Community resilience : is it greater than the sum of the parts of individual resilience?
Resilience is an interesting concept in that it can be applied in similar, but different, ways in a variety of contexts. In this paper I look at the different meanings for the concept with a particular focus on individual resilience examined from a psychological perspective. Individual resilience is compared and contrasted with community resilience in an attempt to answer the question, “is community resilience greater than the sum of the parts of individual resilience found within that community”?
In psychology, resilience research has developed from work looking at how people cope with the negative impact of crisis, disaster or trauma. In recent years this psychopathological perspective has been accompanied by an increasing interest in the positive outcomes that can follow trauma. For example families may grow closer following their survival of a traumatic event. This positive perspective would include work done on Post Traumatic Growth (PTG), Benefit Finding (BF), Positive Psychological Change (PCC) and of course psychological resilience.
This paper will examine these different facets of “resilience” from a positive psychology perspective and look at how they may help in understanding the relationship between individual and community resilience. It will also look at how positive psychological interventions may be used to enhance the resilience of individuals and communities
Polarization degrees of freedom in photoinduced two-nucleon knockout from finite nuclei
The polarization degrees of freedom in photoinduced two-nucleon knockout from
finite nuclei are studied. It is pointed out that they open good perspectives
to study the dynamics of dinucleons in the medium in detail. The ()
and () angular cross sections, photon asymmetries and outgoing
nucleon polarizations are calculated for the target nuclei O and
C and photonenergies ranging from 100 up to 500 MeV. It is investigated
to which degree the two-nucleon emission reaction is dominated by
photoabsorption on proton-neutron and proton-proton
pairs in the nuclear medium. The calculations demonstrate that dominance of
wave photoabsorption in the () channel does not necessarily imply
that the reaction mechanism is similar to what is observed in deuteron

Promoting well-being: Crisis, loss and alcohol
Well-being is a concept which can connect together a number of important ideas that have a strong resonance for professional education and practice across the human services. This can critically include considerations of illness, crisis, and loss. Such acute moments in individuals’ lives can be examined through their precipitating events, coping mechanisms, and responses. This article explores some of the dimensions of well-being and how they facilitate a greater understanding of illness, crisis, and loss. These deliberations are then exemplified through a focus on alcohol and other drug use

Profile Assessment of Bioactive Peptides in the Greek Traditional Cheese “Tsalafouti”
In the Greek regions of Agrafa and Tzoumerka, Tsalafouti, a traditional spreadable cheese made from goat’s and sheep’s milk is produced. This product has emerged in recent years as a result of the campaign to acquire Geographical Indication. This study aimed to assess the biopeptide profile of Tsalafouti cheese in order to highlight its nutritional value. Using HPLC-MS, bioactive peptides in Tsalafouti cheese samples were identified and classified according to their bioactivity. The biopeptides detected are known to present antibacterial, anti-diabetic, anti-hypertensive, anti-thrombotic, antioxidant, and immunomodulatory activities, while ACE enzyme and dipeptidyl-4 (DPP-IV) inhibitors were also identified. Based on these results, Tsalafouti cheese presents an interesting bioactive peptides profile that may act as special motivation for consumers to choose this specific cheese
