Puutarhatoimintaa palvelumuotoilun keinoin : Yhteiskehittäminen mielenterveysyksikössä

Opinnäytetyön tavoitteena oli kehittää yhteistoiminnallista ja kuntouttavaa puutarhatoimintaa siten, että hoitokodin mielenterveysasiakkaat olivat osallisina suunnittelemassa terveyttään ja hyvinvointiaan tukevaa ympäristöä. Opinnäytetyön tarkoituksena oli suunnitella myöhemmin rakennettava hoitokodin piha-alueen viherympäristö ja toimintamalli sen käyttöön. Ympäristö muodostuu puutarhasta, peli- ja oleskelualueista sekä kasvihuoneesta. Opinnäytetyön toimeksiantaja, Lapinjärven Hoitokoti, halusi vastata konkreettisilla kuntoutusinterventioilla sosiaali- ja terveysalan muutokseen, jolla voi parantaa ja monimuotoistaa mielenterveysasiakkaiden kuntoutuspalveluiden arjen kulttuuria. Palvelumuotoilu valikoitui toimintamallin kehittämisen välineeksi. Palvelumuotoilu muodostui kolmesta peruskäsitteestä; asiakaskokemus, palvelupolku sekä sen kontaktipisteet asiakkaan toimiessa palvelun keskiössä. Mielenterveysasiakkaat palvelun loppukäyttäjinä osallistuivat yhdessä henkilökunnan kanssa kuntoutumisensa kehittämiseen keräten tietoa palvelusta, jota he kuvasivat palvelukokemuksinaan. Palvelumuotoiluprosessi säästi organisaation voimavaroja ja vapautti resursseja luovaan työhön. Palvelumuotoilun vaiheista toteutettiin määrittely-, tutkimus- ja suunnitteluvaihe. Työpajatyöskentely tapahtui vuodenkierron mukaisesti. Asiakkaat ja henkilökunta rakensivat tarpeittensa ja hiljaisten toiveittensa mukaan piha- ja puutarhasuunnitelmaa. Asiakasymmärryksen lisääntyessä löydettiin kohderyhmälle merkityksellisiä sisältöjä kuten luonnon arvon korostuminen kuntoutumisen voimana. Opinnäytetyön tuotos muodostui työpajojen aineiston laadullisesta analyysistä, josta jokaisesta nousi kolme luokkaa. Näistä kaksi käsitteli materiaalisia ja kolmas immateriaalisia seikkoja, kuten ilo, hyvinvointi, tunnelma ja nautinto. Immateriaalisia asiakkaiden toiveita tulisikin ottaa huomioon entistä paremmin mielenterveyskuntoutustyössä. Henkilökunnan kuntoutustyön arjen työ kaipaa tukea ja jatkokoulutusta puutarhatoiminnan käyttöönottoon ja edelleen sen kehittämiseen. Lapinjärven Hoitokoti jatkaa toimintamallin kehittämistä suunnitteluvaiheen prototypoinnista lähtien.This thesis aims to develop collaborative and rehabilitative gardening through involving the mental health clients of a care home in designing an environment that supports their health and wellbeing. The goal of the thesis was to design a green environment to be later built on the grounds of the care home and to create a procedure to be employed in the process. The environment comprises a garden, game and communal areas and a greenhouse. The commissioner of the thesis, Lapinjärvi Service Home, wanted to respond to the changes in the social and health care field with concrete rehabilitation interventions aimed at improving and expanding the everyday experience of mental health consumers receiving rehabilitation services. Service design was chosen as the method for developing operation model. Service design consists of three basic concepts; customer experience, customer journey and service touchpoints, the customer in the centre. As the end users of the service, the mental health clients participated together with the staff in developing their rehabilitation service. They amassed information on the service, which they described as their service experiences. The service design process saved the resources of the organisation and freed resources for creative activities. The service design phases carried out were the definition, research and design phases. The workshops were conducted seasonally. The clients and the staff drafted plans for an outdoor area and a garden following their needs and wishes. As consumer understanding grew meanings relevant to the target group were identified, including an emphasis on the role of nature in rehabilitation. The output of the thesis is a qualitative analysis of the workshop data. Three categories emerged from each workshop, two of which focused on material factors and the third on immaterial factors such as joy, wellbeing, atmosphere and pleasure. The clients’ immaterial wishes should therefore be given more attention in mental health rehabilitation. Furthermore, the staff require support in their everyday work and additional training to implement and further develop rehabilitative gardening.
