COMPARISON PARADOX, COMPARATIVE SITUATION AND INTER-PARADIGMATICY: A METHODOLOGICAL REFLECTION ON CROSS-CULTURAL PHILOSOPHICAL COMPARISON [abstract]

    Get PDF
It is commonly believed that philosophical comparison depends on having some common measure or standard between and above the compared parts. The paper is to show that the foregoing common belief is incorrect and therewith to inquire into the possibility of cross-cultural philosophical comparison. First, the comparison paradox will be expounded. It is a theoretical difficulty for the philosophical tendency represented by Platos theory of Ideas to justify comparative activities. Further, the connection of the comparative paradox with the obstacles met by cross-cultural philosophical comparisons will be demonstrated. It will be shown that to attribute the difficulty of cross-cultural comparisons to incommensurability of traditions is irrelevant and misleading. It is to be argued that the original possibility of comparison depends on the comparative situation, i.e., the mechanism of meaning-production that functions in a non-universalistic and anonymous way. A philosophical paradigm does facilitate the attendance of such a situation, but it is also possible for the situation to emerge between paradigms in a gamesome way. Accordingly, the genuine comparison at issue will not originate primarily and merely on the level of concepts and propositions, but can only be achieved through inter-paradigmatic conditions, where we have the sharp awareness of a paradigms boundary from which we can attempt to achieve situational communication with another paradigm. In light of this, the perspective of a philosophical comparison differs not only from the traditional or universalistic one, but also from Gadamers hermeneutics, such as the doctrine of fusion of horizons. The new perspective finds an illustration in Heideggers relations with Daoism

Planetary gearboxes performance degradation analysis and prediction

    Get PDF
Gearbox is the core component of various machines and vehicles, so it is necessary to monitor the performance degradation of gearbox for improving the reliability of mechanical equipment and vehicle. The use of the health condition monitoring on core components such as gearbox can reduce the economic losses due to its failure In this paper, some parameters are extracted from data of run-to-failure test, for example, kurtosis, RMS and energy. The performance degradation of the gearbox is analyzed and predicted by the monitoring the parameters. In this paper, some forecasting methods such as ARMA model, moving average line and feed forward neural network are compared by calculate absolute error

Haplo2Ped: a tool using haplotypes as markers for linkage analysis

Abstract

Background

Generally, SNPs are abundant in the genome; however, they display low power in linkage analysis because of their limited heterozygosity. Haplotype markers, on the other hand, which are composed of many SNPs, greatly increase heterozygosity and have superiority in linkage statistics.

Results

Here we developed Haplo2Ped to automatically transform SNP data into haplotype markers and then to compute the logarithm (base 10) of odds (LOD) scores of regional haplotypes that are homozygous within the disease co-segregation haploid group. The results are reported as a hypertext file and a 3D figure to help users to obtain the candidate linkage regions. The hypertext file contains parameters of the disease linked regions, candidate genes, and their links to public databases. The 3D figure clearly displays the linkage signals in each chromosome. We tested Haplo2Ped in a simulated SNP dataset and also applied it to data from a real study. It successfully and accurately located the causative genomic regions. Comparison of Haplo2Ped with other existing software for linkage analysis further indicated the high effectiveness of this software.

Conclusions

Haplo2Ped uses haplotype fragments as mapping markers in whole genome linkage analysis. The advantages of Haplo2Ped over other existing software include straightforward output files, increased accuracy and superior ability to deal with pedigrees showing incomplete penetrance. Inspection period determination for two-stage degraded system

    Get PDF
At present studies on degradation process are mainly single stage degradation mode, however, in practice the system degradation process is generally multi-stage. Based on general degradation process modeling, the paper assumed degenerate distribution of two-stage mode obey various normal distribution, shock times obey Poisson process. Reliability modeling and mean time to failure modeling of two-stage degraded mode are studied. Functional check period determination methods are used to calculate inspection periods for different degradation stage. In numerical example, inspection periods for system with two-stage degradation process are analyzed

Planetary gearbox fault diagnosis based on pseudo-fault signal assisted EMD

    Get PDF
Pseudo-fault signal assisted empirical mode decomposition (PFS-EMD) is put forward for fault detection and isolation, which is built upon EMD, envelope analysis and pseudo-fault signal. And this method has been proved that it is usable in fault diagnosis of simple gear pair. However, this method is still need further study that whether it can be used for fault diagnosis of complex gearbox. Moreover, planetary gearbox fault diagnosis is much more complicated than fixed-axis gearbox. This paper makes a further study of PFS-EMD and focuses on its application. Combining with the seeded failure experimental data of planetary gearbox, this paper show that PFS-EMD can enhance fault information and weaken other useless information in complex gearbox fault diagnosis

Genetic diversity of five goat breeds in China based on microsatellite markers

    Get PDF
The genetic diversity of five goat breeds in China was surveyed using 15 microsatellites. The five goat breeds included Tangshan dairy goat (TSD), Liaoning cashmere goat (LNC), Nanjiang yellow goat (NJY), Chengde polled goat (CDP) and Leizhou black goat (LZB). The mean polymorphism information content value (PIC) of the populations ranged from 0.6606 to 0.8405. The mean heterozygosity (H) of the populations ranged from 0.7936 to 0.8202. The mean number of effective allele (Ne) of the populations ranged from 5.3373 to 5.8812 and the coefficient of genetic differentiation between breeds was 0.0620. It was suggested that the five goat populations have abundant genetic diversity and extensive genetic basis, with limited inbreeding, especially in Leizhou black goat. The unweighted pair-group method with arithmetic averages (UPGMA) dendrogram based on the Nei's standard genetic distance indicated that Tangshan dairy goat, Chengde polled goat and Liaoning cashmere goat breeds / populations clustered together. The Nanjiang yellow goat and Leizhou black goat populations clustered together, consistent with the geographical distribution of goat breeds.Key words: Goat, microsatellite, genetic diversity, clustering

Rolling bearing is essential component of most rotating machinery, fault diagnosis of rolling bearing is significant for enhance the reliability of mechanical device. It is becoming a hot research topic recent years. There are some disadvantages for existing methods, like computing complex, long spending time and so on. In order to overcome these shortcomings of existing methods, this paper present a modified K-means cluster analysis which is used to bearing fault diagnostics. And the data of Case Western Reserve University are used to validate effectiveness of the proposed method
