A twenty year retrospective on the forest carbon dynamics in Russia

    No full text
A regional forest carbon budget accounting technique based on carbon pools balance with incomes from growing woodstocks and losses from harvesting, fires and other disturbances have been developed. Forest carbon budgets of the Russian administrative units during 1988–2009 have been accounted. The carbon sink to Russian forests have increased from 80 Mt C × yr−1 in 1988 to 230–240 Mt C × yr−1 in late 2000s. This tendency is explained with the decline in harvesting, which have started in 1990s. European part of Russia was found to have higher areally averaged carbon sink compared with the Asian part. It have been associated with peculiar ways of wildfires governance in these two parts

Influence of the γ-Radiation on the Generation Characteristics of the YAlO_{3}:Nd Crystals

    No full text
The results of investigation of the influence of γ-radiation by 60\text{}^{60}Co-source on the YAlO3\text{}_{3}:Nd laser generation characteristics are presented in this paper. The significant decrease in the output energy after γ-irradiation was obtained. The energetic characteristics are restored after illumination of the γ-irradiated laser rods by 1000-10000 pulses of the pumping lamp light. The additional absorption spectrum is induced by γ-irradiation in the crystals. The nature of the created in this way colour centres is discussed. The mechanism of influence of the colour centres on generation properties of the crystals is discussed

Magnetic field measurements on PF - 1000 and PF - 3 facilities: current sheath structure and neutron scaling

    No full text
The comparative analysis of the magnetic field distribution, the dynamics and structure of the plasma current sheath, and the neutron yield scaling in two largest plasma focus facilities, PF-3 and PF-1000 is done. The power-low dependence of the neutron yield on the current in the imploding plasma sheath has been demonstrated experimentally. For the first time the presence of the Bz magnetic field components is experimentally shown
