Robust Spin Squeezing Preservation in Photonic Crystal Cavities

We show that the robust spin squeezing preservation can be achieved by utilizing detuning modification for an ensemble of N separate two-level atoms embedded in photonic crystal cavities (PCC). In particular, we explore the different dynamical behaviors of spin squeezing between isotropic and anisotropic PCC cases when the atomic frequency is inside the band gap. In both cases, it is shown that the robust preservation of spin squeezing is completely determined by the formation of bound states. Intriguingly, we find that unlike the isotropic case where steady-state spin squeezing varies smoothly when the atomic frequency moves from the inside to the outside band edge, a sudden transition occurs for the anisotropic case. The present results may be of direct importance for, e.g., quantum metrology in open quantum systems.Comment: 6 pages, 4 figures, accepted by Laser Physics Letter

Exploring transcriptional signalling mediated by OsWRKY13, a potential regulator of multiple physiological processes in rice

BACKGROUND Rice transcription regulator OsWRKY13 influences the functioning of more than 500 genes in multiple signalling pathways, with roles in disease resistance, redox homeostasis, abiotic stress responses, and development. RESULTS To determine the putative transcriptional regulation mechanism of OsWRKY13, the putative cis-acting elements of OsWRKY13-influenced genes were analyzed using the whole genome expression profiling of OsWRKY13-activated plants generated with the Affymetrix GeneChip Rice Genome Array. At least 39 transcription factor genes were influenced by OsWRKY13, and 30 of them were downregulated. The promoters of OsWRKY13-upregulated genes were overrepresented with W-boxes for WRKY protein binding, whereas the promoters of OsWRKY13-downregulated genes were enriched with cis-elements putatively for binding of MYB and AP2/EREBP types of transcription factors. Consistent with the distinctive distribution of these cis-elements in up- and downregulated genes, nine WRKY genes were influenced by OsWRKY13 and the promoters of five of them were bound by OsWRKY13 in vitro; all seven differentially expressed AP2/EREBP genes and six of the seven differentially expressed MYB genes were suppressed by in OsWRKY13-activated plants. A subset of OsWRKY13-influenced WRKY genes were involved in host-pathogen interactions. CONCLUSION These results suggest that OsWRKY13-mediated signalling pathways are partitioned by different transcription factors. WRKY proteins may play important roles in the monitoring of OsWRKY13-upregulated genes and genes involved in pathogen-induced defence responses, whereas MYB and AP2/EREBP proteins may contribute most to the control of OsWRKY13-downregulated genes. This work was supported by grants from the National Program of High Technology Development of China, the National Program on the Development of Basic Research in China, and the National Natural Science Foundation of China

    Role of Ī›(1670)\Lambda(1670) in the Ī³pā†’K+Ī·Ī›\gamma p \to K^+ \eta \Lambda reaction near threshold

The role of the Ī›(1670)\Lambda(1670) resonance in the Ī³pā†’K+Ī·Ī›\gamma p \to K^+ \eta \Lambda reaction near threshold is studied within an effective Lagrangian approach. We perform a calculation for the total and differential cross section of the Ī³pā†’K+Ī·Ī›\gamma p \to K^+ \eta \Lambda reaction by including the contributions from the Ī›(1670)\Lambda(1670) intermediate state decaying into Ī·Ī›\eta \Lambda dominated by Kāˆ’K^- and Kāˆ—āˆ’K^{*-} mesons exchanges, the nucleon pole and Nāˆ—(1535)N^*(1535) resonance decaying into K+Ī›K^+ \Lambda dominated by exchanges of Ļ‰\omega and Kāˆ’K^- mesons. Besides, the non-resonance process and contact terms to keep the total scattering amplitude gauge invariant are also considered. With our model parameters, the total cross section of this reaction is of the order of 11 nanobarn at photon beam energy EĪ³āˆ¼2.5E_{\gamma} \sim 2.5 GeV. It is expected that our model predictions could be tested by future experiments.Comment: Published versio

Enhancing teleportation of quantum Fisher information by partial measurements

The purport of quantum teleportation is to completely transfer information from one party to another distant partner. However, from the perspective of parameter estimation, it is the information carried by a particular parameter, not the information of total quantum state that needs to be teleported. Due to the inevitable noise in environment, we propose two schemes to enhance quantum Fisher information (QFI) teleportation under amplitude damping noise with the technique of partial measurements. We find that post partial measurement can greatly enhance the teleported QFI, while the combination of prior partial measurement and post partial measurement reversal could completely eliminate the effect of decoherence. We show that, somewhat consequentially, enhancing QFI teleportation is more economic than that of improving fidelity teleportation. Our work extends the ability of partial measurements as a quantum technique to battle decoherence in quantum information processing.Comment: Revised version, minor changes, accepted by Phys. Rev.

Recent advance in direct sp3 carbon-hydrogen bond functionalizations

    Get PDF
Direct and selective carbon-hydrogen bond functionalization has attracted enormous attention because it provides more efficient strategies for preparing valuable functional molecules from easily available substrates. Significant and exciting developments in functionalization of un-activation Csp3-H bonds have continuously been made over the past few decades. This review mainly summarizes recent advances on direct Csp3-H bond functionalization for the formation of C-C and C-heteroatom bond under transition-metal-catalysed and metal-free conditions

Expression and Clinical Significance of Antiapoptotic Gene (Survivin) in NB4 and Acute Promyelocytic Leukemia Cells

To study survivin gene expression in APL cells and to explore its correlation with clinical manifestations. PML/RARĪ± and survivin mRNA expression were analysed using RT-PCR. By treatment of ATRA, the survivin mRNA expression in NB4 cells gradually decreased with time and was almost undetectable in the 72th hour. Survivin was expressed in 67% of the 36 APL cases (de novo and relapse patients) with PML/RARĪ± fusion gene expression. However, in 22 cases of remission stage patients without PML/RARĪ± fusion gene expression, survivin was expressed in 36%. The survivin mRNA expression positive rate in de novo and relapse groups, and PML/RARĪ± fusion gene L-type positive groups, was obviously higher than those in remission period groups and was significantly lower than those in acute leukemia groups. In 36 cases of de novo and relapse APL patients, all cases could obtain complete remission, irrespective of the survivin expression. APL patients expressed with survivin mRNA had DIC and serious infection (one patient died). The clinical symptom included slight skin or mucosa bleeding, fever, and asthenic for patients without the survivin mRNA expression. Later, two cases of APL patients with the survivin mRNA expression were treated by ATRA, induction differentiation sign in their peripheral blood and bone marrow figure was not obvious. It was concluded that the survive gene expression was lower in APL than those in any other types of leukemia, thus closely associated with clinical manifestation

Optimizing semiconductor devices by self-organizing particle swarm

A self-organizing particle swarm is presented. It works in dissipative state by employing the small inertia weight, according to experimental analysis on a simplified model, which with fast convergence. Then by recognizing and replacing inactive particles according to the process deviation information of device parameters, the fluctuation is introduced so as to driving the irreversible evolution process with better fitness. The testing on benchmark functions and an application example for device optimization with designed fitness function indicates it improves the performance effectively.Comment: Congress on Evolutionary Computation, 2004.
