    The simulation analysis of contact characteristics of biomimetic flexible surfaces

    Based on the foot structure of the climbing biology and multivariate coupling bionic technology, the bionic flexible convex surface was designed and a 3D model was created using the digital modeling software. Finite Element Analysis software was used for contacting analysis to the bionic flexible convex foot structure in the state of dry friction and wet adhesion, and then studied frictional contact performance. The results of Finite Element Analysis shows that the contact stress of the convex is much larger than the stress of the area around it in the dry friction state and the deformation is mainly concentrated in the convex’s top. The friction between the hemispherical convex surface and the contact surface is the maximum and the cylindrical convex surface is the minimum. The friction between the bionic flexible convex structure and the solid contact surface in wet adhesion state is larger than dry state.Keywords: Bionic, flexible, contact, finite element, wet adhesio

    Study on shear performance of cold-formed thin-walled steel-paper straw board composite wall with openings

    To explore the application of cold-formed thin-walled steel-paper straw board(CTSPSB) composite wall in practical engineering and further meet people’s living requirements, it was proposed to open holes in the composite wall to simulate the doors and windows in practical applications. Two composite wall specimens were tested to study the shear performance of the CTSPSB composite wall. Through the analysis of specimens’ damage forms and experimental data, the characteristic values of bearing capacity and lateral stiffness were obtained. And then, the model of the composite wall was built by ANSYS, and finite element analysis (FEA) results were consistent with the experimental results, which could verify the feasibility of the finite element model. Moreover, the model needed to open holes and extensive parameter analysis was carried out. The FEA results indicate the most reasonable distance between screws around the opening is 150 mm; the most suitable spacing between the small studs is 400 mm; the position of the opening has the least influence on the shear performance, and the difference between the results of the five groups of models is within 5%; while the width of the opening has the greatest impact on the shear performance. Compared with the wall without opening, the bearing capacity of the wall with an opening width of 600 mm, 1200 mm and 1800 mm decreases by 38%, 46% and 52% respectively. Besides, the calculation formula of shear capacity of CTSPSB composite wall with openings was improved, which could be used as experience for practical engineering

    Determination of bupropion hydrochloride in rat plasma by LC-MS/MS and Its application to pharmacokinetic study

    A selective and sensitive liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry method was developed and validated for quantitation of bupropion hydrochloride in rat plasma using triazolam as an internal standard. Chromatographic separation was achieved on a SB-C18 column at 30 °C, with 50: 50 (v/v) acetonitrile-0.1 % formic acid in water as mobile phase. The flow rate was 0.3 mL/min. The determination of bupropion was performed in MRM mode, m/z 239.9 → 183.7 for bupropion and m/z 343.0 → 308.0 for triazolam (IS) and positive ion electrospray ionization interface. Calibration curve was linear over range of 1.2 to 480 ng/mL. The intra- and inter-run relative standard deviations of the assay were less than 10 %. The mean absolute recoveries determined at the concentrations of 2.4, 48 and 360 ng/mLwere 91.00%, 92.06%, 91.71%, respectively.     On the role of horizontal resolution over the Tibetan Plateau in the REMO regional climate model

    A number of studies have shown that added value is obtained by increasing the horizontal resolution of a regional climate model to capture additional fine-scale weather processes. However, the mechanisms leading to this added value are different over areas with complicated orographic features, such as the Tibetan Plateau (TP). To determine the role that horizontal resolution plays over the TP, a detailed comparison was made between the results from the REMO regional climate model at resolutions of 25 and 50 km for the period 1980–2007. The model was driven at the lateral boundaries by the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts Interim Reanalysis data. The experiments differ only in representation of topography, all other land parameters (e.g., vegetation characteristics, soil texture) are the same. The results show that the high-resolution topography affects the regional air circulation near the ground surface around the edge of the TP, which leads to a redistribution of the transport of atmospheric water vapor, especially over the Brahmaputra and Irrawaddy valleys—the main water vapor paths for the southern TP—increasing the amount of atmospheric water vapor transported onto the TP by about 5. This, in turn, significantly decreases the temperature at 2 m by > 1.5 °C in winter in the high-resolution simulation of the southern TP. The impact of topography on the 2 m temperature over the TP is therefore by influencing the transport of atmospheric water vapor in the main water vapor paths. © 2018 Springer-Verlag GmbH Germany, part of Springer Natur

    Using polysaccharides for the enhancement of functionality of foods: A review

    peer-reviewedBackground: Flavor, taste and functional ingredients are important ingredients of food, but they are easily lost or react during heating and are not stable. Carbohydrate-carbohydrate interactions (CCIs) and carbohydrate-protein interactions (CPIs) are involved in a variety of regulatory biological processes in nature, including cell differentiation, proliferation, adhesion, inflammation and immune responses. Polysaccharides have high molecular weights and many intramolecular hydrogen bonds, can be easily modified chemically and biochemically to enhance bioadhesive and biostability of tissues. Therefore, polysaccharides are the foundation for building complex and stable biosystems that are non-toxic with highydrophilicity and easily biodegradable. Scope and approach: In this review, we summarize the principles and applications of polysaccharide delivery systems in a variety of foods. Key findings and conclusions: This review focuses on the self-assembly of carbohydrates with complex structures and discusses the latest advances in self-assembly systems. The host-guest complexes formed by polyvalent sugar conjugates have the potential to provide, control or target delivery or release systems. They can also extend the shelf life of food and prevent oxidation and isomerization during food storage. Moreover, very few studies have outlined a comprehensive overview of the use of various types of food polysaccharide matrixes for the assembly and protection of food ingredients, which is a very important area for further study

    Bidirectional associations between daytime napping duration and metabolic syndrome: A nationally representative cohort study

    Background: We aimed to examine the bidirectional associations between daytime napping duration and metabolic syndrome (MetS). Methods: Using data from the China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study from 2011 to 2015, modified Poisson regression models were performed to explore the longitudinal associations of baseline napping duration with the occurrence and remission of MetS. Generalized estimating equation was conducted to explore the association between baseline MetS status with subsequent changes in daytime napping duration. Cross-lagged panel analysis was performed to further verify their bidirectional relationships. Results: During the four-year follow-up, among 5041 participants without MetS at baseline, extended naps were significantly associated with MetS occurrence, compared with non-napping. This association was only significant in individuals with adequate night-time sleep duration or good sleep quality of the 2898 participants with MetS at baseline. Excessive napping duration may be not favorable for MetS remission especially for adequate night-time sleepers. With respect to reverse associations, baseline MetS status significantly increased the napping duration during the subsequent follow-up period. Finally, there were significant bidirectional cross-lagged associations between napping duration and MetS severity score after adjusting for all covariates. Conclusions: Our study indicates bidirectional relationships exist between daytime napping duration and MetS. Interestingly, longer napping duration was detrimental to cardiometabolic health only in those with sufficient night-time sleep duration or good sleep quality

    Concentrations and gas-particle partitioning of PCDD/Fs in the urban air of Dalian, China

    PCDD/Fs in the urban air of Dalian, China were monitored with high-volume active sampler from November 2009 to October 2010. The concentration of Cl4-8DD/Fs ranged from 3065 to 49538 fg m(-3), with an average of 10249 fg m(-3). The international toxic equivalents (I-TEQ) value of that was 61.8-1182 fg m(-3), with an average of 235 fg m(-3), which was comparable to those in the other urban locations around the world. It was found that the Cl4-8DD/Fs appeared to be present mainly in the particle phase during winter, spring and autumn, while during summer which were dominantly in gas phase. The ratio of Cl4-8DD/Fs present in particle phase increased with the increasing level of chlorination. The concentrations of PCDFs and PCDDs decreased with the increase of chlorinated level, while the concentrations of 2,3,7,8-PCDDs congeners increased with the increase of chlorination level. The homolog profiles of the concentrations of PCDFs presented were higher than those of the PCDDs, which indicated the PCDD/Fs pollution source of the air in Dalian was characteristic for thermal source pollution. The correlation analysis of meteorological parameters with the concentrations of Cl4-8CDD/Fs was conducted using SPSS packages, and it was found that the ambient temperature and atmospheric pressure were important factors influence the concentration of PCDD/Fs in the air. The respiratory risk and intake dioxins of the residents around the sampling sites were studied in the paper. It was found that Junge-Pankow model was much more accurate in predicting the gas-particle partitioning behavior of PCDD/Fs homologues during winter, while the Harner-Bidleman model shows better agreement with the measured data during winter and summer

    Moderate increase of serum uric acid within a normal range is associated with improved cognitive function in a non-normotensive population: A nationally representative cohort study

    Background: Associations between serum uric acid (SUA) and changes in cognitive function are understudied in non-normotensive populations, and many previous studies only considered the baseline SUA at a single time point. We aimed to examine the effects of baseline SUA and 4-year changes in SUA on cognitive changes in the non-normotensive population. Materials and methods : In the China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study (CHARLS), cognitive function was measured based on executive function and episodic memory in four visits (years: 2011, 2013, 2015, and 2018). We identified two study cohorts from CHARLS. The first cohort included 3,905 non-normotensive participants. Group-based single-trajectory and multi-trajectory models were applied to identify 7-year cognitive trajectories. Adjusted ordinal logistics models were performed to assess the association between baseline SUA and 7-year cognitive trajectories, and subgroup analyses were conducted according to the presence of hyperuricemia or SUA levels. The second cohort included 2,077 eligible participants. Multiple linear regression was used to explore the effect of a 4-year change in SUA on cognitive change during the subsequent 3-year follow-up. Results: Four distinct single-trajectories of global cognitive performance and four multi-trajectories of executive function and episodic memory were identified. Higher baseline SUA levels were significantly associated with more favorable cognitive single-trajectories (ORQ4 vs. Q1 : 0.755; 95 % CI: 0.643, 0.900) and multi-trajectories (ORQ4 vs. Q1: 0.784; 95 % CI: 0.659, 0.933). Subgroup analyses revealed that the protective effect of SUA was significant in the non-hyperuricemia groups or the low-level SUA groups. Additionally, changes in SUA could influence future cognitive changes. Compared with non-hyperuricemia participants with elevated SUA, non-hyperuricemia participants with decreased SUA and patients with persistent hyperuricemia had a higher risk for cognitive decline. Furthermore, only the Q3 group of changes in SUA could enhance global cognitive function compared with the Q1 group (β: 0.449; 95 % CI: 0.073, 0.826). Conclusion: Our study indicates that the maintenance of normal SUA levels and a moderate increase of SUA were advantageous in improving cognitive function or trajectories in a non-normotensive population. Conversely, SUA may impair cognitive function in patients with persistent hyperuricemia

    Addition of T2-Guided Optical Tomography Improves Noncontrast Breast Magnetic Resonance Imaging Diagnosis.

    BACKGROUND: While dynamic contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging (DCE MRI) is recognized as the most sensitive examination for breast cancer detection, it has a substantial false positive rate and gadolinium (Gd) contrast agents are not universally well tolerated. As a result, alternatives to diagnosing breast cancer based on endogenous contrast are of growing interest. In this study, endogenous near-infrared spectral tomography (NIRST) guided by T2 MRI was evaluated to explore whether the combined imaging modality, which does not require contrast injection or involve ionizing radiation, can achieve acceptable diagnostic performance. METHODS: Twenty-four subjects-16 with pathologically confirmed malignancy and 8 with benign abnormalities-were simultaneously imaged with MRI and NIRST prior to definitive pathological diagnosis. MRIs were evaluated independently by three breast radiologists blinded to the pathological results. Optical image reconstructions were constrained by grayscale values in the T2 MRI. MRI and NIRST images were used, alone and in combination, to estimate the diagnostic performance of the data. Outcomes were compared to DCE results. RESULTS: Sensitivity, specificity, accuracy, and area under the curve (AUC) of noncontrast MRI when combined with T2-guided NIRST were 94%, 100%, 96%, and 0.95, respectively, whereas these values were 94%, 63%, 88%, and 0.81 for DCE MRI alone, and 88%, 88%, 88%, and 0.94 when DCE-guided NIRST was added. CONCLUSION: In this study, the overall accuracy of imaging diagnosis improved to 96% when T2-guided NIRST was added to noncontrast MRI alone, relative to 88% for DCE MRI, suggesting that similar or better diagnostic accuracy can be achieved without requiring a contrast agent
