Efficient Baeyer-Villiger electro-oxidation of ketones with molecular oxygen using an activated carbon fiber electrode in ionic liquid [bmim][OTf]
A new and efficient method for the synthesis of lactones and esters involving the application of an molecular oxygen-based electro-catalytic oxidation system and ionic liquid [bmim][OTf] as electrolyte has been developed. The reaction between various ketones with molecular oxygen proceeds in a three-electrode cell under constant current conditions in [bmim][OTf] at room temperature to give the corresponding esters and lactones in good to excellent isolated yield. Additionally, the possible mechanism of Baeyer-Villiger oxidation of ketones in the electro-catalytic system is proposed. Strong correlation and massive spectral-weight redistribution induced spin density wave in a-Fe1.06Te
The electronic structure of a-Fe1.06Te is studied with angle-resolved
photoemission spectroscopy. We show that there is substantial spectral weight
around Gamma and X, and lineshapes are intrinsically incoherent in the
paramagnetic state. The magnetic transition is characterized by a massive
spectral-weight transfer over an energy range as large as the band width, which
even exhibits a hysteresis loop that marks the strong first order transition.
Coherent quasiparticles emerge in the magnetically ordered state due to
decreased spin fluctuations, which account for the change of transport
properties from insulating behavior to metallic behavior. Our observation
demonstrates that Fe1.06Te distinguishes itself from other iron-based systems
with more local characters and much stronger interactions among different
degrees of freedom, and how a spin density wave is formed in the presence of

Anisotropic but nodeless superconducting gap in the presence of spin density wave in iron-pnictide superconductor NaFe1-xCoxAs
The coexisting regime of spin density wave (SDW) and superconductivity in the
iron pnictides represents a novel ground state. We have performed high
resolution angle-resolved photoemission measurements on NaFe1-xCoxAs (x =
0.0175) in this regime and revealed its distinctive electronic structure, which
provides some microscopic understandings of its behavior. The SDW signature and
the superconducting gap are observed on the same bands, illustrating the
intrinsic nature of the coexistence. However, because the SDW and
superconductivity are manifested in different parts of the band structure,
their competition is non-exclusive. Particularly, we found that the gap
distribution is anisotropic and nodeless, in contrast to the isotropic
superconducting gap observed in an SDW-free NaFe1-xCoxAs (x=0.045), which puts

Generating Abstractive Summaries from Meeting Transcripts
Summaries of meetings are very important as they convey the essential content
of discussions in a concise form. Generally, it is time consuming to read and
understand the whole documents. Therefore, summaries play an important role as
the readers are interested in only the important context of discussions. In
this work, we address the task of meeting document summarization. Automatic
summarization systems on meeting conversations developed so far have been
primarily extractive, resulting in unacceptable summaries that are hard to
read. The extracted utterances contain disfluencies that affect the quality of
the extractive summaries. To make summaries much more readable, we propose an
approach to generating abstractive summaries by fusing important content from
several utterances. We first separate meeting transcripts into various topic
segments, and then identify the important utterances in each segment using a
supervised learning approach. The important utterances are then combined
together to generate a one-sentence summary. In the text generation step, the
dependency parses of the utterances in each segment are combined together to
create a directed graph. The most informative and well-formed sub-graph
obtained by integer linear programming (ILP) is selected to generate a
one-sentence summary for each topic segment. The ILP formulation reduces
disfluencies by leveraging grammatical relations that are more prominent in
non-conversational style of text, and therefore generates summaries that is
comparable to human-written abstractive summaries. Experimental results show
that our method can generate more informative summaries than the baselines. In
addition, readability assessments by human judges as well as log-likelihood
estimates obtained from the dependency parser show that our generated summaries

Are Asians comfortable with discussing death in health valuation studies? A study in multi-ethnic Singapore
BACKGROUND
To characterize ease in discussing death (EID) and its influence on health valuation in a multi-ethnic Asian population and to determine the acceptability of various descriptors of death and "pits"/"all-worst" in health valuation.
METHODS
In-depth interviews (English or mother-tongue) among adult Chinese, Malay and Indian Singaporeans selected to represent both genders and a wide range of ages/educational levels. Subjects rated using 0–10 visual analogue scales (VAS): (1) EID, (2) acceptability of 8 descriptors for death, and (3) appropriateness of "pits" and "all-worst" as descriptors for the worst possible health state. Subjects also valued 3 health states using VAS followed by time trade-off (TTO). The influence of sociocultural variables on EID and these descriptors was studied using univariable analyses and multiple linear regression (MLR). The influence of EID on VAS/TTO utilities with adjustment for sociocultural variables was assessed using MLR.
RESULTS
Subjects (n = 63, 35% Chinese, 32% Malay, median age 44 years) were generally comfortable with discussing death (median EID: 8.0). Only education significantly influenced EID (p = 0.045). EID correlated weakly with VAS/TTO scores (range: VAS: -0.23 to 0.07; TTO: -0.14 to 0.11). All subjects felt "passed away", "departed" and "deceased" were most acceptable (median acceptability: 8.0) while "sudden death" and "immediate death" were least acceptable (median acceptability: 5.0). Subjects clearly preferred "all-worst" to "pits" (63% vs. 19%, p < 0.001).
CONCLUSION
Singaporeans were generally comfortable with discussing death and had clear preferences for several descriptors of death and for "all-worst". EID is unlikely to influence health preference measurement in health valuation studies
