In the context of globalization and the rapid development of the Internet, social networks have become an indispensable part of the lives of citizens in the 21st century. In addition to helping people communicate and connect, wireless platforms bring benefits to work, study, and entertainment. However, faced with the staggering increase in the use of social networks, many argue that they can have negative impacts on users, particularly those who are studying or working. This study aims to provide readers with an overview of the negative impacts of social networks on Vietnamese youth. The research data was collected by gathering reputable sources and surveying young people born between 1995 and 2010, belonging to Generation Z, who are living, studying, and working in major cities in Vietnam and using social networks. Through statistical analysis and data processing, the results show that the use of communication platforms has a negative impact on the productivity and health of Vietnamese youth. To minimize the negative impacts on daily life, young people should consider the amount of time they spend using social networks and the content they publish. Additionally, protecting personal information and building positive communities is necessary to avoid unnecessary risks

The research was carried out to verify the effectiveness of applying Realistic Mathematics Education (RME) on the development of skills required by students in statistical content in grade 7. For achieving research objectives, the pedagogical experiment was conducted in the form of intrinsic legalization for forty-eight 7th-grade students at Tang Phu Nhan B Junior School, District 9, Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. Accordingly, data on pre-test results, study sheets, post-test, and student learning performance were collected and analyzed qualitatively. The results were assessed based on the criteria corresponding to the required skills for the statistical content, including the criteria for data collection, classification, and representation according to the given criteria for the skill, data collection, and organization capabilities; simple problem formation and problem-solving criteria arise from the existing statistical figures and charts for data analysis and processing skills. The primary mathematical statistics method was used to evaluate the achievement level of students for each criterion. Thereby, the experimental results showed that applying the RME approach in teaching statistical content positively impacted the development of some skills that students needed to achieve. Also, a number of guidelines were provided to guide the enhancement of RME activities

On a system of nonlinear wave equations with the Kirchhoff-Carrier and Balakrishnan-Taylor terms

summary:We study a system of nonlinear wave equations of the Kirchhoff-Carrier type containing a variant of the Balakrishnan-Taylor damping in nonlinear terms. By the linearization method together with the Faedo-Galerkin method, we prove the local existence and uniqueness of a weak solution. On the other hand, by constructing a suitable Lyapunov functional, a sufficient condition is also established to obtain the exponential decay of weak solutions

    Get PDF
Test development involves many required stages, including examining the psychometric characteristics of the test and each test item. This study describes the development of an English vocabulary test designed for EFL learners in Vietnam and provides an analysis using the Rasch model to evaluate the test quality and test items. The data was collected from 202 students from a Vietnamese university and analysed with the use of the Conquest computer program. The results show that the test had high reliability. Four out of 50 items were removed from the test as not fitting the Rasch model. 36 items were ranked very good, and 10 items require some revision efforts for better distractors. The paper is expected to contribute to the wide application of the Rasch model in the practices of test development and suggest the development of more reliable instruments for EFL learners to assess their vocabulary.

LEGION: Harnessing Pre-trained Language Models for GitHub Topic Recommendations with Distribution-Balance Loss

Open-source development has revolutionized the software industry by promoting collaboration, transparency, and community-driven innovation. Today, a vast amount of various kinds of open-source software, which form networks of repositories, is often hosted on GitHub - a popular software development platform. To enhance the discoverability of the repository networks, i.e., groups of similar repositories, GitHub introduced repository topics in 2017 that enable users to more easily explore relevant projects by type, technology, and more. It is thus crucial to accurately assign topics for each GitHub repository. Current methods for automatic topic recommendation rely heavily on TF-IDF for encoding textual data, presenting challenges in understanding semantic nuances. This paper addresses the limitations of existing techniques by proposing Legion, a novel approach that leverages Pre-trained Language Models (PTMs) for recommending topics for GitHub repositories. The key novelty of Legion is three-fold. First, Legion leverages the extensive capabilities of PTMs in language understanding to capture contextual information and semantic meaning in GitHub repositories. Second, Legion overcomes the challenge of long-tailed distribution, which results in a bias toward popular topics in PTMs, by proposing a Distribution-Balanced Loss (DB Loss) to better train the PTMs. Third, Legion employs a filter to eliminate vague recommendations, thereby improving the precision of PTMs. Our empirical evaluation on a benchmark dataset of real-world GitHub repositories shows that Legion can improve vanilla PTMs by up to 26% on recommending GitHubs topics. Legion also can suggest GitHub topics more precisely and effectively than the state-of-the-art baseline with an average improvement of 20% and 5% in terms of Precision and F1-score, respectively.Comment: Accepted to EASE'2

Hypertension is a leading risk factor for major chronic illnesses. This study investigated the quality of life (QOL) of hypertensive patients in an urban setting and evaluate related factors. A cross-sectional study on 220 hypertensive patients was performed in Hanoi, Vietnam. Short-form 12 version 2 (SF12-v2) was used to assess QOL. Sociodemographic and clinical characteristics were also obtained. Multivariate regression was utilized to explore the related factors with patients’ QOL. The mean physical health (PCS-12) and mental health (MCS-12) scores were 43.3 (SD=7.9) and 56.3 (SD=6.5), respectively, Higher age was related to a lower PCS-12. People living in low-population-density settings have a higher MCS-12 score than those living in high-density settings. Increasing comorbidity and medication reduced both component scores. Patients participating in social activity had the MCS-12 score higher than those not participating. This study found a moderate level of health-related quality of life (HRQOL) in hypertensive patients regardless of treatment progress. Regular screening and controlling comorbidities, as well as motivating active employment and social activities involvement, are the potential to enhance the HRQOL of this population

Curculigo orchioides, a member of the genus Curculigo and the family Hypoxidaceae, is a herbal plant and has been used as traditional medicine. Currently, there is high demand for cultivating this plant. However, there has not been sufficient research into the genetic diversity to assist the authentication of the material, for example, the genetic research based on the DNA indicators of Curculigo. In this study, the gene trnL-trnF region of 15 Curculigo orchioides germplasms collected from three locations in the province were sequenced and analyzed for identification and evolution. The results show that the sequenced fragment of the gene trnL-trnF from the surveyed samples has 99% similarity and 100% coverage compared with the NC 053892 sequence of Curculigo orchioides. We identified five haplotypes of C. orchioides in the province with a haplotype diversity coefficient (Hd) of 0.705 ± 0.088. The genetic distances ranged from 0 to 0.49% among the populations. The Curculigo orchioides population in Thua Thien Hue has evolved towards balanced, neutral, and random selection because of the lack of rare alleles.Sâm cau (Curculigo orchioides), thuộc chi Curculigo, họ Hypoxidaceae, là một loài thảo dược quý và đã được người dân tin dùng để chăm sóc và bảo vệ sức khỏe.
