An Exploration of the Relationship Between Technostress, Employee Engagement and Job Design from the Nigerian Banking Employee’s Perspective
The introduction of technology in the banking sector has induced benefits to this sector. ICTs has facilitated the delivery of efficient and reliable banking services. Despite all the benefits associated with the use of technology, organizational researchers have argued that technology is a double-edged sword because its ability to induce stress in its users, this kind of anxiety is technostress, a strain that is caused by the lack of knowledge of individuals to cope and adapt to the use of technologies. The increasing use of technologies has resulted in work-family conflict, role-overload, work-overload, and multi-tasking. Additionally, technologies have resulted in consistent task reengineering, which has created knowledge gaps for employees. Past studies on technostress have demonstrated that can affect employees, performances, organizational commitment, and job satisfaction. However, the association of technostress with employee engagement and job design has not been established. Hence, the objective of this current study is to explore the association of job design with technostress and employee and the impact of technostress on employee engagement. Using a purposive sampling method, a total of 319 Participants were recruited from front desk employees of the Nigerian commercial banks and data has been analyzed using smart PLS. The findings of the study show a significant positive relationship between job design and technostress and positive relationship between technostress and employee engagement contrary to the negative relationship proposed based on the stress and engagement literature is an indication that job design alone may not reduce the impact of technostress if other organizational-stressors are not addressed. While technostress does not reduce employee engagement instead a moderate level of stress can serve as a motivator, but extreme stress can have a damaging impact on employees and the organization. Equally, the study also found a positive association between job design and employee engagement, while technostress has a mediating effect on job design and employee engagement
The role of toxic leadership and perceived organizational support on academic staff’s psychological distress
This study examines the impact of toxic leadership on academic staff’s psychological distress in the Malaysian context. Also, the moderating role of perceived organizational support is explored. A questionnaire was utilized to gather the data (n=450) for this research. The multistage sampling technique combines cluster sampling and a simple random sampling involving academic staff from a public university in Malaysia. The SMART PLS-SEM version 3.2.7. was used to analyze the data. Based on the structural model's standardized path coefficients from the PLS results, toxic leadership profoundly influenced employees' psychological distress. However, perceived organizational support was an insignificant moderator of the impact between toxic leadership and psychological distress. The empirical research findings address the gap in the overall body of literature regarding Toxic Leadership Theory, such as the psychological distress and perceived organizational support. Hence, it provides an insight into toxic leadership study that has a few examined in previous research. Toxic leadership phenomenon can be used by the organization to better understand the dark side of leadership style, improve employee knowledge about toxic leadership and emotional coping strategy. Successful preventing toxic leadership is seen as an advantage for organizations that can promote a healthy work environment and a quality leader
The mediation role of innovation on the relationship between strategic leadership styles and organizational performance; a conceptual framework
Although the determinants of organizational performance have received much attention, which is due to the essential role of performance maximization to the organization, there are still undiscovered determinants that predict organizational performance improvement. This paper proposes a conceptual framework that nominates the strategic leadership style dimensions as making strategic decisions, engaging with external stakeholders, performing human resource management activities, motivating and influencing, managing information, overseeing operation and administration, managing social and ethical issues, managing conflicting demands, which affect the organizational performance through the innovation mediation
A bibliometric analysis of psychological contract literature: current status, advancements and future research trends
In the current competitive and dynamic environment, employees' psychological contract is an important psychological factor through which organizations can achieve competitive advantage. Numerous studies have shown that psychological contract is a significant predictor of various organizational outcomes. Despite the growing interest in exploring the psychological contract aspects among scholars, review articles and thorough analysis have been limited. The present study fills in this gap by identifying and evaluating the research development of psychological contract topic. Using 1333 journal articles from the Elsevier Scopus database published between 1973-2019, a bibliometric analysis was employed to assess the patterns of global psychological contract research based on the number of publications, co-authorship analysis amongst affiliated countries and authors, and co-occurrence of author keywords. The results revealed that the number of publications increased every year; subsequently, cumulative total publications also steadily increases till the present time. The current research findings show that researchers from the United States, United Kingdom, Australia, and China contributed about 61% of worldwide publications, leading the other 64 countries/territories. Moreover, four of the world's top 100 universities were among the most productive universities in each of the ten leading countries selected for the analysis. By providing a detailed overview of the research studies in the area of psychological contract, this study highlights the insights and directions for the future researchers, practitioners, academicians, and scholars in related business, management, social sciences, and psychology fields
The Research on Organizational Justice in Scopus Indexed Journals: A Bibliometric Analysis of Seven Decades
The organizational justice terminology has had a long journey to become one of the significant contributors to organizational success. Recently, an intense global upsurge in the use of organizational justice terms in publications has forced us for this bibliometric analysis in order to look at the overall publications on organizational justice. The objective of the current research is to advance knowledge about organizational justice research trends using Scopus database and bibliometric analysis research. The analysis was performed to see the publication trends between the years 1941 and 2018; it used authors, journals, countries, academic discipline, research institutes/universities, and various keywords related to organizational justice as search words. After careful consideration and using multiple checkpoints for eliminating irrelevant studies, 5,650 research articles were analyzed. In the realm of organizational justice, procedural justice was the most frequently occurred among other dimensions. Moreover, variables such as organizational trust, job satisfaction, organizational commitment, citizenship behavior, ethics, and turnover are major concepts that occurred within organizational justice research. Some variables with infrequent occurrences, along with future recommendations and study limitations, are also discussed
Determining the utility in management by using multi-criteria decision support tools: a review
The multiple criteria decision-making (MCDM) utility-determining
techniques are considered to be new development techniques that
have been recently presented, extended and used by some scholars.
In the current work, an attempt is made to present a systematic
review of methodologies and applications of the MCDM utilitydetermining
techniques discussed in recent years. The researchers
reviewed 86 papers, describing the use of the MCDM utility-determining
techniques, which were published in the period 2004–2015
in more than 42 scientific journals. They mainly refer to the area of
management and are extracted from online databases, such as
Web of Science, Scopus and Google Scholar. According to the classification
used by the researchers, the papers were grouped based
on the five main MCDM utility-determining techniques, including
stepwise weight assessment ratio analysis (SWARA), the weighted
aggregated sum product assessment (WASPAS), the additive ratio
assessment (ARAS), the method of complex proportional assessment
(COPRAS), multi-objective optimisation by ratio analysis
(MOORA) and MULTIMOORA (MOORA plus a full multiplicative
form). Furthermore, the papers were categorised taking into
account their authors, publication date, journal name, the technique
and method used, research objectives, research gap and
problem, solution and modelling and, finally, the results and findings.
The results of this study show that, in 2013, scholars published
more papers on the MCDM utility-determining techniques
than in other years. It is also worth noting that a group of COPRAS
methods (COPRAS-Grey and COPRAS-Fuzzy) was ranked number
one among the methods used in this area. With regard to journals,
the Journal of Civil Engineering and Management was ranked first in
the list of journals, which contributed to this review
