    Optimization of Piezo-fibre Composite with IDE Embedded in a Multilayer Glass Fibre Composite

    AbstractThis paper deals with studying the effect of positioning and number of PFC with IDE (PFC-W14) embedded in a multilayer glass fibre composite for energy harvesting. Vacuum Bagging process is used to fabricate eight Multi- layered composite with PFC-W14 embedded inside the specimen at different locations and numbers. The PFC-W14 is positioned at different layers of the composite and number of PFC-W14 is varied in order to study various cases of strain acting on composite. Vibration test for different frequencies were conducted on these eight specimen using electro-dynamic shaker. The generated energy is directly proportional to the strain or voltage generated along the perpendicular axis of the direction of the strain applied, which is collected by the Integrated Digitated Electrodes. The max frequency of vibration at which max voltage is generated by each specimen is observed for different locations and numbers. The results of this study are presented with an eye toward obtaining guidelines for design of useful energy harvesting structures

    Detection of short-period coronal oscillations during the total solar eclipse of 24 october, 1995

    An experiment to search for short-period oscillations in the solar corona was conducted during the total solar eclipse of 1995 October 24 at Kalpi, India. The intensity in the continuum, centred around 5500 Å and with a passband having a half-width of 240 Å, was recorded at a counting rate of 20 Hz using a thermoelectric-liquid cooled photomultiplier. The power-spectrum analysis of the data reveals that most of the power is contained in 6 frequencies below 0.2 Hz. A least-square analysis gives the periods of the 6 frequency components to be 56.5, 19.5, 13.5, 8.0, 6.1, and 5.3 s. These oscillations are found to be sinusoidal, and their amplitudes are found to lie in the range 0.2-1.3% of the coronal brightness. Assuming these oscillations to be fast magnetosonic modes, the calculations indicate the availability of enough flux for the heating of the active regions in the solar corona

    Process optimisation for production and recovery of succinic acid using xylose-rich hydrolysates by Actinobacillus succinogenes

    Succinic acid (SA) is a top platform chemical obtainable from biomass. The current study evaluated the potential of Actinobacillus succinogenes for SA production using xylose-rich hemicellulosic fractions of two important lignocellulosic feedstocks, olive pits (OP) and sugarcane bagasse (SCB) and the results were compared with pure xylose. Initial experiments were conducted in shake flask followed by batch and fed-batch cultivation in bioreactor. Further separation of SA from the fermented broth was carried out by adapting direct crystallisation method. During fed-batch culture, maximum SA titers of 36.7, 33.6, and 28.7 g/L was achieved on pure xylose, OP and SCB hydrolysates, respectively, with same conversion yield of 0.27 g/g. The recovery yield of SA accumulated on pure xylose, OP and SCB hydrolysates was 79.1, 76.5, and 75.2%, respectively. The results obtained are of substantial value and pave the way for development of sustainable SA biomanufacturing in an integrated biorefinery

    SARS-CoV-2 B.1.617.2 Delta variant replication and immune evasion

    Abstract: The B.1.617.2 (Delta) variant of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) was first identified in the state of Maharashtra in late 2020 and spread throughout India, outcompeting pre-existing lineages including B.1.617.1 (Kappa) and B.1.1.7 (Alpha)1. In vitro, B.1.617.2 is sixfold less sensitive to serum neutralizing antibodies from recovered individuals, and eightfold less sensitive to vaccine-elicited antibodies, compared with wild-type Wuhan-1 bearing D614G. Serum neutralizing titres against B.1.617.2 were lower in ChAdOx1 vaccinees than in BNT162b2 vaccinees. B.1.617.2 spike pseudotyped viruses exhibited compromised sensitivity to monoclonal antibodies to the receptor-binding domain and the amino-terminal domain. B.1.617.2 demonstrated higher replication efficiency than B.1.1.7 in both airway organoid and human airway epithelial systems, associated with B.1.617.2 spike being in a predominantly cleaved state compared with B.1.1.7 spike. The B.1.617.2 spike protein was able to mediate highly efficient syncytium formation that was less sensitive to inhibition by neutralizing antibody, compared with that of wild-type spike. We also observed that B.1.617.2 had higher replication and spike-mediated entry than B.1.617.1, potentially explaining the B.1.617.2 dominance. In an analysis of more than 130 SARS-CoV-2-infected health care workers across three centres in India during a period of mixed lineage circulation, we observed reduced ChAdOx1 vaccine effectiveness against B.1.617.2 relative to non-B.1.617.2, with the caveat of possible residual confounding. Compromised vaccine efficacy against the highly fit and immune-evasive B.1.617.2 Delta variant warrants continued infection control measures in the post-vaccination era

    Most of the crop plants contain about 30% of hemicelluloses comprising D-xylose and D-arabinose. One of the major limitation for the use of pentose sugars is that high purity grade D-xylose and D-arabinose are yet to be produced as commodity chemicals. Research and developmental activities are going on in this direction for their use as platform intermediates through economically viable strategies. During chemical pretreatment of biomass, the pentose sugars were generated in the liquid stream along with other compounds. This contains glucose, proteins, phenolic compounds, minerals and acids other than pentose sugars. Arabinose is present in small amounts, which can be used for the economic production of value added compound, xylitol. The present review discusses the recent trends and developments as well as challenges and opportunities in the utilization of pentose sugars generated from lignocellulosic biomass for the production of value added compounds

    Tamil Nadu Agricultural University Proteome DataBase (TNAU PDB) – Black gram proteome is an open accessible database that focuses on proteome of Black gram (Vigna mungo L.). Currently, the database contains reference maps of Two-Dimensional Polyacrylamide Gel Electrophoresis (2D-PAGE) of proteins obtained from artificially aged black gram seeds of variety TNAU blackgram CO 6, which is compared to that of fresh seeds. The database provides information about experimentally identified properties, such as molecular weight, pI value, of the differentially expressed protein due to accelerated ageing and protein sequences obtained using MALDI-TOF mass spectrometry. This database runs on WAMP server with HTML as the front end and MySQL as the backend using PHP as interface and it is hosted in TNAU genomics domain. The basic intention of this database is to provide the detailed information about proteome of black gram. This will help us to understand adaptive and general protective mechanism related to seed aging and effect of ageing on germination
