Securitization: Open research agendas for the study of security

En poco más de una década y media de recorrido, la teoría de la securitización impulsada por la Escuela de Copenhague se ha asentado en los Estudios Internacionales de Seguridad y las Relaciones Internacionales en general, dando pie a un intenso debate con importantes implicaciones ontológicas y epistemológicas, al mismo tiempo que ha abierto nuevas agendas de investigación. Tras exponer en qué contexto emerge esta teoría, este trabajo pretende en un primer momento revisar los postulados originales del enfoque de la securitización y, a la luz de las distintas críticas que han aflorado en estos años, revisar las agendas de investigación actuales y sintetizarlas en torno a cinco ejes, con vistas a dinamizar la discusión en torno a este enfoque teórico en la comunidad académica, especialmente en la hispanoparlanteIn little more than a decade, the securitization theory initially pushed forward by the Copenhagen School has secured a place within International Security Studies and in International Relations at large. Over the years, ontological and epistemological questions have been object of in-depth discussion in our field of study, as a consequence of which new research agendas have arisen. The paper begins by reviewing the context in which securitization theory comes to the fore, thereby paving the way for the presentation of its original framework of analysis. Bearing in mind the various critiques and revisions that have dealt with the theory, this paper proposes a research agenda organized around five key issues. The goal ultimately is to put new energy into debates around this theoretical framework, which might be of particular interest for the Spanish-speaking academic communit

The IDB's Integration & Trade Journal includes articles on the different aspects of integration in Latin America and the Caribbean, on hemispheric integration and, furthermore, on similar processes in other parts of the world. The aim is to address the topics included herein from a remarkably conceptual viewpoint, adding information to the knowledge of the topics, ensuring that they are useful for those responsible for adopting governmental policies in the region as well as for those integration scheme bodies in the fields of integration, cooperation and international trade.
