    A New Exposed-terminal-free MAC Protocol for Multi-hop Wireless Networks

    AbstractThis article presents a new multichannel medium access control (MAC) protocol to solve the exposed-terminal (ET) problem for efficient channel sharing in multi-hop wireless networks. It uses request-to-send and clear-to-send (RTS/CTS) dialogue on a common channel and flexibly opts for conflict-free traffic channels to carry out the data packet transmission on the basis of a new channel selection scheme. The acknowledgment (ACK) packet for the data packet transmission is sent back to the sender over another common channel thus completely eliminating the exposed-terminal effects. Any adjacent communication pair can take full advantage of multiple traffic channels without collision and the spatial reuse of the same channel is extended to other communication pairs which are even within 2 hops from them. In addition, the hidden-terminal effect is also considerably reduced because most of possible packet collisions on a single channel are avoided due to traffic load balance on multichannels. Finally, a performance comparison is made between the proposed protocol and other typical MAC protocols. Simulation results evidence its obvious superiority to the MAC protocols associated with other channel selection schemes and traditional ACK transmission scheme as well as cooperative asynchronous multichannel MAC (CAM-MAC) protocol in terms of four performance indices: total channel utilization, average channel utilization, average packet delay, and packet dropping rate

    The development of capitalism is always uneven and crisis-prone. The gap between developed countries and developing countries has grown wider since the 1980s, while the emerging economies including BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa) have grown faster than developed countries, occupying a growing share of world GDP especially since the 2008 world economic and financial crisis. But developed countries still take most surplus value in the world through various financial powers and rigged trade deals which favour them over emerging economies and transfer and deepen all kinds of contradictions in ecology, class, race, and gender to developing countries. At this juncture, June 2015, world scholars of Marxism gathered together in Wits University, South Africa, to discuss the uneven and crisis-prone development of capitalism from the perspective of Marxian economics.     Local hyperthermia decreases the expression of CCL-20 in condyloma acuminatum

    <p>Abstract</p> <p>Background</p> <p>Local hyperthermia has been successfully used in the treatment of viral warts. However, the mechanism of action has largely remained unclear. CCL-20 (also known as MIP-3α) is the most potent chemokine for recruitment of Langerhans cell (LC) precursors into the skin. CCL-20 expression can be increased by TNF-α and IL-1α. The effects of local hyperthermia on the mRNA expressions of CCL-20, TNF-α, IL-1α have been investigated in both condyloma acuminata (CA) and normal skin. Under an organotypic culture condition, fresh CA and normal skin were subjected to surface heating at 37°C, 42°C and 45°C for 30 mins, respectively.</p> <p>Results</p> <p>The mRNA expressions of CCL-20 and IL-1α in CA specimen were significantly higher than those in normal skin. Local hyperthermia at 42°C and 45°C significantly decreased the mRNA levels of CCL-20 and IL-1α, as compared with the control groups (p < 0.01). The decrease of CCL-20 was well correlated with that of IL-1α. The expression of TNF-α in CA remained unchanged in spite of the temperature variation. Local hyperthermia at 45°C concomitantly increased the mRNA expression of CCL-20 and IL-1α in normal skin.</p> <p>Conclusions</p> <p>Our study suggests that hyperthermia decreases the expression of CCL-20 with concomitant decrease in IL-1α, and reduce the number of Langerhans cells in HPV infected skin.</p

    Coexistence of Cu(ii) and Cu(i) in Cu ion-doped zeolitic imidazolate frameworks (ZIF-8) for the dehydrogenative coupling of silanes with alcohols.

    Recently, metal-ion-doped zeolitic imidazolate frameworks have gained considerable attention for their structure tailorability and potential catalytic applications. Herein, Cu ion-doped ZIF-8 nanocrystals were successfully prepared by the mechanical grinding of Cu(NO3)2, ZnO and 2-methylimidazole (HMeIM) using ethanol as an additive. In contrast to the general view that only Cu(ii) is present in Cu-doped ZIF-8, we found the coexistence of Cu(ii) and Cu(i) in this material, which was supported by XPS and X-ray induced Auger electron spectroscopy (XAES) characterizations. Moreover, ethanol might have acted as a reducer to induce the reduction of Cu(ii) during synthesis. Due to the mixed valency of Cu ions, the Cu ion-doped ZIF-8 nanocrystals showed excellent catalytic performance in the dehydrogenative coupling of silanes with alcohols
