Objective: Childhood abuse experiences and their traumatic consequences have the characteristics that greatly affect the individual's future life. For this reason, it is thought that determining the variables related to neglect and abuse will be a guide for awareness-raising and prevention efforts to be made. In this study, the relationship between childhood abuse experiences, cognitive distortions and loneliness levels of high school students was investigated. Method: Study group consisted of 703 high school students. The participants were asked to complete Demographic Information Form, Childhood Trauma Questionnaire, The Interpersonal Distortions Scale and UCLA Loneliness Scale. The data were analysed using Spearman’s Brown Rank Test and multiple regression. Results: The results of the data analysis indicated that a statistically significant relationship was found between physical abuse sub-dimension of childhood abuse experiences and avoidance from proximity subdimension of interpersonal distortions in positive way; mind reading sub-dimension of interpersonal distortions in negativeway. Also, therewas a significant positive correlation between sexual abuse sub-dimension of childhood traumatic experiences and avoidance from proximity sub-dimension of interpersonal distortions. It was found out that emotional abuse sub-dimension of childhood abuse experiences displayed a significant relationship with avoidance of proximitysub-dimension of interpersonal distortions in positive way; whereas with unrealistic expectations of relationships and mind reading sub-dimensions of interpersonal distortionsin negative way. Also it was found that childhood abuse experiences explained the 5% of the avoid proximity sub-dimension of cognitive distortions and 17% of the loneliness level. Discussion: Results of the study indicated that all subdimensions of childhood abuse experiences were related to sub-dimensions of cognitive distortions and loneliness levels

Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a serious and progressive disease that occurs when carbohydrates, fat and protein are not used effectively in the body, but it is a problem that greatly affects the individual when the desired level of control cannot be achieved. In this study, the relationship between Treatment Compliance and Quality of Life in Type 2 DM Patients aged 65 and over was evaluated to inform patients about chronic complications, prevent complications, and maintain appropriate care when complications develop. The research was planned as descriptive and cross-sectional. In the unit with a population of 4000, 90 people aged 65 and over with Type 2 DM were included in the study. The mean age of the participants was 71.99±5.76 years (min-max: 65-94). 55.6% of the patients were women, 84.4% were married and 55.6% were primary school graduates. The mean score of the Elderly Quality of Life Scale was 23.32±6.59, and the mean score of the Patient Compliance Scale in the Treatment of Type 2 DM was 86.67±8.68. In the study, the relationship between Treatment Compliance and Quality of Life in Type 2 DM patients aged 65 and over was evaluated, and a negative and independent significant relationship was found between scale scores. This study will set an example for patients diagnosed with Type 2 DM to adapt to their treatment and determine their quality of life and make future plans. [Med-Science 2022; 11(4.000): 1395-7

Objectives: Care of a person with schizophrenia involves multiple problems, possibly leading to burnout which is a culturally influenced phenomenon. The aim of this study was to investigate burnout and related factors in caregivers of outpatients with schizophrenia. Methods: Subjects included in the study were 40 primary caregivers of outpatients with schizophrenia (15 males, 25 females) whom were assessed with the Maslach Burnout Inventory (MBI), the Beck Depression Inventory (BDI) and the Beck Anxiety Inventory (BAI). Patients were also administered the Calgary Depression Scale (CDS). Also, sociodemographic information about patients and their caregivers were taken. The significance of differences between two groups was determined by Mann-Whitney U-test. The relationships between the variables were evaluated by Pearson correlation analysis. Results: No significant difference was found in the MBI subscale scores in terms of caregivers gender, marital status, and education, being a family member, having enough information about the illness and taking support during caregiving. Emotional Exhaustion and Personal Accomplishment subscale scores of the caregivers were significantly different in terms of patients’ adaptation to treatment or not (respectively; p=0.010, p=0.030). The MBI-Emotional Exhaustion scores revealed significant positive correlations with the BDI and BAI total scores. Also, the MBI- Depersonalization scores and the BAI scores were positively correlated. Conclusions: Burnout levels in caregivers of patients with schizophrenia were lower when compared with other cultures. Only treatment compliance predicted burnout, while other factors were excluded. Therefore, professionals have to help to patients primarily adapt to their treatment
