Characterization of Structural Transition and Heterogeneity under Compression for Liquid Al2O3 Using Molecular Dynamics Simulation
We have performed a simulation of the structural transition and Structural Heterogeneity (SH) in liquid Al2O3 at 3500 K, in the range of 0–100 GPa. The results confirmed that the network structure of liquid alumina is built mainly from AlOx (x = 3, 4, 5, 6, 7) units, which are related to each other through the common oxygen atoms. The existence of separate AlO3-, AlO4-, AlO5-, AlO6- and AlO7- phases, where SH of the network structure can be sufficiently determined, besides, the existence of separate phases is clarified for SH in the liquid of Al2O3. In particular, at a pressure below 10 and beyond 20 GPa, AlOx units are uniformly distributed in the space and non-uniformly distributed in the range 10-20 GPa. Our study is expected to contribute to a simple way to determine the structural heterogeneity and diffusion coefficients of oxide systems. Doi: 10.28991/HIJ-2022-03-02-08 Full Text: PD
RANDAO-based RNG: Last Revealer Attacks in Ethereum 2.0 Randomness and a Potential Solution
Ethereum 2.0 is a major upgrade to improve its scalability, throughput, and
security. In this version, RANDAO is the scheme to randomly select the users
who propose, confirm blocks, and get rewards. However, a vulnerability,
referred to as the `Last Revealer Attack' (LRA), compromises the randomness of
this scheme by introducing bias to the Random Number Generator (RNG) process.
This vulnerability is first clarified again in this study. After that, we
propose a Shamir's Secret Sharing (SSS)-based RANDAO scheme to mitigate the
LRA. Through our analysis, the proposed method can prevent the LRA under
favorable network conditions
Musculoskeletal Pain and Work-related Risk Factors among Waste Collectors in Hanoi, Vietnam: A Cross-sectional Study
BACKGROUND: Musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) are prevalent among waste collectors (WCs) in developing countries.
AIM: This study aimed to investigate the prevalence of MSDs and the factors associated with the risk of persistent musculoskeletal pain among WCs in Hanoi, Vietnam.
METHODS: A cross-sectional survey was utilized to study 468 WCs in 2017. The Örebro Musculoskeletal Pain Questionnaire and a questionnaire on demographic and work conditions were used to collect data. Descriptive and multivariate logistics regression analyzes were applied at a significance level of 0.05 to examine the factors related to the risk of persistent pain.
FINDINGS: About 74.4% of the participants of this study experienced MSDs in at least one body region and 9.4% reported MSDs in all 10 body sites. The lower back was reported to be the most affected followed by the neck and shoulders. The risk of persistent musculoskeletal pain was significantly associated with age (odds ratio (OR) = 2.31, confidence interval (CI) = 1.05–5.09), gender (OR = 3.29, CI = 1.28–8.44), work hours (OR = 2.35, CI = 1.12–4.92), work shift (OR = 0.48, CI = 0.26–0.92), duration of poor postures of the neck (OR = 0.31, CI = 0.13–0.76), bent back (OR = 0.4 CI = 0.18–0.92) and for medial rotation (OR = 3.01, CI = 1.42–6.36), carrying heavy objects (OR = 2.94, CI = 1.15–7.48), and experience of work dissatisfaction (OR = 3.31, CI = 1.46-7.52), stress (OR = 7.14, CI = 3.14–16.24), or anxiety (OR = 6.37, CI = 3.07–13.21).
CONCLUSIONS: High prevalence of MSDs among WCs and its association with self-assessed unfavorable work postures and work-related stress implies the need of mechanical and social support at work for WC to prevent the development of MSDs and persistent pain
Communication activities of students with the social cultural environment during floods: A case study in Thua Thien Hue province, Vietnam
This study aims to explore the variances in communication behaviours among undergraduate students within the social-cultural context. A total of 104 participants (40 lecturers and six managers) were selected from two universities, namely Hue University of Science and Hue University of Education. The collected data was subsequently evaluated. The findings suggest that there are slight differences between male and female students. This study highlights significant differences in involvement among Kinh ethnic students and students from other ethnic groups. Furthermore, the geographical location and sociocultural environment of a region significantly influence the communication behaviors and preferences of students. Students demonstrate higher mean scores in diverse communication activities as compared to lecturers. The results highlight the significance of gender, ethnicity, geographic location and student status in influencing students' participation in communication. Recognizing and addressing these differences can help in the development of effective communication strategies, the development of inclusive environments and the encouragement of positive social interactions among various groups of students. The implications for students' well-being, academic success and intercultural competency might be explored in more detail in further studies by examining the fundamental variables that lead to these differences
GC-MS analysis and cytotoxic activity of the n-hexane fraction from Curcuma sahuynhensis Škornick. & N.S.Lý leaves collected in Vietnam
Curcuma sahuynhensis Škornick. & N.S.Lý is an endemic plant in Vietnam that has been used by the Sa Huynh people as a spice and medicine to cure illnesses linked to digestive disorders. Very little information is available so far about the chemical composition and biological effects of C. sahuynhensis. To find new pharmaceutical ingredients, the in vitro cytotoxic effect and the chemical profile of C. sahuynhensis leaf extract were investigated. In this study, the percolation method and liquid-liquid dispersion technique were used to extract dry sample powder. The chemical composition was detected by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS). The Sulforhodamine B and MTT methods were used to determine the cytotoxic activity. The chemical composition analysis showed that the leaf extract contained 14 components. The major components in the n-hexane extract were 6,10,14-trimethylpentadecan-2-one, phytol, 1-ethylbutyl hydroperoxide, isoborneol, 1-methylpentyl hydroperoxide, and neophytadiene. On human cancer cell lines, namely MFC-7, SK-LU-1, Hela, MKN-7, and HL-60, the leaf extract showed dose-dependent cytotoxic activity, with IC50 values ranging from 221.70±10.24 to 369.42±10.60 ?g/mL. The present study provides significant information on the chemical components and cytotoxic effects of the n-hexane extract from C. sahuynhensis leaves. The findings will continue to be crucial in future research on the evaluation of secondary metabolite compound analysis for cancer therapeutic effects

Background: In a previous report, we showed that Vibrio shilonii was found on whiteleg shrimp (Litopenaeus vannamei) with acute hepatopancreatic necrosis disease in Thua Thien Hue province, Vietnam. This study was performed to develop a diagnostic molecular marker generated by random amplified polymorphic DNA (RAPD) for V. shilonii rapid detection. Methods: Pathogen Vibrio spp. were isolated from shrimps and fishes, and were identified by 16S rRNA sequencing. Genetic diversity of Vibrio strains was analysis by RAPD technique. Specific PCR product for V. shilonii was cloned and sequenced. SCAR marker was developed from specific PCR product.Result: Twenty random primers were evaluated for RAPD to identify DNA polymorphisms between Vibrio species. The random primer OPN-06 generated a 468-bp DNA fragment specific for V. shilonii. This was then converted into a sequence-characterized amplified region (SCAR) marker designated N6-441.Conclusion: Specific primers (Vshi-441F/Vshi-441R) amplified a unique DNA fragment in all V. shilonii isolates but not in the other Vibrio spp. This PCR assay showed significantly sensitive to the target DNA and reliably for the amplification the V. shilonii genome. Keywords: AHPND; RAPD; SCAR; Vibrio shilonii; Vietna
Cloning and expression of pigC gene in Escherichia coli
Prodigiosin (Pg), which is particularly of interest because of anticancer and antimicrobial activities, can be produced through the PigC-catalyzed condensation reaction of 4-methoxy-2, 2’-bipyrrole-5-carboxyaldehyde (MBC) and 2-methyl-3-amylpyrrole (MAP). Therefore, the PigC protein plays an important role in prodigiosin biosynthetic pathway. However, studies related to PigC protein have not been carried out in Vietnam yet. In this work, the pigC gene was cloned and expressed in Escherichia coli DH10B and BL21 (DE3), respectively. Using PCR and universal primers, we amplified a fragment of 3 kb covering entire coding region of the pigC gene from Serratia sp. strain M5. The pigC gene was inserted into pJET1.2 vector, and then transformed into E. coli DH10B. The sequence of a recombinant vector pJET1.2/pigC was evaluated by using whole colony PCR amplification. Sequence alignment results revealed that the obtained pigC gene possesses 71.5% and 75.4% of nucleotide identity in comparison with two strains, Serratia 39006 and Serratia sp. AS9 published in GenBank with their respective accession numbers of AJ833001 and CP002773. The recombinant vector pJET1.2/pigC was used to reamplify pigC, and the acquired amplicon was inserted into pET22b vector at the site of HindIII and XhoI. The clone E. coli BL21 (DE3) containing recombinant vector pET22b/pigC was expressed in the auto-induced medium. The presence of PigC protein in the lysate was identified as a 100 kDa band through Western Blot analysis using anti his-tag antibody. Afterward, the PigC protein was purified by Ni-NTA column, and its expression level was quantified through SDS-PAGE analysis. The results of our study provide a potential material for producing prodigiosin from recombinant protein in Vietnam

Deep Transfer Learning: A Novel Collaborative Learning Model for Cyberattack Detection Systems in IoT Networks
Federated Learning (FL) has recently become an effective approach for
cyberattack detection systems, especially in Internet-of-Things (IoT) networks.
By distributing the learning process across IoT gateways, FL can improve
learning efficiency, reduce communication overheads and enhance privacy for
cyberattack detection systems. Challenges in implementation of FL in such
systems include unavailability of labeled data and dissimilarity of data
features in different IoT networks. In this paper, we propose a novel
collaborative learning framework that leverages Transfer Learning (TL) to
overcome these challenges. Particularly, we develop a novel collaborative
learning approach that enables a target network with unlabeled data to
effectively and quickly learn knowledge from a source network that possesses
abundant labeled data. It is important that the state-of-the-art studies
require the participated datasets of networks to have the same features, thus
limiting the efficiency, flexibility as well as scalability of intrusion
detection systems. However, our proposed framework can address these problems
by exchanging the learning knowledge among various deep learning models, even
when their datasets have different features. Extensive experiments on recent
real-world cybersecurity datasets show that the proposed framework can improve
more than 40% as compared to the state-of-the-art deep learning based
approaches.Comment: 12 page
Catalytic Dye Oxidation over CeO2 Nanoparticles Supported on Regenerated Cellulose Membrane
A novel regenerated cellulose (RC) membrane containing cerium oxide (CeO2) nanoparticles is described in detail. In this work, CeO2 nanoparticles with high surface area and mesoporosity were prepared by a modified template-assisted precipitation method. Successful synthesis was achieved using cerium nitrate as a precursor, adjusting the final pH solution to around 11 by ammonium hydroxide and ethylene diamine, and annealing at 550 °C for 3 hours under a protective gas flow. This resulted in a surface area of 55.55 m².g–1 for the nanoparticles. The regenerated cellulose membrane containing CeO2 particles was synthesized by the novel and environmentally friendly method. The catalyst CeO2 and cellulose/CeO2 membrane were characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), X-ray diffraction (XRD), Electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR), and Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET) measurements. The g-value of 2.276 has confirmed the presence of the surface superoxide species of CeO2 nanoparticles in EPR. The photocatalytic activity of the catalyst and the membrane containing the catalyst was evaluated through the degradation of methylene blue under visible light irradiation by UV-VIS measurements. The cellulose/CeO2 membrane degraded 80% of the methylene blue solution in 120 minutes, showing a better photocatalytic activity than the CeO2 catalyst, which degraded approximately 62% in the same period. It has been proven that the RC membrane is not only a good transparent supporting material but also a good adsorption for high-performance of CeO2 catalyst.
