Comment on "Magnetoviscosity and relaxation in ferrofluids"

It is shown and discussed how the conventional system of hydrodynamic equations for ferrofluids was derived. The set consists of the equation of fluid motion, the Maxwell equations, and the magnetization equation. The latter was recently revised by Felderhof [Phys. Rev. E, v.62, p.3848 (2000)]. His phenomenological magnetization equation looks rather like corresponding Shliomis' equation, but leads to wrong consequences for the dependence of ferrofluid viscosity and magnetization relaxation time on magnetic field.Comment: 6 pages, 1 figure, Submitted to Phys. Peculiarities of the stochastic motion in antiferromagnetic nanoparticles

Antiferromagnetic (AFM) materials are widely used in spintronic devices as passive elements (for stabilization of ferromangetic layers) and as active elements (for information coding). In both cases switching between the different AFM states depends in a great extent from the environmental noise. In the present paper we derive the stochastic Langevin equations for an AFM vector and corresponding Fokker-Planck equation for distribution function in the phase space of generalised coordinate and momentum. Thermal noise is modeled by a random delta-correlated magnetic field that interacts with the dynamic magnetisation of AFM particle. We analyse in details a particular case of the collinear compensated AFM in the presence of spin-polarised current. The energy distribution function for normal modes in the vicinity of two equilibrium states (static and stationary) in sub- and super-critical regimes is found. It is shown that the noise-induced dynamics of AFM vector has pecuilarities compared to that of magnetisation vector in ferromagnets.Comment: Submitted to EPJ ST, presented at the 4-th Conference on Statistical Physics, Lviv, Ukraine, 201

Nanoparticles in oxide glasses: Magnetic resonance studies

    No full text
We overview the application of the electron magnetic resonance spectroscopy assisted with computer simulations to a new phenomenon observed in annealed iron-containing glasses, viz. the superparamagnetic resonance arising from magnetically ordered nanoparticles. The characteristics of the nanoparticle size and shape distribution in glass are obtained by numerical simulation of the resonance spectra. This phenomenon provides a basis of a novel method of morphological analysis of the magnetic nanoparticles

Relaxation dynamics in suspensions of ferromagnetic particles

We have studied the relaxation dynamics of a dilute assembly of ferromagnetic particles in suspension. A formalism based on the Smoluchowski equation, describing the evolution of the probability density for the directions of the magnetic moment and of the axis of easy magnetization of the particles, has been developed. We compute the rotational viscosity from a Green-Kubo formula and give an expression for the relaxation time of the particles which comes from the dynamic equations of the correlation functions. Concerning the relaxation time for the particles, our results agree quite well with experiments performed on different samples of ferromagnetic particles for which the magnetic energy, associated with the interaction between the magnetic moments and the external field, or the energy of anisotropy plays a dominant role
