The revenues of local governments in the statistical register for public administrations: inequality decomposition by sources

During the last decade, the Italian national institute of statistics (Istat) has been engaged in a modernization program involving the revision of the statistical production model. The main goal behind this program is the use of statistical registers integrated into a single logical environment, the Italian Integrated System of Statistical Registers (ISSR), for supporting the consistency of statistical production processes and improving the quality of information for users. One object of the ISSR is the satellite statistical REgister for Public Administrations (REPA) that contains information on structural and economic variables on a subset of the Italian PA. The public institutions are different from each other in structures, dimensions, and scopes. In the present paper, these differences are analysed by looking at their revenues. For this aim, the inequality in the revenues, measured with the Gini index, is decomposed “by sources”

Analysis of accounting data from the explanatory notes to the financial statements for the estimation of the enterprises investments

The Italian national institute of statistics (Istat) produces estimates on the main economic variables of enterprises, both from a Structural Business Statistics (SBS) and a National Accounts (NA) perspective. The two production processes present similarities and discrepancies. As far the production process of estimates on “acquisitions of fixed assets” during the year, also known as “enterprise investments”, both SBS and NA processes use survey data, but only NA process also uses administrative information. The aim of the present work is to evaluate the content of the information on Investments, at the level of the legal unit, from the administrative source of the Explanatory Notes, beside the administrative sources already used in Istat processes. This work represents an exploratory and study phase to evaluate the usability of this source in the production processes of Investments of both SBS and NA

La violenza nel corso delle relazioni di fidanzamento costituisce un grave problema che incide sulla salute fisica e mentale degli adolescenti. Le condotte violente nelle unioni non formali non sono concepite come tali né dalle vittime, né dagli aggressori ed in generale si confondono maltrattamento ed offese con amore ed interesse per il partner. La presente ricerca, interna ad un più ampio progetto di ricerca, condotto all’interno del Laboratorio di epistemologia e pratiche dell’educazione, ha avuto come obiettivo l’analisi della presenza e del livello di maltrattamento fisico, psicologico, sessuale ed economico presente nella relazione di fidanzamento di studentesse universitarie iscritte alla Facoltà di Psicologia dell’Università degli Studi di Napoli Federico II, al fine di individuare possibili strategie di intervento in prospettiva educativa

Reverse engineering of mandible and prosthetic framework: Effect of titanium implants in conjunction with titanium milled full arch bridge prostheses on the biomechanics of the mandible.

This study aimed at investigating the effects of titanium implants and different configurations of full-arch prostheses on the biomechanics of edentulous mandibles. Reverse engineered, composite, anisotropic, edentulous mandibles made of a poly(methylmethacrylate) core and a glass fibre reinforced outer shell were rapid prototyped and instrumented with strain gauges. Brånemark implants RP platforms in conjunction with titanium Procera one-piece or two-piece bridges were used to simulate oral rehabilitations. A lateral load through the gonion regions was used to test the biomechanical effects of the rehabilitations. In addition, strains due to misfit of the one-piece titanium bridge were compared to those produced by one-piece cast gold bridges. Milled titanium bridges had a better fit than cast gold bridges. The stress distribution in mandibular bone rehabilitated with a one-piece bridge was more perturbed than that observed with a two-piece bridge. In particular the former induced a stress concentration and stress shielding in the molar and symphysis regions, while for the latter design these stresses were strongly reduced. In conclusion, prosthetic frameworks changed the biomechanics of the mandible as a result of both their design and manufacturing technology

CMF vs alternating CMF/EV in the adjuvant treatment of operable breast cancer. A single centre randomised clinical trial (Naples GUN-3 study).

The aim of this study was to test the hypothesis of Goldie and Coldman that the use of non-cross-resistant regimens of chemotherapy could lead to maximal anti-tumour effect. We compared standard CMF (cyclophosphamide, methotrexate, fluorouracil) with alternating CMF/EV (epirubicin, vincristine) in the adjuvant therapy of early breast cancer. Stage II premenopausal node-positive or post-menopausal node-positive oestrogen receptor-negative and stage III breast cancer patients were eligible for the study. From January 1985 to December 1990, 220 patients were randomised (115 to CMF and 105 to CMF/EV). Toxicity was mild; neurotoxicity, vomiting and hair loss were more frequent in the CMF/EV group, while permanent amenorrhoea, diarrhoea, stomach ache and minor infections occurred more often in the CMF arm. At a follow-up of 48 months, 113 patients (51.4%) had had recurrence (62 on CMF and 51 on CMF/EV) and 54 (24.5%) had died (30 on CMF and 24 on CMF/EV). There was no significant difference in disease-free and overall survival between the two arms. After adjusting for menopausal status and stage, the relative risk (RR) of recurrence for CMF/EV patients was 0.93 (95% CL 0.64-1.35), while the RR of death was 0.85 (95% CL 0.49-1.47). In conclusion, the Goldie-Coldman model of alternating therapy is not confirmed in this trial of adjuvant therapy of early breast cancer, although in view of its design a difference of less than 20% in 3 year disease-free survival could not be excluded

Rilevazione sui consumi finali di prodotti energetici delle imprese

Nella pubblicazione viene descritta la metodologia e vengono riportati i risultati dell'indagine campionaria sui consumi di prodotti energetici delle imprese industriali e del terziario (CoEn), realizzata da Istat ed ENEA. Il lavoro si origina da una collaborazione tra ENEA e Ministero dello Sviluppo Economico e da un successivo accordo tra ENEA ed Istat: tale cooperazione è stata finalizzata al rafforzamento del sistema delle statistiche energetiche nazionali, necessario al policy making e promosso dall'Unione Europea, che ha rappresentato il riferimento normativo delle attività svolte. Si ritiene utile trasferire metodologia ed esiti di questa esperienza di lavoro congiunto tra soggetti istituzionali, da considerarsi quale primo passo verso l'evoluzione del sistema statistico energetico nazionale

The Synthetic Potential of Fungal Feruloyl Esterases : A Correlation with Current Classification Systems and Predicted Structural Properties

Twenty-eight fungal feruloyl esterases (FAEs) were evaluated for their synthetic abilities in a ternary system of n-hexane: t-butanol: 100 mM MOPS-NaOH pH 6.0 forming detergentless microemulsions. Five main derivatives were synthesized, namely prenyl ferulate, prenyl caffeate, butyl ferulate, glyceryl ferulate, and l-arabinose ferulate, offering, in general, higher yields when more hydrophilic alcohol substitutions were used. Acetyl xylan esterase-related FAEs belonging to phylogenetic subfamilies (SF) 5 and 6 showed increased synthetic yields among tested enzymes. In particular, it was shown that FAEs belonging to SF6 generally transesterified aliphatic alcohols more efficiently while SF5 members preferred bulkier l-arabinose. Predicted surface properties and structural characteristics were correlated with the synthetic potential of selected tannase-related, acetyl-xylan-related, and lipase-related FAEs (SF1-2, -6, -7 members) based on homology modeling and small molecular docking simulations.Peer reviewe
