Neutron Density Distributions of Neutron-Rich Nuclei Studied with the Isobaric Yield Ratio Difference
The isobaric yield ratio difference (IBD) between two reactions of similar
experimental setups is found to be sensitive to nuclear density differences
between projectiles. In this article, the IBD probe is used to study the
density variation in neutron-rich Ca. By adjusting diffuseness in the
neutron density distribution, three different neutron density distributions of
Ca are obtained. The yields of fragments in the 80 MeV Ca
+ C reactions are calculated by using a modified statistical
abrasion-ablation model. It is found that the IBD results obtained from the
prefragments are sensitive to the density distribution of the projectile, while
the IBD results from the final fragments are less sensitive to the density
distribution of the projectile.Comment: 3 figure

Withaferin A induces apoptosis in rat C6 glioma cells through regulating NF-ΚB nuclear translocation and activation of caspase cascade
Background: The demand for the chemopreventive drug from the plant source is increasing in recent times, owing to its various biological activities without any adverse effect. The intention of this current study was to examine the antiglioma effect of Withaferin A (WFA) on C6 glioma cell line model.Materials and Methods: C6 glioma cells were administrated with different concentration of WFA (50, 100, 200 and 500 μg/mL) and DMSO (control) group to examine its anti-proliferative, anti-inflammatory and pro-apoptotic activities. Results: Treatment with WFA showed a significant decline in the glioma cell count in a dose-dependent manner and thus proving its anti-proliferative effect. Similarly, inflammatory markers were also substantially lowered upon treatment with different concentration of WFA. However, DNA fragmentation and apoptotic markers like Caspase-3 and 9 were concomitantly enhanced after co-cultured with different concentration of WFA and thus exhibiting its cytotoxicity efficacy. Furthermore, the protein expression of Bcl2 and Bax were markedly downregulated and upregulated respectively; upon treatment with WFA on C6 glioma cells. Conclusion: The outcome of this study evidently demonstrates that C6 glioma cells co-cultured with increased concentration of WFA, showed an anti-proliferative, anti-inflammatory and pro-apoptotic effect in a dose-dependent fashion. Keywords: Withaferin A, C6 glioma cells, anti-proliferative, anti-inflammatory, caspase, apoptosi
The Interaction between the Bulking Water and Pipe Surface and Their Correlations in Water Distribution System
The pipelines corrosion can result discolor and particle increase in tap water and the complaints from the consumers. It also has the economic and hydraulic impacts for the replacement of broken pipes and fouling of corroded pipes. This paper aimed to investigate the effect of processed drinking water on metal pipe corrosion in water distribution system and the relations between the bulking water quality and pipe corrosion. It was found that there is a close relation between iron corrosion and water quality parameters in water distribution pipelines. It was shown that lower pH and alkalinity can increase the corrosion rate, while higher chlorides and sulfate may cause pitting corrosion. DOC in pipe water would be beneficial for microbial induced corrosion
Geometry and optics calibration of WFCTA prototype telescopes using star light
The Large High Altitude Air Shower Observatory project is proposed to study
high energy gamma ray astronomy ( 40 GeV-1 PeV ) and cosmic ray physics ( 20
TeV-1 EeV ). The wide field of view Cherenkov telescope array, as a component
of the LHAASO project, will be used to study energy spectrum and compositions
of cosmic ray by measuring the total Cherenkov light generated by air showers
and shower maximum depth. Two prototype telescopes have been in operation since
2008. The pointing accuracy of each telescope is crucial to the direction
reconstruction of the primary particles. On the other hand the primary energy
reconstruction relies on the shape of the Cherenkov image on the camera and the
unrecorded photons due to the imperfect connections between photomultiplier
tubes. UV bright stars are used as point-like objects to calibrate the pointing
and to study the optical properties of the camera, the spot size and the
fractions of unrecorded photons in the insensitive areas of the camera.Comment: 5 pages, 6 figures, submitted to Chinese Physics

In the title compound, C16H16N2O4·H2O, the dihedral angle between the two aromatic rings is 19.6 (2)°. In the crystal structure, molecules are linked into a three-dimensional network by intermolecular N—H⋯O, O—H⋯N and O—H⋯O hydrogen bonds
N′-(5-Bromo-2-hydroxy-3-methoxybenzylidene)-4-hydroxy-3-methoxybenzohydrazide dihydrate
In the title compound, C16H15BrN2O5·2H2O, the dihedral angle between the two aromatic rings is 2.9 (2)° and an intramolecular O—H⋯N hydrogen bond is observed. One of the water molecule is disordered over two positions, with occupancies of 0.83 (3) and 0.17 (3). In the crystal structure, molecules are linked into a three-dimensional network by intermolecular O—H⋯O, O—H⋯(O,O), O—H⋯N and N—H⋯O hydrogen bonds. π–π interactions involving Br-substituted benzene rings, with a centroid–centroid distance of 3.552 (3) Å are also observed
