Operational Space Control for Planar PAN–1 Underactuated Manipulators Using Orthogonal Projection and Quadratic Programming
In this paper, we propose an operational space control formulation for a planar N-link underactuated manipulator (PA N–1 ) 1 with a passive first joint subject to actuator constraints (N ⩾ 3), covering both stabilization and tracking tasks. Such underactuated manipulators have an inherent first-order nonholonomic constraint, allowing us to project their dynamics to a space consistent with the nonholonomic constraint. Based on the constrained dynamics, we can design operational space controllers with respect to tasks assuming that all joints of the manipulator are active. Due to underactuation, we design a Quadratic Programming (QP) based controller to minimize the error between the desired torque commands and available motor torques in the null space of the constraint, as well as involve the constraint of motor outputs. The proposed control framework was demonstrated by stabilization and tracking tasks in simulations with both planar PA 2 and PA 3 manipulators. Furthermore, we verified the controller experimentally using a planar PA 2 robot
Efficacy and safety of traditional Chinese medicine decoction as an adjuvant treatment for diabetic nephropathy: a systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials
Objective: This study aimed to assess the efficacy and safety of traditional Chinese medicine decoction as an adjunctive treatment for diabetic nephropathy in systematic evaluations. Methods: A comprehensive search was conducted in PubMed, Web of Science, Cochrane Library, Embase, China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI), and Wanfang databases, covering the period from January 2013 to July 2023. The search was restricted to randomized controlled trials (RCTs) conducted within the past decade that investigated the use of TCM decoction as an adjunctive treatment for diabetic nephropathy. The control group received western medicine treatment, while the intervention group received TCM decoction in addition to the conventional treatment. Endnote and Excel were employed for literature management and data organization, and Revman 5.3 and Stata 16 software were used for the analyses. Results: 66 RCTs involving 6,951 participants were included in this study. The clinical efficacy of TCM decoction as an adjunctive treatment for diabetic nephropathy was found to be significantly higher than that of the control group (OR = 3.12, 95% CI [2.70, 3.60], I2 = 0%, p < 0.00001). The incidence of adverse events did not differ significantly between the intervention group and the control group (OR = 0.94, 95% CI [0.60, 1.48], I2 = 0%, p = 0.94). According to the secondary outcomes of renal function and blood glucose indicators, the intervention group showed better therapeutic efficacy compared to the control group. The most frequently used TCM categories were tonifying medicine, blood-activating medicine, astringent medicine, diuretic medicine, heat-clearing medicine, and laxative medicine. Among them, the top five frequently used Chinese medicine were Astragalus mongholicus Bunge [Fabaceae; Astragali mongholici radix](58 times), Salvia miltiorrhiza Bunge [Lamiaceae; Radix et rhizoma salviae miltiorrhizae] (42 times), Dioscorea oppositifolia L. [Dioscoreaceae; Dioscoreae rhizoma] (38 times), Poria cocos (Schw.) Wolf [Polyporaceae; Poria] (38 times), and Cornus officinalis Siebold & Zucc. [Cornaceae; Corni fructus] (35 times). Conclusion: The combined use of TCM decoction with western medicine in the treatment of diabetic nephropathy can enhance clinical effectiveness and 2 This is a provisional file, not the final typeset article achieve superior therapeutic effects in comparison to western medicine alone, without significant risks.Systematic Review Registration:https://www.crd.york.ac.uk/PROSPERO/#recordDetails, identifier [CRD42022529144]
Minimal information for studies of extracellular vesicles (MISEV2023): From basic to advanced approaches
Extracellular vesicles (EVs), through their complex cargo, can reflect the state of their cell of origin and change the functions and phenotypes of other cells. These features indicate strong biomarker and therapeutic potential and have generated broad interest, as evidenced by the steady year-on-year increase in the numbers of scientific publications about EVs. Important advances have been made in EV metrology and in understanding and applying EV biology. However, hurdles remain to realising the potential of EVs in domains ranging from basic biology to clinical applications due to challenges in EV nomenclature, separation from non-vesicular extracellular particles, characterisation and functional studies. To address the challenges and opportunities in this rapidly evolving field, the International Society for Extracellular Vesicles (ISEV) updates its 'Minimal Information for Studies of Extracellular Vesicles', which was first published in 2014 and then in 2018 as MISEV2014 and MISEV2018, respectively. The goal of the current document, MISEV2023, is to provide researchers with an updated snapshot of available approaches and their advantages and limitations for production, separation and characterisation of EVs from multiple sources, including cell culture, body fluids and solid tissues. In addition to presenting the latest state of the art in basic principles of EV research, this document also covers advanced techniques and approaches that are currently expanding the boundaries of the field. MISEV2023 also includes new sections on EV release and uptake and a brief discussion of in vivo approaches to study EVs. Compiling feedback from ISEV expert task forces and more than 1000 researchers, this document conveys the current state of EV research to facilitate robust scientific discoveries and move the field forward even more rapidly
The decoupling relationship between China’s economic growth and carbon emissions from the perspective of industrial structure
ABSTRACT: This study analyses the decoupling relationship between energy-related CO2 emissions and economic growth in China from 2000-2017 from the perspective of industrial structure using the LMDI method and Tapio decoupling model. The decoupling driving force was decomposed into emission, energy intensity, industrial structure, economic activity, and population factors. Studies have shown that the restructuring of China’s industries has not led to a significant increase in CO2 emissions. Specifically, from 2000 to 2017, China’s economic development and carbon emissions are generally in a weak decoupling state. Strong decoupling occurred from 2000 to 2001 and from 2013 to 2016. The industrial structure change has a substantial impact on the primary sector (agriculture), followed by the tertiary sector (services), while the impact on the secondary sector (industry) is negligible. The GDP contribution of the primary industry is small, but it is an indispensable guarantee for a country. With the development of agricultural mechanization and technology, human and animal power in this industry has been decreasing year by year, and large-scale planting has improved energy efficiency. The level of technology should be continuously strengthened to promote the decoupling of carbon emissions. The contribution of the secondary industry to GDP is around 40%, but the secondary industry accounts for more than 80% of CO2 emissions, mainly caused by the use of fossil energy. In 2017, fossil energy still accounted for about 86.2% of China’s energy consumption, so fossil energy remains the most critical energy source for China’s economic development. Coal, in turn, accounts for the largest share of fossil energy consumption. Therefore, emphasis should be placed on increasing technological innovation and conversion from fossil to non-fossil energy sources. The Chinese government considers the service industry a new engine for sustainable social and economic development. The contribution of the tertiary sector to GDP has increased from 2000 to 2017, followed by resource and environmental problems. Although the current share of CO2 emissions directly caused by the tertiary sector is not high, as the tertiary sector continues to grow, plans to reduce the decoupling of carbon emissions from the tertiary sector should be made in advance
Rheological, mechanical, and abrasion characteristics of polymer-modified cement mortar and concrete
The settlement of fresh concrete or improper operation during construction usually makes the water to cement (w/c) ratio of the cement mortar on the concrete pavement surface higher than designed, which may influence the abrasion resistance of concrete pavement. This study firstly tried to establish relationships between abrasion of hardened cement mortar and rheological characteristics of fresh cement mortar in the laboratory. Secondly, a polymer-modified cement mortar was developed with carboxyl styrene butadiene rubber latex added to the cement mortar. Its rheological properties in mixing, mechanical properties, and abrasion were investigated. It is found that the polymer-modified cement mortar has a much better abrasion resistance and flexural strength while lower compressive strength than cement mortar. A stronger correlation was observed between flexural strength rather than compressive strength and abrasion resistance of cement mortar. The proposed polymer-modified concrete also exhibited good abrasion resistance. The accepted manuscript in pdf format is listed with the files at the bottom of this page. Room-temperature unidirectional routing of valley excitons of monolayer WSe2 via plasmonic near-field interference in symmetric nano-slits
Due to the short valley polarization time, it is hardly to separate opposite valley pseudospin of transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDs) for their practical applications in valleytronics. Coupling TMDs to unidirectional surface plasmon polariton (SPP) can overcome this obstacle. However, it is required to break the symmetry to induce the asymmetric coupling between valley exciton dipole and SPP to route valley exciton in previously proposed strategies. Herein, by utilizing a new mechanism that near-field interference can create directional SPP in symmetric nanostructures, we realize directional routing of valley exciton emission of monolayer WSe2 at room temperature with a symmetric nano-slits array. The near-field interference enabled directional SPP in our device not only render the exciton diffusion length increase from 0.9 to 3.0 μm, but also lead to a valley exciton separation length of 0.7 μm with degree of valley polarization up to 22 %. This valley excitons separation is attributed to the non-flat WSe2 in the nano-slits region, which makes the exciton dipoles present in-plane and out-of-plane simultaneously. Our work provides a convenient and promising strategy towards room temperature on-chip integrated valleytronic devices
