PENYELIDIKAN FORENSIK PADA KERUSAKAN BANGUNAN PASAR IKAN DI PULAU BELAKANG PADANG, KOTA BATAM, INDONESIA
A deteriorated fish market building situated on Rear Padang Island in Kepulauan Riau Province, Indonesia has raised concerns among the local population. Consequently, it is imperative to assess the extent of the building's damage. To accomplish this, forensic investigations were conducted utilizing visual inspections, field measurements, and non-destructive testing using the Hammer Test. This study aims to outline and summarize the causes of the observed damage. Visual inspections revealed that more than 50% of the column web exhibited significant cracks, approximately 30% of the column's concrete had chipped off, and the steel reinforcement was extensively corroded. The Hammer Test results indicated that the column's strength was below 5 MPA. Based on these findings, it is evident that the building has sustained significant structural damage, necessitating either its demolition or comprehensive restoration and reinforcement. In its current deteriorated state, the building poses a severe risk and requires evacuation for safety reason
Toxic dilatation of the colon in granulomatous colitis
Toxic dilatation of the colon usually occurs in ulcerative colitis, but may also occur in amebic and granulomatous colitis. Two cases of toxic dilatation of the colon in granulomatous colitis are compared to 2 previously reported cases. Toxic dilatation may occur after 7 months or 7 years from the onset of symptoms and may occur on more than one occasion. Granulomatous colitis is more common complication than is generally appreciated.Peer Reviewedhttp://deepblue.lib.umich.edu/bitstream/2027.42/44372/1/10620_2005_Article_BF02232877.pd

Functional mapping of brain synapses by the enriching activity-marker SynaptoZip
Ideally, elucidating the role of specific brain circuits in animal behavior would require the ability to measure activity at all involved synapses, possibly with unrestricted field of view, thus even at those boutons deeply located into the brain. Here, we introduce and validate an efficient scheme reporting synaptic vesicle cycling in vivo. This is based on SynaptoZip, a genetically encoded molecule deploying in the vesicular lumen a bait moiety designed to capture upon exocytosis a labeled alien peptide, Synbond. The resulting signal is cumulative and stores the number of cycling events occurring at individual synapses. Since this functional signal is enduring and measurable both online and ex post, SynaptoZip provides a unique method for the analysis of the history of synaptic activity in regions several millimeters below the brain surface. We show its broad applicability by reporting stimulus-evoked and spontaneous circuit activity in wide cortical fields, in anesthetized and freely moving animals
A Model of Mindful Parenting: Implications for ParentâChild Relationships and Prevention Research
This paper introduces a model of âmindful parentingâ as a framework whereby parents intentionally bring moment-to-moment awareness to the parentâchild relationship. This is done by developing the qualities of listening with full attention when interacting with their children, cultivating emotional awareness and self-regulation in parenting, and bringing compassion and nonjudgmental acceptance to their parenting interactions. First, we briefly outline the theoretical and empirical literature on mindfulness and mindfulness-based interventions. Next, we present an operational definition of mindful parenting as an extension of mindfulness to the social context of parentâchild relationships. We discuss the implications of mindful parenting for the quality of parentâchild relationships, particularly across the transition to adolescence, and we review the literature on the application of mindfulness in parenting interventions. We close with a synopsis of our own efforts to integrate mindfulness-based intervention techniques and mindful parenting into a well-established, evidence-based family prevention program and our recommendations for future research on mindful parenting interventions
Vitalism in contemporary chiropractic: a help or a hinderance?
Background: Chiropractic emerged in 1895 and was promoted as a viable health care substitute in direct competition with the medical profession. This was an era when there was a belief that one cause and one cure for all disease would be discovered. The chiropractic version was a theory that most diseases were caused by subluxated (slightly displaced) vertebrae interfering with ânerve vibrationsâ (a supernatural, vital force) and could be cured by adjusting (repositioning) vertebrae, thereby removing the interference with the bodyâs inherent capacity to heal. DD Palmer, the originator of chiropractic, established chiropractic based on vitalistic principles. Anecdotally, the authors have observed that many chiropractors who overtly claim to be âvitalistsâ cannot define the term. Therefore, we sought the origins of vitalism and to examine its effects on chiropractic today. Discussion: Vitalism arose out of human curiosity around the biggest questions: Where do we come from? What is life? For some, life was derived from an unknown and unknowable vital force. For others, a vital force was a placeholder, a piece of knowledge not yet grasped but attainable. Developments in science have demonstrated there is no longer a need to invoke vitalistic entities as either explanations or hypotheses for biological phenomena. Nevertheless, vitalism remains within chiropractic. In this examination of vitalism within chiropractic we explore the history of vitalism, vitalism within chiropractic and whether a vitalistic ideology is compatible with the legal and ethical requirements for registered health care professionals such as chiropractors. Conclusion: Vitalism has had many meanings throughout the centuries of recorded history. Though only vaguely defined by chiropractors, vitalism, as a representation of supernatural force and therefore an untestable hypothesis, sits at the heart of the divisions within chiropractic and acts as an impediment to chiropractic legitimacy, cultural authority and integration into mainstream health care
Search for lepton-flavor violating decays of the Higgs boson in the mu tau and e tau final states in proton-proton collisions at root s=13 TeV
A search is presented for lepton-flavor violating decays of the Higgs boson to mu t and et. The dataset corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 137 fb(-1) collected at the LHC in proton-proton collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV. No significant excess has been found, and the results are interpreted in terms of upper limits on lepton-flavor violating branching fractions of the Higgs boson. The observed (expected) upper limits on the branching fractions are, respectively, B(H -> mu t) e tau) < 0.22(0.16)% at 95% confidence level.Peer reviewe
Harmful Elements in Estuarine and Coastal Systems
Estuaries and coastal zones are dynamic transitional systems which provide many economic and ecological benefits to humans, but also are an ideal habitat for other organisms as well. These areas are becoming contaminated by various anthropogenic activities due to a quick economic growth and urbanization. This chapter explores the sources, chemical speciation, sediment accumulation and removal mechanisms of the harmful elements in estuarine and coastal seawaters. It also describes the effects of toxic elements on aquatic flora and fauna. Finally, the toxic element pollution of the Venice Lagoon, a transitional water body located in the northeastern part of Italy, is discussed as a case study, by presenting the procedures adopted to measure the extent of the pollution, the impacts on organisms and the restoration activities
A seguir, alguns tĂłpicos importantes mereceram tratamento Ă parte: a fome, o alimento e o domĂnio religioso, as descobertas europĂ©ias e a difusĂŁo mundial de alimentos, gosto e gastronomia. O artigo se encerra com um rĂĄpido balanço crĂtico da historiografia brasileira sobre o tema
