The Economics of Love

In this thesis I argue that the obligation to love based on the Christian tradition requires Christians to disperse their resources in a way that significantly evens out wealth distribution and increases social justice. Christians disagree on the terminology and some tenets of the goal of the Christian life (e.g., deification, beatific vision, communion with God, salvation). However, the requirement to practice love is common to all of these concepts, thus making love normative for Christians. I argue that when love takes such a prominent role in one’s life, then it naturally influences how one manages one’s resources. If love affects how one handles one’s resources, then an outgrowth of love is more balanced distribution of wealth and increased social justice

A relevância dos exercícios físicos para indivíduos de 30 a 50 anos de ambos os sexos portadores da Síndrome da Imunodeficiência Adquirida (HIV/AIDS) com Lipodistrofia causada pelo uso de anti-retrovirais

Introdução: Neste estudo será apresentado experimento sobre um programa de atividades físicas para diminuir os efeitos metabólicos da lipodistrofia, causada pela prescrição dos anti-retrovirais, medicamentos utilizados por portadores pelo vírus HIV\AIDIS. Objetivo: Investigar os benefícios dos exercícios físicos para indivíduos portadores do HIV\AIDS e combatendo doenças causadas pela lipodistrofia proveniente da terapia com anti-retrovirais. Metodologia: Foram 40 sujeitos divididos em grupo de exercício e grupo de controle. Os sujeitos participaram de palestra, exames e testes, tendo o grupo de exercício participado num programa de exército com duração de 24 semanas. As variáveis estudadas foram composição corporal, parâmetros bioquímicos e hemodinâmicos, e aptidão física e o questionário CEAT-VIH, versão em português do Brasil. Resultados: O programa de exercício apresentado foi positivo na composição corporal, parâmetros bioquímicos e hemodinâmicos e no questionário, CEAT-VIH, versão em português do Brasil. Na aptidão física o programa de exercício não obteve a resposta que esperávamos. Conclusão: O programa de exercício aplicado permitiu obter uma redução na massa corporal, IMC, glicose e colesterol, e melhoria ao nível da flexibilidade. Permitiu igualmente aumentar o cumprimento do seguimento da farmacologia prescrita pelos médicos; The Relevance of Physical Exercises for Individuals 30 to 50 years of Both Sexes Bearers of Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome (HIV \ AIDS) with Lipodystrophy Caused by the use of Anti-Retroviral. Summary: Introduction: In this study will be presented experiment on a physical activity program to decrease the metabolic effects of lipodystrophy, caused by the prescription of anti-retroviral drugs used by patients with HIV \ AIDIS. Objective: To investigate the benefits of exercise for people living with HIV subjects \ AIDS and combating diseases caused by lipodystrophy from therapy with antiretrovirals. Methods: 40 subjects were divided into exercise group and control group. The subjects participated in lecture, exams and tests, and the exercise group participated in an army program of 24 weeks duration. The variables studied were body composition, biochemical and hemodynamic parameters, and physical fitness and the CEAT-HIV questionnaire, version in Portuguese of Brazil. Results: The submitted exercise program was positive in body composition, biochemical and hemodynamic parameters and questionnaire, CEAT-HIV, version in Portuguese of Brazil. Physical fitness exercise program did not get the answer we expected. Conclusion: The applied exercise program yielded a reduction in body weight, body mass index, glucose and cholesterol, and improved level of flexibility. It has also increase compliance of following the prescribed pharmacology by doctors

Implementing an Android Tool for Visually Impaired Students of E-Learning

This article aims to describe the process of learning and development of an educational tool designed for mobile devices (smartphones) with Android technology. In summary, the application was developed based on the virtual learning environment Moodle and aims to develop a learning environment that supports the visually impaired students of e-learning, allowing them to ask questions, discuss and share ideas through forums and use chat rooms in real time. The fundamental purpose of this application is to cooperate with scientific knowledge in the sense that this is a representation of technological advance on the accessibility tools in distance education mode and provide comfort, flexibility and accessibility for the visually impaired students, realizing that education should always be inclusive

Electromagnetic procedures to support main components design of synchronous machines

Synchronous generators have proven over the decades to be the feasible solution for three-phase power systems and have consolidated as the vital piece in power plants in which the source of energy is renewable, as hydraulic or wind. Thus, with a constant increase in environmental concerns in current times, it is also expected an increase in synchronous machine usage, along with more research and development. A challenge would be to integrate the traditional consolidated knowledge with modern computational tools. Since when it comes to electrical machines, there is more than one procedure or technique to solve the same question, many combinations of new algorithms and books from a century ago have yet space to be approached. This work proposes and develops a set of tools to allow the analysis of magnetics effects in a salient pole machine with general, accurate, and fast solutions, applying what has been taught for the first “machinerists”, as Tingley and Park, alongside with MATLAB and Finite Element Method. Its objectives are to get Magnetomotive Force and Magnetic Flux Density of a given machine so then, in future work, to calculate the inductance matrix. MMF is calculated through Tingley Box, Winding Matrix, and Fourier Series, allowing the analysis for every single turn. Flux density is calculated through Finite Element Analysis, which allows the calculation of enclosure factors that support the accuracy of the tool by comparing it with manufacturers' benchmarks. In the end, a guide in MATLAB is shown, which aggregates everything exposed with a user-friendly interface.Os geradores síncronos provaram ao longo das décadas ser a solução viável para sistemas elétricos trifásicos e se consolidaram como peça vital em usinas em que a fonte de energia é renovável, como hidráulica ou eólica. Assim, com um aumento constante das preocupações ambientais nos tempos atuais, também se espera um aumento no uso de máquinas síncronas, juntamente com mais pesquisa e desenvolvimento. Um desafio seria integrar o conhecimento tradicional consolidado com ferramentas computacionais modernas. Já que, quando se trata de máquinas elétricas, existe mais de um procedimento ou técnica para resolver a mesma questão, muitas combinações de novos algoritmos e livros de um século atrás ainda têm espaço para serem abordadas. Este trabalho propõe e desenvolve um conjunto de ferramentas para permitir a análise de efeitos magnéticos em uma máquina de pólo saliente com soluções gerais, precisas e rápidas, aplicando o que foi ensinado pelos primeiros “maquinistas”, como Tingley e Park, ao lado do MATLAB e Método dos Elementos Finitos. Seus objetivos são obter a Força Magnetomotriz e a Densidade do Fluxo Magnético de uma determinada máquina para então, em trabalhos futuros, calcular a matriz de indutância. O MMF é calculado por meio de Tingley Box, Matriz de enrolamento e Série de Fourier, permitindo a análise para cada curva. A densidade do fluxo é calculada por meio da Análise de Elementos Finitos, que permite o cálculo dos fatores de invólucro que suportam a precisão da ferramenta, comparando-a com os benchmarks dos fabricantes. Ao final, é apresentado um guia em MATLAB, que agrega tudo o que está exposto em uma interface amigável
