research results the seven-factor model along with thirty two variables was identified with total variance 66.237% and for first factor was accounted 41.584%. The research findings provide a useful reference to sustainable development in JDT centre as well as for 'sports organizations' more broadly throughout Malaysia

Part of: Seliger, Günther (Ed.): Innovative solutions : proceedings / 11th Global Conference on Sustainable Manufacturing, Berlin, Germany, 23rd - 25th September, 2013. - Berlin: Universitätsverlag der TU Berlin, 2013. - ISBN 978-3-7983-2609-5 (online). - http://nbn-resolving.de/urn:nbn:de:kobv:83-opus4-40276. - pp. 187–193.Normally in Malaysia, vehicles are being used extensively regardless of its age or condition. This situation is not only in rural areas but exists in major cities. Vehicle manufacturers expected their vehicles to last in 15 years, hence vehicles exceeding this limit are considered as End-of-Life Vehicle (ELV). The extensive usage of ELV may lead to vehicle failure which threatens the safety of its user as well as other road users. ELV usage also contributes to environmental pollution. In order to overcome this, a framework for ELV management needs to be developed. Prior to that, a survey was done to study the current practice being applied in Malaysia. This paper also study the existing framework applied by other countries as adaptation for Malaysian ELV recycling implementation framework. This framework is expected to assist the government in drafting new ELV related policies

The aim of this study is to investigate the determinants of capital structure for Malaysian manufacturing companies. The studied subjects were 174 Malaysia manufacturing companies listed on Bursa Malaysia from year 2011 to year 2014. Firm fixed-effect with robust standard was used in data analysis to address the potential heterogeneity and endogeneity that arise from panel data. The analysis shows that firm profitability and non-debt tax shield are negatively related to firm leverage. On the other hand, several corporate governance mechanisms, namely, ownership concentration, separation of CEO-chairs, board independence, are not related to firm leverage. Liquidity, firm size and asset structure are also not related to firm leverage of manufacturing firms
