Status, Trends, and Prospects of the Channel Catfish Industry in China and the impact of the Covid-19 epidemic
In 1984, the Fisheries Research Institute of Hubei Province first introduced channel catfish from the US to China. Since then, the production of China's channel catfish has undergone volatile changes. In 2003, as a substitute for Pangasius fillets from Vietnam, the export volume of channel catfish-processed products increased considerably. In recent years, the Chinese channel catfish industry has shifted from dependence on American and European markets to dominance in Chinese markets. It is expected that the continuing impact of the Covid-19 epidemic in China and the development of the global pandemic will significantly affect the channel catfish farming sector in China. This paper outlines China's channel catfish industry's development, markets, costs, and benefits and provides some suggestions for its development
Determination of Dark Matter Halo Mass from Dynamics of Satellite Galaxies
We show that the mass of a dark matter halo can be inferred from the
dynamical status of its satellite galaxies. Using 9 dark-matter simulations of
halos like the Milky Way (MW), we find that the present-day substructures in
each halo follow a characteristic distribution in the phase space of orbital
binding energy and angular momentum, and that this distribution is similar from
halo to halo but has an intrinsic dependence on the halo formation history. We
construct this distribution directly from the simulations for a specific halo
and extend the result to halos of similar formation history but different
masses by scaling. The mass of an observed halo can then be estimated by
maximizing the likelihood in comparing the measured kinematic parameters of its
satellite galaxies with these distributions. We test the validity and accuracy
of this method with mock samples taken from the simulations. Using the
positions, radial velocities, and proper motions of 9 tracers and assuming
observational uncertainties comparable to those of MW satellite galaxies, we
find that the halo mass can be recovered to within 40%. The accuracy can
be improved to within 25% if 30 tracers are used. However, the dependence
of the phase-space distribution on the halo formation history sets a minimum
uncertainty of 20% that cannot be reduced by using more tracers. We
believe that this minimum uncertainty also applies to any mass determination
for a halo when the phase space information of other kinematic tracers is used.Comment: Accepted for publication in ApJ, 18 pages, 13 figure
Thermoelectric performance of P-type Bi85Sb15-xSnx alloys prepared by mechanical alloying and pressureless sintering at low temperatures
AbstractIn the present study, the Bi85Sb15-xSnx (x=0, 1, 2, 3) thermoelectric materials have been fabricated through mechanical alloying followed by pressureless sintering. The phase composition and the microstructure were investigated by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) analysis. Electrical conductivity, Seebeck coefficient and thermal conductivity were measured in the temperature range of 77∼300K. The electrical conductivity was characterized by using four-probe method. The Seebeck coefficient was determined from measured temperature and electric potential difference between the two ends of the bar-shape specimen. The thermal conductivity was measured by means of a heat and sink steady state method. Then the power factor and ZT were calculated according to the measurement values. The results showed that the Sn-doped samples changed from n-type to p-type at low temperature. A maximum power factor of 1.67 ×10-3W/mK2 and a minimum thermal conductivity of 1.8W/mK were obtained. The optimum ZT value of 0.15 was obtained at 300K
Sequential Recommendation with Diffusion Models
Generative models, such as Variational Auto-Encoder (VAE) and Generative
Adversarial Network (GAN), have been successfully applied in sequential
recommendation. These methods require sampling from probability distributions
and adopt auxiliary loss functions to optimize the model, which can capture the
uncertainty of user behaviors and alleviate exposure bias. However, existing
generative models still suffer from the posterior collapse problem or the model
collapse problem, thus limiting their applications in sequential
recommendation. To tackle the challenges mentioned above, we leverage a new
paradigm of the generative models, i.e., diffusion models, and present
sequential recommendation with diffusion models (DiffRec), which can avoid the
issues of VAE- and GAN-based models and show better performance. While
diffusion models are originally proposed to process continuous image data, we
design an additional transition in the forward process together with a
transition in the reverse process to enable the processing of the discrete
recommendation data. We also design a different noising strategy that only
noises the target item instead of the whole sequence, which is more suitable
for sequential recommendation. Based on the modified diffusion process, we
derive the objective function of our framework using a simplification technique
and design a denoise sequential recommender to fulfill the objective function.
As the lengthened diffusion steps substantially increase the time complexity,
we propose an efficient training strategy and an efficient inference strategy
to reduce training and inference cost and improve recommendation diversity.
Extensive experiment results on three public benchmark datasets verify the
effectiveness of our approach and show that DiffRec outperforms the
state-of-the-art sequential recommendation models
Alternate Diverse Teaching for Semi-supervised Medical Image Segmentation
Semi-supervised medical image segmentation studies have shown promise in
training models with limited labeled data. However, current dominant
teacher-student based approaches can suffer from the confirmation bias. To
address this challenge, we propose AD-MT, an alternate diverse teaching
approach in a teacher-student framework. It involves a single student model and
two non-trainable teacher models that are momentum-updated periodically and
randomly in an alternate fashion. To mitigate the confirmation bias from the
diverse supervision, the core of AD-MT lies in two proposed modules: the Random
Periodic Alternate (RPA) Updating Module and the Conflict-Combating Module
(CCM). The RPA schedules the alternating diverse updating process with
complementary data batches, distinct data augmentation, and random switching
periods to encourage diverse reasoning from different teaching perspectives.
The CCM employs an entropy-based ensembling strategy to encourage the model to
learn from both the consistent and conflicting predictions between the
teachers. Experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness and superiority of
our AD-MT on the 2D and 3D medical segmentation benchmarks across various
semi-supervised settings.Comment: code:https://github.com/ZhenZHAO/AD-M
Reference Gene Selection for Transcriptional Profiling in \u3cem\u3eCryptocercus punctulatus\u3c/em\u3e, an Evolutionary Link between Isoptera and Blattodea
The subsocial life style and wood-feeding capability of Cryptocercus gives us an evolutionary key to unlock some outstanding questions in biology. With the advent of the Genomics Era, there is an unprecedented opportunity to address the evolution of eusociality and the acquisition of lignocellulases at the genetic level. However, to quantify gene expression, an appropriate normalization strategy is warranted to control for the non-specific variations among samples across different experimental conditions. To search for the internal references, 10 housekeeping genes from a gut transcriptome of a wood-feeding cockroach, Cryptocercus punctulatus, were selected as the candidates for the RT-qPCR analysis. The expression profiles of these candidates, including ACT, EF1α, GAPDH, HSP60, HSP70, αTUB, UBC, RPS18, ATPase and GST, were analyzed using a panel of analytical tools, including geNorm, NormFinder, BestKeeper, and comparative ΔCT method. RefFinder, a comprehensive ranking system integrating all four above-mentioned algorithms, rated ACT as the most stable reference gene for different developmental stages and tissues. Expression analysis of the target genes, Hex-1 and Cell-1, using the most or the least appropriate reference genes and a single or multiple normalizers signified this research. Our finding is the first step toward establishing a standardized RT-qPCR analysis in Cryptocercus
A comparison of posterior lumbar interbody fusion and transforaminal lumbar interbody fusion: a literature review and meta-analysis
BACKGROUND: We compared the perioperative results and complications associated with PLIF and TLIF, and collected evidence for choosing the better fusion method. METHODS: A literature survey of the MEDLINE and EMBASE databases identified 7 comparative observational studies that met our inclusion criteria. Checklists by Cowley were used to evaluate the risk of bias of the included studies. A database including patient demographic information, perioperative results, and complications was established. The summary odds ratio and weighed mean difference with 95% confidence interval were calculated with a random-effects model. RESULTS: We found that PLIF had a higher complication rate (P <0.00001), and TLIF reduced the rate of durotomy (P = 0.01). No statistical difference was found between the two groups with regard to clinical satisfaction (P = 0.54), blood loss (P = 0.14), vertebral root injury (P = 0.08), graft malposition (P = 0.06), infection (P = 0.36), or rate of radiographic fusion (P = 0.27). The evidence indicated that PLIF required longer operative time (P = 0.03). CONCLUSIONS: The evidence indicated that TLIF could reduce the complication rate and durotomy. Neither TLIP nor PLIF was found superior in terms of clinical satisfaction or radiographic fusion rate. PLIF might result in longer time in surgery.
