Synthesis of benzo-, pyrido-, thieno- and imidazo-fused N-hydroxy-4-oxopyrimidine-2-carboxylic acid derivatives
N-Hydroxy-4-oxoquinazoline-2-carboxamide derivatives (cyclic hydroxamic acids) and related pyrido- and thieno-substituted analogues, as well as a N-hydroxyhypoxanthine-2-carboxamide were synthesised for the first time, by means of a four-step sequence that involves a smooth reaction of aminohydroxamates with methyl trimethoxyacetate. Particle Swarm Optimization, Genetic Algorithm and Grey Wolf Optimizer Algorithms Performance Comparative for a DC-DC Boost Converter PID Controller
[EN] Power converters are electronic devices widely applied in industry, and in recent years, for renewable energy electronic systems, they can regulate voltage levels and actuate as interfaces, however, to do so, is needed a controller. Proportional-Integral-Derivative (PID) are applied to power converters comparing output voltage versus a reference voltage to reduce and anticipate error. Using PID controllers may be complicated since must be previously tuned prior to their use. Many methods for PID controllers tunning have been proposed, from classical to metaheuristic approaches. Between the metaheuristic approaches, bio-inspired algorithms are a feasible solution; Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) and Genetic Algorithms (GA) are often used; however, they need many initial parameters to be specified, this can lead to local solutions, and not necessarily the global optimum. In recent years, new generation metaheuristic algorithms with fewer initial parameters had been proposed. The Grey Wolf Optimizer (GWO) algorithm is based on wolves¿ herds chasing habits. In this work, a comparison between PID controllers tunning using GWO, PSO, and GA algorithms for a Boost Converter is made. The converter is modeled by state-space equations, and then the optimization of the related PID controller is made using MATLAB/Simulink software. The algorithm¿s performance is evaluated using the Root Mean Squared Error (RMSE). Results show that the proposed GWO algorithm is a feasible solution for the PID controller tunning problem for power converters since its overall performance is better than the obtained by the PSO and GA.The authors wish to thank the Institute of Energy Engineering of

Entropía de vertidos residuales en la economía local de los habitantes de la Laguna de Zapotlán, México.
One of the main economic sources for the commu-nities near the Laguna de Zapotlán has to do with the use of the resources coming from this wetland loca-ted in western Mexico. However, activities such as fishing, tourism and trade of handicrafts made from Schoenoplectus acutus have recently been affec-ted. In this way, the objective of this work identi-fies the relationship of the local economy and the management and treatment of residual discharges in the lagoon, through the content analysis and the realization of a quasi-ethnographic exercise. The re-sults suggest that the incorporation of contaminated flows from human settlements and agricultural acti-vities has led to a entropy in the system.Una de las principales fuentes económicas para las comunidades cercanas a la Laguna de Zapot-lán, tiene que ver con el aprovechamiento de los recursos provenientes de este humedal ubicado en el occidente de México. Sin embargo, actividades como la pesca, el turismo y el comercio de artesa-nías elaboradas de Schoenoplectus acutus se han visto afectadas recientemente. De tal forma, que el objetivo de este trabajo identifica la relación de la economía local y el manejo y tratamiento de los vertidos residuales en la laguna, a través del aná-lisis de contenido y la realización de un ejercicio cuasi-etnográfico. Los resultados sugieren que la incorporación de caudales contaminados prove-nientes de asentamientos humanos y actividades agropecuarias, han conducido a una entropía en el sistema ecológico, incrementando el eichhornia crassipes y mermando la economía de la región
Biofunctionalized Zinc Oxide Field Effect Transistors for Selective Sensing of Riboflavin with Current Modulation
Zinc oxide field effect transistors (ZnO-FET), covalently functionalized with single stranded DNA aptamers, provide a highly selective platform for label-free small molecule sensing. The nanostructured surface morphology of ZnO provides high sensitivity and room temperature deposition allows for a wide array of substrate types. Herein we demonstrate the selective detection of riboflavin down to the pM level in aqueous solution using the negative electrical current response of the ZnO-FET by covalently attaching a riboflavin binding aptamer to the surface. The response of the biofunctionalized ZnO-FET was tuned by attaching a redox tag (ferrocene) to the 3′ terminus of the aptamer, resulting in positive current modulation upon exposure to riboflavin down to pM levels
Electrode surface treatment and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy study on carbon/carbon supercapacitors
Power improvement in supercapacitors is mainly
related to lowering the internal impedance. The real part of
the impedance at a given frequency is called ESR (equivalent
series resistance). Several contributions are included in the ESR: the electrolyte resistance (including the separator), the active material resistance (with both ionic and electronic parts) and the active material/current collector interface resistance. The first two contributions have been intensively described and studied by many authors. The first part of this paper is focused on the use of surface treatments as a way to decrease the active
material/current collector impedance. Al current collector
foils have been treated following a two-step procedure: electrochemical etching and sol-gel coating by a highly-covering, conducting carbonaceous material. It aims to increase the Al foil/active material surface contact leading to lower resistance. In a second part, carbon-carbon supercapacitor impedance is discussed in term of complex capacitance and complex power from electrochemical impedance spectroscopy data. This representation permits extraction of a relaxation time constant that provides important information on supercapacitor behaviour. The influence of carbon nanotubes addition on electrochemical performance of carbon/carbon supercapacitors has also been studied by electrochemical impedance spectroscopy
Multiethnic Meta-Analysis Identifies Ancestry-Specific and Cross-Ancestry Loci for Pulmonary Function
Nearly 100 loci have been identified for pulmonary function, almost exclusively in studies of European ancestry populations. We extend previous research by meta-analyzing genome-wide association studies of 1000 Genomes imputed variants in relation to pulmonary function in a multiethnic population of 90,715 individuals of European (N = 60,552), African (N = 8429), Asian (N = 9959), and Hispanic/Latino (N = 11,775) ethnicities. We identify over 50 additional loci at genome-wide significance in ancestry-specific or multiethnic meta-analyses. Using recent fine-mapping methods incorporating functional annotation, gene expression, and differences in linkage disequilibrium between ethnicities, we further shed light on potential causal variants and genes at known and newly identified loci. Several of the novel genes encode proteins with predicted or established drug targets, including KCNK2 and CDK12. Our study highlights the utility of multiethnic and integrative genomics approaches to extend existing knowledge of the genetics of lung function and clinical relevance of implicated loci
