Increasing and decreasing entanglement characteristics for continuous variables by a local photon subtraction
We investigate how the entanglement characteristics of a non-Gaussian
entangled state are increased or decreased by a local photon subtraction
operation. The non-Gaussian entangled state is generated by injecting a
single-mode non-Gaussian state and a vacuum state into a 50:50 beam splitter.
We consider a photon-added coherent state and an odd coherent state as a
single-mode non-Gaussian state. In the regime of small amplitude, we show that
the performance of quantum teleportation and the second-order
Einstein-Podolsky- Rosen-type correlation can both be enhanced, whereas the
degree of entanglement decreases, for the output state when a local photon
subtraction operation is applied to the non-Gaussian entangled state. The
counterintuitive effect is more prominent in the limit of nearly zero
amplitude.Comment: Published version, 7 pages, 3 figure
Genome sequence of the chromate-resistant bacterium Leucobacter salsicius type strain M1-8T
Leucobacter salsicius M1-8(T) is a member of the Microbacteriaceae family within the class Actinomycetales. This strain is a Gram-positive, rod-shaped bacterium and was previously isolated from a Korean fermented food. Most members of the genus Leucobacter are chromate-resistant and this feature could be exploited in biotechnological applications. However, the genus Leucobacter is poorly characterized at the genome level, despite its potential importance. Thus, the present study determined the features of Leucobacter salsicius M1-8(T), as well as its genome sequence and annotation. The genome comprised 3,185,418 bp with a G+C content of 64.5%, which included 2,865 protein-coding genes and 68 RNA genes. This strain possessed two predicted genes associated with chromate resistance, which might facilitate its growth in heavy metal-rich environments.
Creep and Oxidation Behaviors of Alloy 617 in Air and Helium Environments at 1173K
AbstractCreep and oxidation behaviours of Alloy 617 in air and helium (He) environments at 1173K were comparatively investigated under different applied stress levels. There were no large differences in the shapes of the creep curves between the air and He environments. Creep rupture time in the He environment was shorter than that in air. The outer Cr-oxide thickness of the air specimens was thicker in short-tested duration than that of the He specimens. However, in the long- tested duration over 3,000h, the Cr-oxide thickness in the He environment was larger than in air. It was found that creep rupture life was closely related to the thickness of the outer Cr-oxide layer, because the form of the outer Cr-rich oxide layer brings about the Cr-depleted region which may deteriorate material strength or creep life
MitoVariome: a variome database of human mitochondrial DNA
Background: Mitochondrial sequence variation provides critical information for studying human evolution and variation. Mitochondrial DNA provides information on the origin of humans, and plays a substantial role in forensics, degenerative diseases, cancers, and aging process. Typically, human mitochondrial DNA has various features such as HVSI, HVSII, single-nucleotide polymorphism (SNP), restriction enzyme sites, and short tandem repeat (STR). Results: We present a variome database (MitoVariome) of human mitochondrial DNA sequences. Queries against MitoVariome can be made using accession numbers or haplogroup/continent. Query results are presented not only in text but also in HTML tables to report extensive mitochondrial sequence variation information. The variation information includes repeat pattern, restriction enzyme site polymorphism, short tandem repeat, disease information as well as single nucleotide polymorphism. It also provides a graphical interface as Gbrowse displaying all variations at a glance. The web interface also provides the tool for assigning haplogroup based on the haplogroup-diagnostic system with complete human mitochondrial SNP position list and for retrieving sequences that users query against by using accession numbers. Conclusion: MitoVariome is a freely accessible web application and database that enables human mitochondrial genome researchers to study genetic variation in mitochondrial genome with textual and graphical views accompanied by assignment function of haplogrouping if users submit their own data. Hence, the MitoVariome containing many kinds of variation features in the human mitochondrial genome will be useful for understanding mitochondrial variations of each individual, haplogroup, or geographical location to elucidate the history of human evolutionclose81

Nasal Hemangiopericytoma Causing Oncogenic Osteomalacia
Oncogenic osteomalacia is a rare cause that makes abnormalities of bone metabolism. Our case arose in a 47-year-old woman presenting a nasal mass associated with osteomalacia. We excised the mass carefully. After surgery, it was diagnosed as hemangiopericytoma and her symptoms related with osteomalacia were relieved and biochemical abnormalities were restored to normal range. We report and review a rare case of nasal hemangiopericytoma that caused osteomalacia
Efficacy evaluation of combination vaccine of recombinant C-terminal fragments of ApxIA, ApxIIA and ApxIIIA in piglets
The efficacy of the combination vaccine of the individual C-terminal fragments of ApxIA, ApxIIA and ApxIIIA of Actinobacillus pleuropneumoniae (APP) was evaluated in piglets. Twenty piglets were divided equally into 2 groups (n=10). All piglets were intramuscularly primed at 4 week-of-age (0 week post prime inoculation (WPPI)) and were intramuscularly boosted at 6 week-of-age (2 WPPI). Group A piglets were inoculated with sterile PBS and group B piglets were inoculated with the combination vaccine. Concentrations of each of the C-terminal fragment-specific IgG as determined by ELISA were significantly higher in group B than in group A from 2 WPPI until the end of this study. Clinical signs were observed from only 10% of group B piglets after the challenge with the mixture of APP serotypes 1, 2 and 5 at 4 WPPI, while 50% of group A piglets were protected against APP infections. Overall, intramuscular inoculation with the vaccine candidate can efficiently protect piglets against APP infection
