Two-dimensional nonlinear vector states in Bose-Einstein condensates

Two-dimensional (2D) vector matter waves in the form of soliton-vortex and vortex-vortex pairs are investigated for the case of attractive intracomponent interaction in two-component Bose-Einstein condensates. Both attractive and repulsive intercomponent interactions are considered. By means of a linear stability analysis we show that soliton-vortex pairs can be stable in some regions of parameters while vortex-vortex pairs turn out to be always unstable. The results are confirmed by direct numerical simulations of the 2D coupled Gross-Pitaevskii equations.Comment: 6 pages, 9 figure

Bright vector solitons in cross-defocusing nonlinear media

We study two-dimensional soliton-soliton vector pairs in media with self-focusing nonlinearities and defocing cross-interactions. The general properties of the stationary states and their stability are investigated. The different scenarios of instability are observed using numerical simulations. The quasi-stable propagation regime of the high-power vector solitons is revealed.Comment: 6 pages, 7 figure

PECULIARITIES OF NEPHROPROTECTIVE EFFECT OF SULODEXIDE IN PATIENTS WITH DIABETIC NEPHROPATHY

Introduction. Monocyte chemoattractant protein type 1 (MCP-1) and plasminogen activator inhibitor type 1 (PAI-1) play a key role in inflammation, fibrosis and progression of renal dysfunction. Sulodexide advantages in vascular pathology treatment were proved by clinical trials, however, its efficiency in diabetic nephropathy (DN) was investigated insufficiently. The aim of the present work – to study the influence of sulodexide on clinical and laboratory parametres, MCP-1 and PAI-1 levels in blood plasma of patients with DN. Materials and methods. 76 type 2 diabetic patients with different stages of DN were observed. 44 patients received basic therapy with anti-diabetic drugs and ACE- inhibitors, 32 patients in addition to basic therapy were treated with sulodexide in a daily dose 600 LU. Concentrations of MCP-1 and PAI-1 in blood plasma were determined using immunoassay kits. Results. In patients with DN when compared with healthy controls MCP-1 and RAI-1 levels in blood plasma significantly increased already at initial stages of the disease. Such changes may promote a development of inflammatory and fibrotic processes in kidneys. Progression of the disease was accompanied by more essential growth of MCP-1 and RAI-1 in DN patients with expressed clinical manifestations of kidney injury. Sulodexide treatment in patients with DN resulted in essential decrease of inflammatory and fibrotic markers and had positive effect on urinary protein excretion. Conclusions. Glicosaminoglycans, in particular, sulodexide, is effective in complex treatment of patients with DN

Optical tweezers for vortex rings in Bose-Einstein condensates

We study generation and stabilization of vortex rings in atomic Bose-Einstein condensates. We suggest an approach for generating vortex rings by optical tweezers - two blue-detuned optical beams forming a toroidal void in a magnetically or optically conf

New limit on the mass of 9.4-keV solar axions emitted in an M1 transition in 83^{83}Kr nuclei

A search for resonant absorption of the solar axion by 83Kr^{83}\rm{Kr} nuclei was performed using the proportional counter installed inside the low-background setup at the Baksan Neutrino Observatory. The obtained model independent upper limit on the combination of isoscalar and isovector axion-nucleon couplings ∣g3−g0∣≤1.69×10−6|g_3-g_0|\leq 1.69\times 10^{-6} allowed us to set the new upper limit on the hadronic axion mass of mA≤130m_{A}\leq 130 eV (95\% C.L.) with the generally accepted values SS=0.5 and zz=0.56.Comment: 5 pages, 2 figures, Proceedings of the 10th Patras Workshop on Axions, WIMPs and WISP 29 June - 4 July 2014, CERN, Geneva, Switzerlan
