Gasoline Tax? A System Dynamics Study of Private Passenger Vehicles in China
Scarcity of oil and increasing demand make the crude price continue to climb, and such pressure urges our effort to reduce the reliance on oil products. As a majorconsumer of oil synthetic fuels, the transportation sector needs to take a big step inenergy conservation. To inform policy makers of costs and benefits in the future ofdecisions made now, this paper develops a system dynamic model to explore the roleof gasoline taxation in the process of fuel economy technology development andadoption. The model focuses mostly on the interplay of gasoline price change, carconsumer choices and automakers technology investment decisions. It is built andsimulated in the context of China and its growing private passenger car market.Gasoline tax, tax refund, technology development subsidy are tested and compared. When the gasoline price increases, the sooner we impose the gasoline tax, thebetter. Even though we face a cost increase right after the tax imposition, we canenjoy a much lower cost later and cover the cost increase before. Taking the tax assubsidy for technology development of fuel economy, a much better benefit can beenjoyed
Tourists' Attitudes Towards Tea Tourism: A Case Study in Xinyang, China
Tea tourism as a new niche market has become more and more popular. Through a case study in Xinyang, China, this research explores tourists' attitudes and perceptions toward tea and tea tourism, identifies who the potential tea tourists are, and compares their attitudes with others. One hundred seventy-nine questionnaires were administered; one-way ANOVA and chi-square test were used based on their willingness of tea tourism. The results suggest that tea tourists and non-tea tourists have significant differences in terms of their attitudes toward tea drinking and their willingness of buying tea as souvenir. Tea tourists are mainly tea lovers driven by their high interest in tea and tea culture; they tend to be both males and females (yet females show a significant higher percentage than males), between ages 31-40, who have a positive attitude toward tea drinking, and who often drink tea. This research also provides some marketing suggestions for this niche market
Modelling attitudes to nature, tourism and sustainable development in national parks: A survey of visitors in China and the UK
This research undertook a visitor survey in two protected areas in different cultural contexts, namely China and the UK, to explore whether the value a person attaches to the environment influences their attitude towards sustainable tourism development in national parks. Structural equation models were developed with data from 597 and 368 questionnaires collected in Jiuzhaigou National Scenic Area, China and the New Forest National Park, UK respectively. The results suggested that anthropocentric or ecocentric values significantly influence people's attitudes to tourism and sustainable development. The same structured causal relationship was found in both samples, between people's attitudes towards the natural environment, conservation and tourism in a national park context. © 2014 Elsevier Ltd
Integrated Sensing and Communications with Joint Beam Squint and Beam Split for Massive MIMO
Integrated sensing and communications (ISAC) has attracted tremendous
attention for the future 6G wireless communication systems. To improve the
transmission rates and sensing accuracy, massive multi-input multi-output
(MIMO) technique is leveraged with large transmission bandwidth. However, the
growing size of transmission bandwidth and antenna array results in the beam
squint effect, which hampers the communications. Moreover, the time overhead of
the traditional sensing algorithm is prohibitive for practical systems. In this
paper, instead of alleviating the wideband beam squint effect, we take
advantage of joint beam squint and beam split effect and propose a novel user
directions sensing method integrated with massive MIMO orthogonal frequency
division multiplexing (OFDM) systems. Specifically, with the beam squint
effect, the BS utilizes the true-time-delay (TTD) lines to steer the beams of
different OFDM subcarriers towards different directions simultaneously. The
users feedback the subcarrier frequency with the maximum array gain to the BS.
Then, the BS calculates the direction based on the subcarrier frequency
feedback. Futhermore, the beam split effect introduced by enlarging the
inter-antenna spacing is exploited to expand the sensing range. The proposed
sensing method operates over frequency-domain, and the intended sensing range
is covered by all the subcarriers simultaneously, which reduces the time
overhead of the conventional sensing significantly. Simulation results have
demonstrated the effectiveness as well as the superior performance of the
proposed ISAC scheme.Comment: 13 pages, 11 figures, submitted to IEEE journa
Travel experiences and aspirations: a case study from Chinese youth
Understanding cultural values is vital in tourism as these influence an individual’s travel experiences and expectations. Students represent an important segment of the international tourist population, and Chinese student tourists are an increasingly significant part of that segment. It is therefore important to understand how cultural values influence Chinese students’ experiences and aspirations. Will their past travel experiences influence future aspirations? Using data collected from a free-elicitation method, this paper reports on the travel experiences and aspirations of 284 Chinese students. It explores the notional link between past experiences and future aspirations and discusses the impact of Chinese political history and cultural values on tourist experiences and motivations. Implications for marketing are drawn out
