Improving End-to-End Text Image Translation From the Auxiliary Text Translation Task
End-to-end text image translation (TIT), which aims at translating the source
language embedded in images to the target language, has attracted intensive
attention in recent research. However, data sparsity limits the performance of
end-to-end text image translation. Multi-task learning is a non-trivial way to
alleviate this problem via exploring knowledge from complementary related
tasks. In this paper, we propose a novel text translation enhanced text image
translation, which trains the end-to-end model with text translation as an
auxiliary task. By sharing model parameters and multi-task training, our model
is able to take full advantage of easily-available large-scale text parallel
corpus. Extensive experimental results show our proposed method outperforms
existing end-to-end methods, and the joint multi-task learning with both text
translation and recognition tasks achieves better results, proving translation

Upregulation of PIP3-dependent Rac exchanger 1 (P-Rex1) promotes prostate cancer metastasis.
Excessive activation of G-protein-coupled receptor (GPCR) and receptor tyrosine kinase (RTK) pathways has been linked to prostate cancer metastasis. Rac activation by guanine nucleotide exchange factors (GEFs) plays an important role in directional cell migration, a critical step of tumor metastasis cascades. We found that the upregulation of P-Rex1, a Rac-selective GEF synergistically activated by Gbetagamma freed during GPCR signaling, and PIP3, generated during either RTK or GPCR signaling, strongly correlates with metastatic phenotypes in both prostate cancer cell lines and human prostate cancer specimens. Silencing endogenous P-Rex1 in metastatic prostate cancer PC-3 cells selectively inhibited Rac activity and reduced cell migration and invasion in response to ligands of both epidermal growth factor receptor and G-protein-coupled CXC chemokine receptor 4. Conversely, expression of recombinant P-Rex1, but not its \u27GEF-dead\u27 mutant, in non-metastatic prostate cancer cells, such as CWR22Rv1, increased cell migration and invasion through Rac-dependent lamellipodia formation. More importantly, using a mouse xenograft model, we showed that the expression of P-Rex1, but not its mutant, induced lymph node metastasis of CWR22Rv1 cells without an effect on primary tumor growth. Thus, by functioning as a coincidence detector of chemotactic signals from both GPCRs and RTKs, P-Rex1-dependent activation of Rac promotes prostate cancer metastasis
The Special Neuraminidase Stalk-Motif Responsible for Increased Virulence and Pathogenesis of H5N1 Influenza A Virus
The variation of highly pathogenic avian influenza H5N1 virus results in gradually increased virulence in poultry, and human cases continue to accumulate. The neuraminidase (NA) stalk region of influenza virus varies considerably and may associate with its virulence. The NA stalk region of all N1 subtype influenza A viruses can be divided into six different stalk-motifs, H5N1/2004-like (NA-wt), WSN-like, H5N1/97-like, PR/8-like, H7N1/99-like and H5N1/96-like. The NA-wt is a special NA stalk-motif which was first observed in H5N1 influenza virus in 2000, with a 20-amino acid deletion in the 49th to 68th positions of the stalk region. Here we show that there is a gradual increase of the special NA stalk-motif in H5N1 isolates from 2000 to 2007, and notably, the special stalk-motif is observed in all 173 H5N1 human isolates from 2004 to 2007. The recombinant H5N1 virus with the special stalk-motif possesses the highest virulence and pathogenicity in chicken and mice, while the recombinant viruses with the other stalk-motifs display attenuated phenotype. This indicates that the special stalk-motif has contributed to the high virulence and pathogenicity of H5N1 isolates since 2000. Nerve Cell Deterioration Associated with Alzheimer\u27s Disease
Alzheimer\u27s disease is an extremely serious condition that is challenging to diagnose. We have used experimental data to compare the rate of decay of entorhinal cortex (EC) neurons in various stages of Alzheimer\u27s. We observed that the rate of EC neuron decay in the patients without Alzheimer\u27s is close to zero, linear in mild cases, and quadratic in severe cases. We believe that described estimates may help to diagnose the disease as well as its stage
Economic implications of emotional marketing based on consumer loyalty of mobile phone brands: the sequential mediating roles of brand identity and brand trust
With the advent of digital technology and social media, mobile phone companies are increasingly turning to emotional marketing to appeal to consumers’ inner preferences. The purpose of this study is to examine the economic consequences of emotional marketing on customer loyalty, while taking into account the mediating variables of brand identity and brand trust. By surveying 647 digitally-savvy consumers in China, the proposed model was empirically validated. The results suggest that emotional marketing plays a crucial role in fostering consumer loyalty towards mobile phone brands, and that brand identity and brand trust play sequential mediating roles in the impact of emotional marketing on consumer loyalty. This research enhances our understanding of emotional marketing and consumer loyalty, and offers valuable insights for mobile phone brands seeking to implement effective emotional marketing strategies
TcR-α recombinations in renal cell carcinoma exome files correlate with an intermediate level of T-cell exhaustion biomarkers.
Renal cell carcinoma exome-derived, V(D)J recombination reads had an elevated presence and variability, for both TcR-α and -β, when compared to marginal tissue, reflecting an opportunity to assess tumor immunogenicity by comparison with marginal tissue T cells. PD-1, PD-L2, CTLA4 and FOXP3, all of which are implicated in the evasion of an anti-tumor immune response, had a significantly higher expression for samples representing co-detection of productive TcR-α and -β recombination reads. Samples representing tumors with productive TcR-α recombination reads but no detectable, productive TcR-β recombination reads, reflected a 20% survival advantage, and RNASeq data indicated an intermediate level of immune checkpoint gene expression for those samples. These results raise the question of whether relatively high levels of detection of productive TcR-α recombination reads, in comparison with detection of reads representing the TcR-β gene, identify a microenvironment that has not yet entered a T-cell exhaustion phase and may thereby represent conditions for immune enhancements that do not require anti-immune checkpoint therapies
E2TIMT: Efficient and Effective Modal Adapter for Text Image Machine Translation
Text image machine translation (TIMT) aims to translate texts embedded in
images from one source language to another target language. Existing methods,
both two-stage cascade and one-stage end-to-end architectures, suffer from
different issues. The cascade models can benefit from the large-scale optical
character recognition (OCR) and MT datasets but the two-stage architecture is
redundant. The end-to-end models are efficient but suffer from training data
deficiency. To this end, in our paper, we propose an end-to-end TIMT model
fully making use of the knowledge from existing OCR and MT datasets to pursue
both an effective and efficient framework. More specifically, we build a novel
modal adapter effectively bridging the OCR encoder and MT decoder. End-to-end
TIMT loss and cross-modal contrastive loss are utilized jointly to align the
feature distribution of the OCR and MT tasks. Extensive experiments show that
the proposed method outperforms the existing two-stage cascade models and
one-stage end-to-end models with a lighter and faster architecture.
Furthermore, the ablation studies verify the generalization of our method,
where the proposed modal adapter is effective to bridge various OCR and MT
