    "International and Intergenerational Aspects of Capital Income Taxation in an Endogenously Growing World Economy"

    This paper discusses how capital income taxation affects economic growth and welfare in an endogenously growing world economy with perfect capital mobility and worldwide externalities. Worldwide ex-ternalities provide a mechanism for equalizing national growth rates even with different capital income tax rates. The welfare of future generations is more influenced by a change in the growth rate than by the international spillover effect which has been the primary concern of the previous studies. Moreover, our model finds intergenerational conflicts arising from the change in the growth rate caused by a change in the source tax rate of the foreign country.

    Acupuncture as a Therapy for Headache

    Acupuncture has been used to treat various diseases, and there are many reports from various countries around the world as a therapy for headaches. Acupuncture has been used to relieve tension‐type headaches and prevent migraine attacks. In patients with migraine without aura, the number of headache attacks and analgesic use among patients who received acupuncture was significantly decreased compared to those who were treated with flunarizine. However, few articles have classified headaches in detail and examined the effectiveness of acupuncture. Thus, there is no clear evidence of the types of headache for which acupuncture is effective or whether acupuncture should be performed in the attack phase or intermittent phase. Functional MRI (fMRI) is a form of objective imaging study. Recently, a study was performed to investigate brain dysfunction in patients with migraine and chronic tension‐type headache. In the study of the pain‐induced activation of fMRI, migraine patients demonstrated specific brain activation in the interictal period compared to controls. We hypothesize that acupuncture affects not only peripheral circulation, but also central nervous function. However, few scientific studies have investigated the effects of acupuncture for headache by assessing cerebral function

    Black Hole Perturbation

    We present analytic calculations of gravitational waves from a particle orbiting a black hole. We first review the Teukolsky formalism for dealing with the gravitational perturbation of a black hole. Then we develop a systematic method to calculate higher order post-Newtonian corrections to the gravitational waves emitted by an orbiting particle. As applications of this method, we consider orbits that are nearly circular, including exactly circular ones, slightly eccentric ones and slightly inclined orbits off the equatorial plane of a Kerr black hole and give the energy flux and angular momentum flux formulas at infinity with higher order post-Newtonian corrections. Using a different method that makes use of an analytic series representation of the solution of the Teukolsky equation, we also give a post-Newtonian expanded formula for the energy flux absorbed by a Kerr black hole for a circular orbit.Comment: 120 pages ptptex file.     核医学検査による水頭症と低髄液圧症候群の評価を解説する。RI cisternographyは脳脊髄液の動態を直接に視覚評価できる画像診断方法であり、水頭症の病態の理解、手術適応の判断などに有用である。閉塞性水頭症では閉塞部位をRIが看過しない。交通性水頭症では脳室逆流と全体のクリアランスを評価する。正常では脳室内停滞と呼ばれ、治療が必要な水頭症の初見である。水頭症の脳血流SPECTでは脳梁近傍やシルビウス裂近傍に血流低下がみられ、高位円蓋部の前頭葉、頭頂葉などに血流上昇がみられ、それらはCAPPAH signと呼ばれ、正常圧水頭症に特徴的な初見とされている。脳髄硬膜外へ多発性に漏出し、早期に膀胱へ貯留するRI cisternography像はChristmas tree appearanceと呼ばれ、髄液漏の特徴的初見とされている。RI cisternographyは感度は良好であるが、解像度が低く、アーチファクトもあるため読影には習熟が必要で、定量評価や他の画像初見と組み合わせることが必要である

    ANALYSIS OF THE TRANSFORMATION OF THE VELOCITY OF THE CENTER OF GRAVITY IN RUNNING SINGLE LEG HORIZONTAL JUMP

    The purpose of this study was to analyze the transformation of the center of gravity (CG) in the running single leg horizontal jump and to investigate the influence of the forward rotation of the takeoff leg in achieving vertical CG velocity. The subjects were 98 male long jumpers, whose mean best official jump among their recorded trials was 7.16 ± 0.66 m. Their takeoff motion was videotaped with two high-speed cameras. Horizontal CG velocity at touchdown and vertical CG velocity at toe-off had significantly positive correlations with jumping distance; the decrease in horizontal CG velocity during the takeoff phase was significantly and negatively correlated with jumping distance. Forward rotation of the spring-mass model did not contribute to an increase in vertical CG velocity, although it did contribute to an increase in horizontal CG velocity just before toe-off

    Multiplex PCR: use of heat-stable Thermus thermophilus RecA protein to minimize non-specific PCR products

    In this paper we report that the inclusion of heat-resistant RecA protein from a thermophilic bacteria, Thermus thermophilus, and its cofactor (ATP) in PCR effectively eliminates non-specific PCR products. The effect of RecA protein, which catalyzes pairing between homologous DNA molecules with great fidelity in genetic recombination, is due to its promotion of precise priming in PCR (i.e. priming at sites where the primer sequence is completely complementary to that of the target sequence). In addition, the RecA protein substantially reduces the primer concentration required for PCR. These experimental results have led to the realization of multiplex PCR, which involves PCR for multiple sites in the same reaction mixture. We were able to successfully perform multiplex PCR with over a dozen reactions without affecting the amplification pattern of the PCR products

    Immunoreactivity profiling of Anti-Chinese hamster ovarian host cell protein antibodies by isobaric labeled affinity purification-mass spectrometry reveals low-recovery proteins

    We evaluated the immunoreactivity profiles of eight commercial anti-host cell protein (anti-HCP) antibodies from different host animals and their antigens used for immunization by an isobaric labeled affinity purification-mass spectrometry (AP-MS) method. As a result, 34 proteins with high abundance but low recovery from harvest cell culture fluid were identified. Since they are likely to be underestimated in biopharmaceutical quality assessment, the features common to these proteins were investigated. Compared to other immunoprecipitated HCP proteins, proteins exhibiting lower molecular weight (ΔMW = -14600), lower isoelectric point (ΔpI = -0.86), and lower hydrophobicity (ΔGRAVY = -0.13) were enriched. This AP-MS method provides important information for HCP control strategies using immunological methods and is expected to contribute to the development of safe biopharmaceutics
