Investment in stock portfolios has never been a risk-free course of action as countless factors impinge on the end result of such a venture. Although fairly rewarding, the element of uncertainty involved keeps many potential investors away as they fail to adequately forecast what moves the stock market is going to make in the near future. The enticement of receiving returns, however, is appealing enough for investors to have their money invested in the stock market. But the ability to forecast the market remains their major necessity. In operational terms, there are two ways of forecasting the current and future values of any time series including stock indices. One way is to regress stock returns over all those factors that have an effect on stock market performance. The other method is making predictions on the basis of the past performance of the stock market. The current paper has adopted the second method of forecasting and has made use of the ARIMA technique. Monthly stock returns data of KSE 100 Index was collected from 1997 to 2019 which translated into 266 observations. It was realized that the technique used in the study helped in adequately predicting stock returns, although only in the short run. The outcomes of this study may be of help for prospective stock market investors, specifically short-term, in deciding when, and when not, to extend their investments at Pakistan Stock Exchange

In this article, high-gain ultra-wideband (UWB) monopole antenna is presented. e UWB monopole antenna is a semicircular- shaped antenna with a semicircular slot at the top side. e bottom plane consists of partial ground with triangular and rectangular slotted structures to improve the impedance bandwidth of the proposed antenna. In order to enhance gain, a 6 × 6 metallic reector (FSS) is placed below the antenna. e performance of the oered design is validated experimentally. e simulated results show resemblance with the measured results. e antenna resonates for the UWB ranging from 3 to 11 GHz. Moreover, the integration of FSS improves the average gain by 4 dB, where peak gain obtained is 8.3 dB across the UWB. In addition, the reported unit cell having dimension of 0.11lambda × 0.11lambda gives wide bandwidth (7.2 GHz) from 3.3 GHz to 10.5 GHz. e performance of the proposed antenna determines its suitability for the modern day wireless UWB and GPR applications.Dr. Mohammad Alibakhshikenari acknowledges support from the CONEX-Plus programme funded by Universidad Carlos III de Madrid and the European Union's Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under the Marie Sklodowska-Curie grant agreement No. 801538

Evidences from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Pakistan show girls’ out-performance and boys’ under-performance in school and colleges level examinations. Despite of girls' outstanding performance in school and college examination, they are not catching up with boys in science subjects in terms of achieving high grades. This paper aims to unpack the prevailing reasons of girls' under-performance in science subjects in elementary, secondary and higher secondary schools examinations in the capital city of Peshawar- Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP). It focuses on girls' underperformance in Elementary, Secondary School Certificate and Higher Secondary School Certificate Annual examinations of the Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (BISE) Peshawar, KP. The article uses secondary and primary data. The secondary data consist of results records of BISE, Peshawar KP and primary data come from qualitative interviews with 20 school and college teachers (10 males & 10 females). The selection of teachers was done with the help of purposive sampling technique. The study comes up with diverse explanation for girls’ underperformance and boys’ outperformance in science subjects. The explanation encompasses the traditional beliefs in science subjects as masculine domain, gender stereotypes among parents, teachers, and the gendered belief about jobs opportunities available to boys and girls in socio-cultural context of KP. The findings of the study recommends that girls can do well in science subjects if they are given favorable and conducive environment. Keywords:Education, Outperformance, Purposive Sampling, Science, Thematic analysi

Use of Nano-Sized Adsorbents for Wastewater Treatment: A Review

    Get PDF
There is an increased demand for high-quality drinking water, which requires the removal of hazardous contaminants emerging from municipal, agricultural, and industrial effluents. An approach towards safe drinking water requires the implementation of various treatment processes for water emerging from natural resources as well as coming in the form of industrial wastewater. Pollutants in water bodies may be present in multiple states, including large suspended particles, dissolved chemical substances, in the form of microorganisms or suspended solids. Over the last few years, researchers have concentrated on developing a practical methodology for extracting pollutants from wastewater. During the course of time, although many advanced and complex wastewater treatment processes have evolved, yet adsorption has its own importance. Owing to its simple operation process, low cost, and less sludge formation, adsorption is being considered the most promising technique for wastewater treatment. In this regard, nanomaterial adsorbents have become a topic of great interest owing to their exceptional properties such as high adsorption strength, greater surface area, and chemical stability. Keeping in view, key features of nanoparticles, researchers have explored the applications of various adsorbents at the nanoscale in addressing wastewater treatment issues. The present review focuses on the use of nano-adsorbents in treating various industrial effluents and also provides a comparative assay in terms of the advantages and drawbacks of these nano-adsorbents, employed in removing hazardous contaminants from industrial effluents

This work presents an eight element array antenna with single layer frequency selective surface (FSS) to obtain high gain. The eight elements are fed by single port. The FSS consists of 14 × 6 unit cells with one unit cell size is 5 × 5 mm2 having wideband behavior. The antenna uses Rogers RT Duroid 5880 substrate and giving very wide bandwidth from 20 GHz to 65 GHz, covering millimeter wave 5G bands (including 28 GHz, 38 GHz and 60 GHz). The designed FSS is showing stop band transmission characteristics below −10 dB threshold from 25 GHz to 42 GHz and 59 GHz to 61 GHz. The eight element antenna integrated with the FSS reflector, which results an improvement in the gain level from 12 dB to 15 dB at 28 GHz, from 10 dB to 12 dB at 38 GHz, and from 9.5 to 11 dB at 60 GHz. The dimensions of the antenna are 65 × 27 × 0.857 mm3. The proposed antenna shows stable gain and directional radiation patterns. The simulation findings are experimentally confirmed, by testing the fabricated prototypes of the proposed antenna system
