Hidden nonlinear supersymmetries in pure parabosonic systems
The existence of intimate relation between generalized statistics and
supersymmetry is established by observation of hidden supersymmetric structure
in pure parabosonic systems. This structure is characterized generally by a
nonlinear superalgebra. The nonlinear supersymmetry of parabosonic systems may
be realized, in turn, by modifying appropriately the usual supersymmetric
quantum mechanics. The relation of nonlinear parabosonic supersymmetry to the
Calogero-like models with exchange interaction and to the spin chain models
with inverse-square interaction is pointed out.Comment: 20 pages, one reference corrected, to appear in Int. J. Mod. Phys.
Dilaton and Second-Rank Tensor Fields as Supersymmetric Compensators
We formulate a supersymmetric theory in which both a dilaton and a
second-rank tensor play roles of compensators. The basic off-shell multiplets
are a linear multiplet (B_{\mu\nu}, \chi, \phi) and a vector multiplet (A_\mu,
\l; C_{\mu\nu\rho}), where \phi and B_{\m\n} are respectively a dilaton and a
second-rank tensor. The third-rank tensor C_{\mu\nu\rho} in the vector
multiplet is 'dual' to the conventional D-field with 0 on-shell or 1 off-shell
degree of freedom. The dilaton \phi is absorbed into one longitudinal component
of A_\mu, making it massive. Initially, B_{\mu\nu} has 1 on-shell or 3
off-shell degrees of freedom, but it is absorbed into the longitudinal
components of C_{\mu\nu\rho}. Eventually, C_{\mu\nu\rho} with 0 on-shell or 1
off-shell degree of freedom acquires in total 1 on-shell or 4 off-shell degrees
of freedom, turning into a propagating massive field. These basic multiplets
are also coupled to chiral multiplets and a supersymmetric Dirac-Born-Infeld
action. Some of these results are also reformulated in superspace. The proposed
mechanism may well provide a solution to the long-standing puzzle of massless
dilatons and second-rank tensors in supersymmetric models inspired by string
theory.Comment: 15 pages, no figure
Supersymmetric Transformations in Optical Fibers
[EN] Supersymmetry (SUSY) has recently emerged as a tool to design unique optical structures with degenerate spectra. Here, we study several fundamental aspects and variants of one-dimensional SUSY in axially symmetric optical media, including their basic spectral features and the conditions for degeneracy breaking. Surprisingly, we find that the SUSY degeneracy theorem is partially (totally) violated in optical systems connected by isospectral (broken) SUSY transformations due to a degradation of the paraxial approximation. In addition, we show that isospectral constructions provide a dimension-independent design control over the group delay in SUSY fibers. Moreover, we find that the studied unbroken and isospectral SUSY transformations allow us to generate refractive-index superpartners with an extremely large phase-matching bandwidth spanning the S ĂŸ C ĂŸ L optical bands. These singular features define a class of optical fibers with a number of potential applications. To illustrate this, we numerically demonstrate the possibility of building photonic lanterns supporting broadband heterogeneous supermodes with large effective area, a broadband all-fiber true-mode (de)multiplexer requiring no mode conversion,
and different mode-filtering, mode-conversion, and pulse-shaping devices. Finally, we discuss the possibility of extrapolating our results to acoustics and quantum mechanics. We thank Sergio Lechago for his valuable help with the numerical simulations. Events in a Non-Commutative Space-Time
We treat the events determined by a quantum physical state in a
noncommutative space-time, generalizing the analogous treatment in the usual
Minkowski space-time based on positive-operator-valued measures (POVMs). We
consider in detail the model proposed by Snyder in 1947 and calculate the POVMs
defined on the real line that describe the measurement of a single coordinate.
The approximate joint measurement of all the four space-time coordinates is
described in terms of a generalized Wigner function (GWF). We derive lower
bounds for the dispersion of the coordinate observables and discuss the
covariance of the model under the Poincare' group. The unusual transformation
law of the coordinates under space-time translations is interpreted as a
failure of the absolute character of the concept of space-time coincidence. The
model shows that a minimal length is compatible with Lorents covariance.Comment: 13 pages, revtex. Introductory part shortened and some arguments made

Current Issues in the Phenomenology of Particle Physics
The present status of the Standard Model and its experimental tests are
reviewed, including indications on the likely mass of the Higgs boson. Also
discussed are the motivations for supersymmetry and grand unification, searches
for sparticles at LEP, neutrino oscillations, and the prospects for physics at
the LHC.Comment: 32 pages, LaTeX, 10 figures (included), Invited plenary talk

Topcolor-Assisted Supersymmetry
It has been known that the supersymmetric flavor changing neutral current
problem can be avoided if the squarks take the following mass pattern, namely
the first two generations with the same chirality are degenerate with masses
around the weak scale, while the third generation is very heavy. We realize
this scenario through the supersymmetric extension of a topcolor model with
gauge mediated supersymmetry breaking.Comment: 12 pages, latex, no figure
Search for Top Squark Pair Production in the Dielectron Channel
This report describes the first search for top squark pair production in the
channel stop_1 stopbar_1 -> b bbar chargino_1 chargino_1 -> ee+jets+MEt using
74.9 +- 8.9 pb^-1 of data collected using the D0 detector. A 95% confidence
level upper limit on sigma*B is presented. The limit is above the theoretical
expectation for sigma*B for this process, but does show the sensitivity of the
current D0 data set to a particular topology for new physics.Comment: Five pages, including three figures, submitted to PRD Brief Report
The Search for Supersymmetry at the Tevatron Collider
We review the status of searches for Supersymmetry at the Tevatron Collider.
After discussing the theoretical aspects relevant to the production and decay
of supersymmetric particles at the Tevatron, we present the current results for
Runs Ia and Ib as of the summer of 1997. To appear in the book "Perspectives in
Supersymmetry", edited by G.L. Kane, World Scientific.Comment: 84 pages with 31 figures imbedded using psfig.tex. Uses sprocl.st
