Primary percoutaneous coronary intervention on unprotected left main coronary artery with staged complex bifurcational treatment: A case report
We present the case of patient with ST elevation myocardial infarction in cardiogenic shock with primary percutaneous coronary intervention of Left anterior descending coronary artery and Left main coronary artery with staged complex procedure on Left anterior descending/Diagonal branch bifurcation in Culotte manner. This case shows that “the simpler, the better” approach of only infarct related artery revascularization may be applied in acute patients with cardiogenic shock and optimal clinical and hemodynamic response on revascularization and intra-aortic balloon pump. But, complete revascularization should be done in staged procedure and later, a control coronary angiography with intravascular ultrasound assistance is mandatory
End-of-life vehicle management: a comprehensive review
Waste management is gaining very high importance in recent years. As automotive is one of the most critical sectors worldwide, which is rapidly increasing, the management of end-of-life vehicles (ELVs) gains importance day by day. Due to legislation and new regulations, actors like users, producers, and treatment facilities are being conferred new responsibilities in the ELV management process. Besides, the ELV management is of vital importance for environment conservation, circular economy and sustainable development. All of these reasons are making the ELV management such a crucial issue to study. Today, the ELV management is a well-positioned and emergent research area. However, the available review papers are focused only on a small area of the ELV management, such as reverse logistics, recovery infrastructure, disassemblability, etc. Besides, a review of state-of-the-art mathematical models for the ELV management is still missing. This paper aims to provide an extensive content analysis overview of studies on the ELV management. A total of 232 studies published in the period 2000-2019 are collected, categorized, reviewed and analyzed. A critical review of the published literature is provided. Gaps in the literature are identified to clarify and suggest future research directions. This review can provide a source of references, valuable insights, and opportunities for researchers interested in the ELV management and inspire their additional attention
A Novel Stochastic Optimization Model for Reverse Logistics Network Design of End-of-Life Vehicles:A Case Study of Istanbul
open access articleWaste management is gaining crucial importance as recycling aims at transforming produced waste into value for the economy. As the automotive industry is growing fast worldwide, recycling end-of-life vehicles (ELVs) attracts great research attention. Due to the promulgated regulations, multiple players like the last owners, manufacturers, treatment centres, and municipalities require a more cooperative engagement. The participation of multiple actors in the recycling process of ELVs brings various uncertainties. Additionally, parameters of the recycling process, like the number of vehicles withdrawn per year, cost items, and material composition tend to change due to technological, social, and economic developments. The automotive industry has crucial importance in the Turkish economy, which is highly affected by socio-political and economic issues. Furthermore, the Istanbul metropolitan area has the highest rate of vehicle ownership in Turkey. For that purpose, this paper proposes a scenario-based real-life stochastic optimization model to improve ELV supply chain network management in Istanbul. Sensitivity analyses to changes in scenario occurrence probabilities and changes in the amount of collected ELVs are performed to question the consistency of the study. The results of the mathematical model highlight that the operational cost items have the greatest ratio comparing the other cost items in the model. Furthermore, the results of the sensitivity analysis underline that the operational costs and selling prices of the materials from the ELVs have a significant impact on the profitability of ELVs’ recycling process. In addition, uncertainty in the number of ELVs has a significant effect on both operational and strategical decision-making processes. This research can be extended in the direction of examining the effectiveness of ELV management in Turkey since Istanbul could represent the whole of Turkey with its economic and cultural characteristics. Further works can also try to implement the novel concept of a “socially resilient supply chain” in the ELVs’ management
End-of-life vehicle recycling - A review of the state-of-the-art
Otpadni tok vozila na kraju životnog ciklusa predstavlja važan ekološki problem, zbog količine koja je u stalnom porastu i posebnog sadržaja opasnih tvari. Njegovo recikliranje je stvar državnog stava o potpori očuvanju okoliša i ono se pojavila kao novo područje znanstvenog istraživanja. U ovom radu, predstavljen je sveobuhvatni pregled tema ekološkog inženjerstva, koje su vezane za recikliranje vozila na kraju životnog ciklusa, pokrivanjem značajnog broja recenziranih radova. Cilj ovog preglednog rada je davanje širokog pregleda analize sadržaja radova objavljenih u razdoblju 2003 ÷ 2012. Pored toga, glavna shema klasifikacije i lista raspodjele radova objavljenih u časopisima u promatranom razdoblju kreirane su kako bi njihova primarna odredišta mogla biti identificirana. Konačno, na bazi izvršenog pregleda, nekoliko važnih preporuka o budućem istraživanju je istaknuto i prodiskutirano.End-of-life vehicle (ELV) waste flow is an important environmental concern, because of its rapidly increasing amount and special composition of hazardous substances. Its recycling is a matter of country’s attitude towards supporting the environment preservation and it has emerged as a novel area of scientific research. In this paper, we presented a holistic view of the environmental engineering issues of the ELV recycling by covering a wide range of peer-reviewed journal papers. The purpose of this review paper is to give an extensive content analysis overview of the literature published in the period 2003 ÷ 2012. In addition, the major classification scheme and a distribution list of journal papers published in the considered period are created to identify the primary publication outlets. Finally, on the basis of the performed review, several important recommendations for the future research are highlighted and discussed
Picture fuzzy extension of the CODAS method for multi-criteria vehicle shredding facility location
An emerging question for waste managers is how to determine the best vehicle shredding facility location from a finite set of available alternatives under numerous conflicting criteria as well as high levels of imprecise, vague, and uncertain information. For the first time, we investigate the vehicle shredding facility location problem via the picture fuzzy sets (PFSs), which show a great power in capturing ambiguous, uncertain, and vague information, and mitigating information loss. This paper aims to exploit PFSs and develop a novel picture fuzzy COmbinative Distance-Based ASsessment (CODAS) method for multi-criteria vehicle shredding facility location. The developed method is applied to a real-life case study for locating a new vehicle shredding facility in the Republic of Serbia. The results show that “Bor” is the best alternative among six possible alternative locations. In the decision-making process, four main criteria, such as economical, environmental, social, and technical, and 23 sub-criteria are considered. The robustness of the proposed method is validated by comparing its results with the outcomes of the PFS based TOPSIS, EDAS, TODIM, VIKOR, MABAC, Cross-entropy, Projection, Grey relational projection, and Grey relational analysis methods. The ranking similarity between the proposed picture fuzzy CODAS method and the available state-of-the-art PFS based methods is checked by applying the Spearman's rank correlation coefficient, in which 90% of rankings are matched. The results of the comparative and sensitivity analyses showed that the proposed method generates highly robust outcomes. The formulated picture fuzzy CODAS method can help waste managers to more naturally express their preferences by voting and identify the best facility location. Besides, it can be used to solve any other MCDM problem under the picture fuzzy environment

Coupling fluid and solid domains in modeling drug transport within tumor
Development of a feasible model for transport within complex vasculature network
and tissue remains a challenge. Such a model is particularly important when considering drug
transport within tumor environment. A drug used to cure the cancer is first transported
through blood vessels, then it attaches to the vessel endothelium and faces biological barriers
in the vessel wall to reach cancerous cells.
We have developed a model for convective-diffusive drug transport which is simple and
computationally efficient. One of the challenges was to couple fluid domain within blood
vessels and solid domain of the tumor microenvironment. We have introduced fictitious 1D
finite elements which appropriately take into account transport characteristics of the vessel
walls. These characteristics include leakage and permeability of the walls. In evaluating wall
permeability of a drug, we implemented our hierarchical multiscale methodology which
couples molecular dynamics (MD) and continuum FE model. A numerical homogenization
procedure was employed to obtain equivalent continuum transport parameters which account
for interaction on molecular level between drug and solid components of the wall
microstructure. Also, a possibility of using equivalent continuum transport models for
capillary beds is investigated in order to further simplify and increase efficiency for the
overall model of tumor.
As a numerical example, we calculate transport through a capillary bed to illustrate
applicability of our methodology
Fractional flow reserve of intermediate lesions on collateral donor coronary arteries after myocardial infarction
Fractional flow reserve (FFR) is the gold standard for the functional assessment of coronary arteries. The aim of this study was to evaluate the relation between angiography, QCA and FFR in borderline lesions on collateral donor coronary arteries. In addition, FFR is compared with the angiographic appearance of collaterals to infarction-related arteries and echocardiographically assessed viability of infarct related the LV wall. In 60 patients with previous IM and occluded IRA, functional assessment of borderline coronary stenosis (30-70% DS) on collaterals donor artery was performed. We have not found statistically significant differences in these parameters between groups with different angiographic appearances of collaterals and different viability of distal myocardium. However, we found higher FFR values in diabetic patients (p=0.018). Higher FFR values in diabetic patients reveal the negative effects of diabetes on collateral growth and myocardial viability
COMPUTATIONAL MODELING OF INTRAOCULAR DRUG TRANSPORT
In this work we present computational model for intraocular drug transport using coupled convective-diffusive equations. Model can simulate drug transport using either injection or by state of the art implant devices. We are using Navier-Stokes equation for fluid flow in vitreous humor, and composite smeared finite element (CSFE) for convection in rest of the eye and also for diffusion within the whole model. CSFE takes into account blood vessel properties, such as hydraulic and diffusive components. User interface tool CAD for pre- and post- processing is constructed which enables generation of geometries for patient specific purposes. Computational model provides results in a form convenient for investigation of effects of the drugs on different diseases, such as diabetic macular edema, uveitis, etc. This computational platform has potentials to become a powerful tool for optimization of therapies and simulation of different drugs.Publishe
A NEW CRITERIA IMPORTANCE ASSESSMENT (CIMAS) METHOD IN MULTI-CRITERIA GROUP DECISION-MAKING: CRITERIA EVALUATION FOR SUPPLIER SELECTION
Decision-making is a challenging task for logistics managers when solving the supplier selection problem. It is usually affected by numerous conflicting criteria that are not equally important to all decision-makers. Criteria evaluation is one of the crucial parts here. The primary purpose of this paper is to propose a novel integrated criteria importance assessment method based on objective judgment and group decision-making. The developed method is applied to the criteria importance evaluation for supplier selection. First, we proposed the criteria importance assessment (CIMAS) method based on the expert’s opinion, where the years of experts’ experience were given in the form of an expert’s weight. Second, the obtained criteria weights are further integrated within the well-known CRITIC method, and the hybrid criteria weights are determined. The input data matrix is based on the experts’ criteria evaluation on the one-to-ten-point scale. The data were further analyzed by the novel CIMAS method and were utilized within the CRITIC (objective) method. The paper's main contribution is the proposal of the novel CIMAS method. Another contribution is coupling the subjective (CIMAS) and the objective (CRITIC) methods. The results reveal that the most important criterion for supplier selection is on-time distribution, followed by distribution cost, external image and appearance in public, social responsibility rate, and air pollution, respectively. The sensitivity and comparative analysis were also performed, and the technique confirmed a high level of stability
