Measurement of decays to baryon pairs
A sample of 3.95M decays registered in the BES detector are used
to study final states containing pairs of octet and decuplet baryons. We report
branching fractions for , ,

are compared to expectations based on the SU(3)-flavor symmetry, factorization,
and perturbative QCD.Comment: 22 pages, 21 figures, 4 table
First Measurement of the Branching Fraction of the Decay psi(2S) --> tau tau
The branching fraction of the psi(2S) decay into tau pair has been measured
for the first time using the BES detector at the Beijing Electron-Positron
Collider. The result is ,
where the first error is statistical and the second is systematic. This value,
along with those for the branching fractions into e+e- and mu+mu of this
resonance, satisfy well the relation predicted by the sequential lepton
hypothesis. Combining all these values with the leptonic width of the resonance
the total width of the psi(2S) is determined to be keV.Comment: 9 pages, 2 figure

Hierarchical urchin-shaped alpha-MnO2 on graphene-coated carbon microfibers: a binder-free electrode for rechargeable aqueous Na-air battery
With the increasing demand of cost-effective and high-energy devices, sodium-air (Na-air) batteries have attracted immense interest due to the natural abundance of sodium in contrast to lithium. In particular, an aqueous Na-air battery has fundamental advantage over non-aqueous batteries due to the formation of highly water-soluble discharge product, which improve the overall performance of the system in terms of energy density, cyclic stability and round-trip efficiency. Despite these advantages, the rechargeability of aqueous Na-air batteries has not yet been demonstrated when using non-precious metal catalysts. In this work, we rationally synthesized a binder-free and robust electrode by directly growing urchin-shaped MnO2 nanowires on porous reduced graphene oxide-coated carbon microfiber (MGC) mats and fabricated an aqueous Na-air cell using the MGC as an air electrode to demonstrate the rechargeability of an aqueous Na-air battery. The fabricated aqueous Na-air cell exhibited excellent rechargeability and rate capability with a low overpotential gap (0.7 V) and high round-trip efficiency (81%). We believe that our approach opens a new avenue for synthesizing robust and binder-free electrodes that can be utilized to build not only metal-air batteries but also other energy systems such as supercapacitors, metal-ion batteries and fuel cells.ope
Single-cell RNA-seq reveals fate determination control of an individual fiber cell initiation in cotton (Gossypium hirsutum)
Cotton fiber is a unicellular seed trichome, and lint fiber initials per seed as a factor determines fiber yield. However, the mechanisms controlling fiber initiation from ovule epidermis are not understood well enough. Here, with single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-seq), a total of 14,535 cells were identified from cotton ovule outer integument of Xu142_LF line at four developmental stages (1.5, 1, 0.5βdays before anthesis and the day of anthesis). Three major cell types, fiber, non-fiber epidermis and outer pigment layer were identified and then verified by RNA in situ hybridization. A comparative analysis on scRNA-seq data between Xu142 and its fiberless mutant Xu142 fl further confirmed fiber cluster definition. The developmental trajectory of fiber cell was reconstructed, and fiber cell was identified differentiated at 1 day before anthesis. Gene regulatory networks at four stages revealed the spatiotemporal pattern of core transcription factors, and MYB25-like and HOX3 were demonstrated played key roles as commanders in fiber differentiation and tip-biased diffuse growth, respectively. A model for early development of a single fiber cell was proposed here, which sheds light on further deciphering mechanism of plant trichome and the improvement of cotton fiber yield

Superconductivity above 200 K Observed in Superhydrides of Calcium
Searching for superconductivity with Tc near room temperature is of great
interest both for fundamental science & many potential applications. Here we
report the experimental discovery of superconductivity with maximum critical
temperature (Tc) above 210 K in calcium superhydrides, the new alkali earth
hydrides experimentally showing superconductivity above 200 K in addition to
sulfur hydride & rare-earth hydride system. The materials are synthesized at
the synergetic conditions of 160~190 GPa and ~2000 K using diamond anvil cell
combined with in-situ laser heating technique. The superconductivity was
studied through in-situ high pressure electric conductance measurements in an
applied magnetic field for the sample quenched from high temperature while
maintained at high pressures. The upper critical field Hc(0) was estimated to
be ~268 T while the GL coherent length is ~11 angstrom. The in-situ synchrotron
X-ray diffraction measurements suggest that the synthesized calcium hydrides
are primarily composed of CaH6 while there may also exist other calcium
hydrides with different hydrogen contents
Measurement of the Inclusive Charm Cross Section at 4.03 GeV and 4.14 GeV
The cross section for charmed meson production at and 4.14
GeV has been measured with the Beijing Spectrometer. The measurement was made
using 22.3 of data collected at 4.03 GeV and 1.5
of data collected at 4.14 GeV. Inclusive observed cross sections for
the production of charged and neutral D mesons and momentum spectra are
presented. Observed cross sections were radiatively corrected to obtain tree
level cross sections. Measurements of the total hadronic cross section are
obtained from the charmed meson cross section and an extrapolation of results
from below the charm threshold.Comment: 11 pages, 13 figures. The top level tex file is paper.tex. It builds

A Unified Approach to the Classical Statistical Analysis of Small Signals
We give a classical confidence belt construction which unifies the treatment
of upper confidence limits for null results and two-sided confidence intervals
for non-null results. The unified treatment solves a problem (apparently not
previously recognized) that the choice of upper limit or two-sided intervals
leads to intervals which are not confidence intervals if the choice is based on
the data. We apply the construction to two related problems which have recently
been a battle-ground between classical and Bayesian statistics: Poisson
processes with background, and Gaussian errors with a bounded physical region.
In contrast with the usual classical construction for upper limits, our
construction avoids unphysical confidence intervals. In contrast with some
popular Bayesian intervals, our intervals eliminate conservatism (frequentist
coverage greater than the stated confidence) in the Gaussian case and reduce it
to a level dictated by discreteness in the Poisson case. We generalize the
method in order to apply it to analysis of experiments searching for neutrino
oscillations. We show that this technique both gives correct coverage and is
powerful, while other classical techniques that have been used by neutrino
oscillation search experiments fail one or both of these criteria.Comment: 40 pages, 15 figures. Changes 15-Dec-99 to agree more closely with
published version. A few small changes, plus the two substantive changes we
made in proof back in 1998: 1) The definition of "sensitivity" in Sec. V(C).
It was inconsistent with our actual definition in Sec. VI. 2) "Note added in
proof" at end of the Conclusio
