The Influence of Endogenous Nutrition Knowledge on Consumers’ Willingness-To-Pay for Grass-Fed Beef
The relationship between nutrition knowledge and consumers’ food behavior has been debated for years. This may be partially attributed to the difficulty introduce by endogeneity of nutrition knowledge in econometric modeling. Using grass-fed beef as a vehicle, this paper investigates the impacts of consumers’ nutrition knowledge on their willingness to pay by accommodating the endogeneity problem using instrumental variable approach. Our results suggest that consumers’ nutrition knowledge significantly influences their willingness to pay for grass-fed beef. Taste and Visual Influences on Hispanic Consumers' Preferences and Willingness-to-Pay for Pasture-Fed Beef
Experimental Economics methods are used to determine Hispanic consumers’ sensory acceptance of pasture-fed beef and evaluate visual and taste influences on their overall preferences and willingness-to-pay (WTP). Two hundred and thirty-one Hispanic consumers in four experimental sites in Virginia participated in a laboratory experimental procedure where they visually examined and tasted pasture-fed and conventionally produced grain-fed beef, and then participated in a non-hypothetical Multiple Price Lists (MPL) experiment to determine their WTP. Hispanic consumers perceived significant differences between pasture-fed and grain-fed beef’s appearance and taste. Visual and taste acceptances are closely correlated to and significantly influence overall preferences. More than fifty percent of Hispanic consumers prefer pasture-fed beef and the majority of them consistently are willing to pay a price premium. Approximately, half consumers who generally prefer pasture-fed beef consistently consider the appearance and taste of pasture-fed beef more favorable but another half of them indicated discrepant visual and taste acceptances. Effects of critical temperature inhomogeneities on the voltage-current characteristics of a planar superconductor near the Berezinskii-Kosterlitz-Thouless transition
We analyze numerically how the voltage-current (V-I) characteristics near the
so-called Berezinskii-Kosterlitz-Thouless (BKT) transition of 2D
superconductors are affected by a random spatial Gaussian distribution of
critical temperature inhomogeneities with long characteristic lengths (much
larger than the in-plane superconducting coherence length amplitude). Our
simulations allow to quantify the broadening around the average BKT transition
temperature of both the exponent alpha in V I^alpha and of the resistance V/I.
These calculations reveal that strong spatial redistributions of the local
current will occur around the transition as either I or the temperature T are
varied. Our results also support that the condition alpha=3 provides a good
estimate for the location of the average BKT transition temperature, and that
extrapolating to alpha->1 the alpha(T) behaviour well below the transition

A nonlinear mechanism of charge qubit decoherence in a lossy cavity: the quasi normal mode approach
In the viewpoint of quasi normal modes, we describe a novel decoherence
mechanism of charge qubit of Josephson Junctions (JJ) in a lossy micro-cavity,
which can appear in the realistic experiment for quantum computation based on
JJ qubit. We show that the nonlinear coupling of a charge qubit to quantum
cavity field can result in an additional dissipation of resonant mode due to
its effective interaction between those non-resonant modes and a resonant mode,
which is induced by the charge qubit itself. We calculate the characterized
time of the novel decoherence by making use of the system plus bath method.Comment: 6 pages, 2 figur
Controllable manipulation and entanglement of macroscopic quantum states in coupled charge qubits
We present an experimentally implementable method to couple Josephson charge
qubits and to generate and detect macroscopic entangled states. A
large-junction superconducting quantum interference device is used in the qubit
circuit for both coupling qubits and implementing the readout. Also, we
explicitly show how to achieve a microwave-assisted macroscopic entanglement in
