To elucidate whether a G-protein and/or a protein tyrosine kinase (PTK) are involved in signal transduction leading to the production of such a defensive response, we studied the HR in this plant system after treatment with G-protein activators alone and PTK inhibitors in the presence of fungal conidia. No changes in the level of IP3 were detected in response to the treatment with the G-protein activators cholera toxin or mastoparan, although the HR was observed in response to these compounds as determined by the scoparone synthesis. On the contrary, the PTK inhibitors lavendustin A and 2,5-dihidroxy methyl cinnamate (DHMC) not only prevented the IP3 changes observed in response to the fungal inoculation of lemon seedlings but also blocked the development of the HR. These results suggest that the IP3 changes observed in response to A. alternata require a PTK activity and are the result of a G-protein independent Phospholipase C activity, even though the activation of a G-protein can also lead to the development of a HR. Therefore, it appears that more than one signaling pathway may be activated for the development of HR in lemon seedlings: one involving a G-protein and the other involving a PTK-dependent PLC

Global variations in diabetes mellitus based on fasting glucose and haemogloblin A1c

Fasting plasma glucose (FPG) and haemoglobin A1c (HbA1c) are both used to diagnose diabetes, but may identify different people as having diabetes. We used data from 117 population-based studies and quantified, in different world regions, the prevalence of diagnosed diabetes, and whether those who were previously undiagnosed and detected as having diabetes in survey screening had elevated FPG, HbA1c, or both. We developed prediction equations for estimating the probability that a person without previously diagnosed diabetes, and at a specific level of FPG, had elevated HbA1c, and vice versa. The age-standardised proportion of diabetes that was previously undiagnosed, and detected in survey screening, ranged from 30% in the high-income western region to 66% in south Asia. Among those with screen-detected diabetes with either test, the agestandardised proportion who had elevated levels of both FPG and HbA1c was 29-39% across regions; the remainder had discordant elevation of FPG or HbA1c. In most low- and middle-income regions, isolated elevated HbA1c more common than isolated elevated FPG. In these regions, the use of FPG alone may delay diabetes diagnosis and underestimate diabetes prevalence. Our prediction equations help allocate finite resources for measuring HbA1c to reduce the global gap in diabetes diagnosis and surveillance.peer-reviewe

The Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) is not a new issue but now it has become a business strategy that enables companies to improve their internal and external benefits more because they have more credibility and more with sustainable projects for the community and factors such as the environment, customers and others. This research seeks to raise awareness about the business as the companies if they can be socially responsible by publicizing initially theoretical foundations of the subject and then conducting an analysis to three multinationals with a presence in Colombia and other countries simultaneously Latin America, as are Unilever, Telefónica and Coca Cola. These specific cases in his diagnosis let see in one way or another and through the commitments they have made these companies, sustainable projects that have been developed to have improved its internal aspects of the community who need these solutions show interest generating results that are given by the management that defines the ethics of the same company. This allows seeing how these events can preserve the environmental and cultural resources for future generations, respecting diversity and promoting the reduction of social inequalities

Abstract: A study of the structural, morphological, magnetic and optic properties of the Sr2HoRuO6 perovskite has been performed. Rietlved analysis from x-ray diffraction patterns revealed that this oxide material crystallizes in a monoclinic perovskite structure, P21/n (# 14) space group, with lattice parameters a=5.7719 Å, b=5.8754 Å, c=8.1651 Å and angle β=90.034°. The morphological characterization by Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) shows an uniform surface topography with strongly interconnected grains of similar size (D ≈ 0.74 μm), which vary in shape and orientation. Semi-quantitative analysis of the composition was performed by Electron Energy Dispersion Spectra (EDX), from which it can be established that the composition of the samples is 99% in accordance with the expected stoichiometric composition. Curves of magnetic susceptibility as a function of temperature revealed the ferrimagnetic feature of this material with Néel temperature TN=14 K. Through the Curie-Weiss magnetic susceptibility adjustment the effective magnetic moment was determined to be 11.36 μB. This value is in agreement with that expected from the Hund’s rules (11.28 μB). The diffuse reflectance spectrum suggests that this material behaves as a semiconductor with Eg=1.38 eV, which is in accordance with results of band structure and density of states calculations performed as an additional part for the publication of this work in a scientific journal.Maestrí
