    Pengembangan Model Pembelajaran Berbasis Interelasi Dalam Pembelajaran Bahasa Inggris Untuk Meningkatkan Kecakapan Hidup

    Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengembangkan model pembelajaran berbasis interelasi dalam pembelajaran Bahasa Inggris untuk meningkatkan kecakapan hidup siswa. Model pembelajaran ini diharapkan dapat digunaan sebagai acuan pelaksanaan pembelajaran bahasa Inggris di tingkat SMK khususnya di kabupaten Purworejo. Penelitian ini menggunakan model Research and Development. Peneliti menerapkan uji coba model pembelajaran di SMK Nurussalaf Kemiri, Purworejo. Beberapa temuan adalah kurangnya pemahaman para siswa akan istilah bahasa Inggris di bidang otomotif, minimnya penguasaan kosakata teknis, dan pengucapan (pronunciation) yang tidak sempurna. Setelah diajar selama tiga pertemuan, para siswa mengalami peningkatan yang cukup signifikan terkait penguasan istilah, kosakata, dan pengucapan bahasa Inggris teknis. Hasil dari pengamatan dan wawancara terhadap para siswa, pada umumnya mereka senang dengan model pembelajaran interelasi dan mereka berkeinginan agar kegiatan ini dilanjutkan oleh guru yang mengajar Bahasa Inggris mereka saat ini. Dari penelitian ini akan tersusun desain model pembelajaran berbasis interelasi beserta perangkatnya untuk pembelajaran bahasa Inggris. Pada tahap test, evaluation, and revision desain model dikembangkan dengan melakukan uji coba di SMK Institut Indonesia Kutoarjo. Dari hasil uji efektifitas, peneliti menemukan bahwa nilai post test eksperimen siswa adalah 78.33, dan nilai post test kontrol sebesar 73.13. Hasil uji-t menunjukkan bahwa t-hitung lebih besar dari t-tabel (4.816>2.000). Peneliti menyimpulkan bahwa model pembelajaran interelasi baik dan efektif untuk diterapkan dalam pembelajaran bahasa Inggris di tingkat SMK untuk meningkatkan kecakapan hidu

    A Rhetorical Analysis of RM's Speech at the United Nations General Assembly and Its Application in Teaching Speaking

    This study aims to find out rhetorical proof and rhetorical figure of repetition, to analyze the speech delivery strategy, and to explain the application of rhetoric in teaching speaking. This research belongs to qualitative research. The main instrument in this research was the researcher itself using documentation. The data of this research was taken from RM’s speech at the United Nations General Assembly in the form text and video. The unit analysis of this research was the transcript of RM’s speech and the video of the speech. The researcher analyzed the data using content analysis. The result of this research showed that RM used rhetorical proof logos (10%), ethos (42%), and pathos (48%) in his speech. He also provided rhetorical figure of repetition such as anaphora (45%), epistrophe (11%), mesodiplosis (22%), anadiplosis (11%), and conduplication (11%) to give his speech the touch of art. In delivering speech, he used speech delivery strategy, includes storytelling for 54%, tone of voice, pause, and body movement. Moreover, the result of the study in this research can be applied in English learning at the tenth grade, especially in spoken advertisement

    The objective of this research is to describe whether are the strategy in teachingreading at eleventh grade students of MA N Purworejo in academic year 2016/2017. Inthis research, the researcher took 2 teachers as the subject of the research. In the ofobservation research, the research tried to analyze the teacher’s teaching strategy inreading conducted by the teacher in the classroom to find out whether strategies wereused or not by the teacher.The population of this research is the English teacher at MA N Purworejo. Thesample of this research is the English teachers of eleventh grade student at MA NPurworejo. This is qualitative research, because the purpose is to get a picture andinformation about the strategies used in the English language teacher especially aboutreading skills. The writer uses two instruments, there are observation and interview. Theobservation to get the data by closely watching and noticing classroom events and theinterview to support the observation, because the interview is a dialogue conducted byinformation to get information from interviewed.The researcher concluded: Teacher teach in IPS class. Teacher use three types,there are guessing, scan the text and analyze vocabulary. Teacher combine threestrategies to teach in the classroom. Strategy often used is drilling and chants. Teacheruse type because many students are often difficult. Their vocabulary is limited.Therefore the teacher uses this method for imitating and repeating word. Example : Thestudents repeated teacher after said the vocabulary. The teacher says one word andmeaning then the student repeated that word. Teacher teach in IPS class.     Students’ Perception toward EFL College Teacher Pedagogical Competence in Teaching Writing

    The research aims at knowing the pedagogic competence in teaching writing to the second-semester English students at Universitas Muhammadiyah Purworejo and analyzing the students’ perspectives of the college teacher pedagogic competence in teaching writing. Besides, this research is also to find out and to solve students’ problems in teaching and learning activities. This research used descriptive qualitative in acquiring the result of questionnaires which was used to find out the college teacher pedagogic competence. The instruments of this research used close-response questionnaires and open-response questionnaires to describe the college teacher pedagogic competence in teaching writing in class and to describe the students’ perspectives of the college teacher pedagogic competence. The research subject was 35 English students of Universitas Muhammadiyah Purworejo. The thematic analysis was to analyze the research data. The result of this research showed that the students gave their positive perspective to the college teacher pedagogic competence in teaching writing. The students answered that the colege teacher had good ability in teaching writing in the class. The college teacher has a good score from the students. The college teacher get 94% Agree and 6% disagree for the college teacher pedagogical competence in teaching writing. The college teacher also get positive perspectives from the student’s answers about their open-response participants.  This research also revealed that the college teacher pedagogic competence in teaching writing of Universitas Muhammadiyah Purworejo was a very good category. The college teacher also used good methods to teach their material in the class. The students felt comfortable and interested in learning in the class. In addition, become more active and responsible

    Lexico-Grammatical Analysis of Alice's Adventure in Wonderland and Its Pedagogical Implication

    This study aims to reveal: (1) the translation differences between source language (SL) and target language (TL) of the human translator and the machine translator on the translation of the Indonesian subtitle of Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland Movie, (2) lexical difference in translation differences between source language (SL) and target language (TL), (3) grammatical difference in translation differences between source language (SL) and target language (TL) and (4) the advantages in examining the translation differences related to vocabulary and grammar teaching for the tenth grade students of senior high school. This study used a qualitative descriptive. The data were taken subtitles sentences because what the researchers analyzes is the form of written language. The source of the data was script by Linda Woolverton (SL), the Indonesian subtitle was translated by Pein Akatsuki (TL 1) and the second Indonesian translator was Google translate (TL 2). This study used the researchers as the main instrument for collecting, classifying, and analyzing the data. The researchers read the script of English and Indonesian subtitle of the Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland Movie. The results of the descriptive analysis show that there are 147 data of the translation. It reveals that: (1) the translation of this research are 114 data (78%) difference and 33 data (22%) no translation difference of Indonesian Subtitle of Alice's Adventures in Wonderland Movie, (2) in the translation differences (351 items) there are lexical differences (169 items), (3) whereas, the difference of translations are grammatical differences (182 items), (4) there are several advantages in improving students’ vocabulary skills, teaching grammar, and finding the vocabulary and grammar in a course book Bahasa Inggris

    Fostering Junior High School Teachers’ Competence in Technology-Assisted Learning Media Development

    Technology literacy and poor teaching competences are common weaknesses experienced by junior high school teachers. This is because most junior high school teachers rarely use technology-based media in developing learning materials. Lecturers of English Education Study Program, Universitas Muhammadiyah Purworejo held training on technology-assisted learning media to overcome the problems faced. The method used was covered four steps namely problem analysis, preparation, implementation, and evaluation. The training activities were carried out face to face at SMP N 22 Purworejo. A total of 36 (thirty six) teachers participated in this activity. To evaluate the training program's achievements and participant responses, close-response questionnaires and semi-structured interviews were conducted after the presentation and discussion sessions finished. The results of the interviews showed that the participants were happy and enthusiastic about participating in the training activities. This community service program is able to increase teacher competence in developing technology-based learning media. The output of this program was an article published in a national-accredited journal. Further training needs to be held by increasing the number of participants from junior and senior high school teachers

    This research belongs to descriptive qualitative research. The aim of this research to find out the types of cohesive devices in job advertisements and to describe the application the analysis of cohesive devices in job advertisements for teaching writing. The researcher took three job advertisements in hiverhq.com accessed on 16 December 2021. The researcher analyzed the grammatical cohesion and lexical cohesion in sentence based on theory from M.A.K Haliday and Ruqaiya Hasan. The result of this research showed that there were 6 references and 34 conjunctions for grammatical cohesions and 20 repetitions and 3 superordinates for lexical cohesion. However, in grammatical cohesions there was no substitution and ellipsis, whereas in lexical cohesion there is no synonymy or near-synonymy, general word and collocation

    The Influence of Students’ Habit of Listening to English Songs on Their Pronunciation Ability

    The objectives of the research to find out whether there is or not positive and significant influence of students’ habit of listening to English songs on their pronunciation ability. The sample of this research was 26 students used purposive sampling. The instrument to take the data was questionnaire and documentation. The technique of analyzing data were descriptive analysis and inferential analysis to answer the statement of the problem and hypothesis. The result of the research showed that the testing r value was lower than r table (0.185< 0.388) and the R square was 0.34. From the computations, it means that Ho was accepted. Therefore, there was positive and gave no significant influence between students’ habit of listening to English songs on their pronunciation ability at of the second semester students of Muhammadiyah University of Purworejo in the academic year oof 2019/2020

    LEXICAL AND CONTEXTUAL MEANINGS IN SONG LYRICS” MOANA ORIGINAL SOUNDTRACK”: PEDAGODICAL IMPLICATION

    This research aims to analyze song lyrics containing lexical and contextual meanings in the title of “Moana Original Soundtrack.". There are three research questions such as; 1.What is the form of lexical meaning in the song lyrics? .2. What is the form of contextual meanings found in the song lyrics? 3. How is the implementation of lexical and contextual meanings for teaching purposes, particularly for teaching reading skills? Researchers used a qualitative descriptive method to conduct the study. The data sources of this research were the song lyrics of "Moana Original Soundtrack.”. Researchers’ chose five lyrics taken from internet social media. Procedures concerning to the data collection and organizations are such as; first, researchers read and comprehension of song lyrics. Second, researchers identified the words, phrases, and sentences containing lexical and contextual meaning. The third, researchers conducted coding and interpreting lexical and contextual meaning found in the song lyrics of Maona Original Soundtrck. The forth, researchers concluded the results of analysis based on findings. The results showed that there are thirty five words in the song lyrics of “Moana Original Soundtrack” contained lexical and contextual meanings. There were twelve words found in How Far I’ll Go, six words found in I am “Moana”, ten words found in Where You Are, three words found in Shiny, and four words found in Know Who You Are. Furthermore, texts of song lyrics containing lexical and contextual meaning can be use as a teaching material for critical reading skills.

    Expressions of Attitudes in Students' Narrative Writing: an Appraisal Analysis

    This article investigated attitude, one of subsystem appraisal, in the English as a Foreign Language (EFL) university students' narrative writings. Five narrative writing was selected purposefully from undergraduate students of the English Department at a local private university in Central Java. The findings demonstrate that the affect is the most dominant subsystem of attitude used in the students' narrative writing to convey feelings and emotion of characters and events in the stories in order to make the readers involved in the stories. The prominent finding of this research implies that most students used expressions of attitudes which belong to basic English words and repetition of same words. This present research suggests English language teachers and lecturers pay more attention to the explicit teaching of attitudinal words USAge in writing, especially narrative writing
