Desta forma, os resultados e discussões neste artigo estão todos baseados em “dados puros” no sentido em foram produzidos através do relacionamento com as próprias crianças de rua neste contextoThis article is about the life of “street” children in Luanda, in especific the practice and impact of their cultural expressions in their daily life. The focos is on the development of their capabilities, created trough the execution of their cultural expressions. There where estabeliced four area`s of cultural expressions of streetchildren in Luanda: dancing, singing and music, sports, games and playing, and indentification. Beyond the cultural expressions the concept “streetchildren” and the influence of this concept in their lives `ll be discused. There is an consideration about the concept “groups” and the way how the dynimics in these groups are used by developing their own capabilities and the cultural expressions. This article is based on the results of participative child investigation by Brenda te Koppele [2012] and therefore results and discussions in this article are all based on “pure data” recieved through the relationship with de streetchildren in this contex

This research about street children in Luanda: a characterization of their cultural expressions – aims to characterize the cultural expressions that the street children use in their daily life. Through this characterization it was possible to discover how they use and express their cultural expressions, what is their connection with the culture and history of Angola, which skills the children are mobilizing in the cultural expression and in which way the children are developing themselves by these cultural expressions, considering the theory of Howard Gardner, about multiple intelligences. This research was conducted with the participation of street children in Luanda, mainly children from the house of Magone, which is a reception center, part of the catholic congragation Dom Bosco. Additional children who live (for a period) in different parts of Luanda also participated. The field work was accomplished through the collaboration of VIS and Dom Bosco, who gave me the opportunity to contact the children of this study. This research was conducted by a qualitative methodology with an ethnographic orientation, which included living together with the children of the house of Magone, for some parts of the day and the night in the reception centre and in the streets. Moreover, I lived together with different groups of children who were living (for a time) in different parts of the city: square of 1o de Maio, district of Sao Paulo and Marginal Avenue. During the field work I used the different resources of: participant observation, interviews, unexpected conversations and I participated in activities created by the children. This research assumed a case study, which implied the involvement and participation of children in a range of activities, in a democratic process, in which they are included as citizens, with a view to their personal development, developing skills and confidence (Kirby, 1999). In this way I not only considered them as study objects, but they became themselves researchers about their own subject. Accordingly are included: drawings, videos, photos and diaries that are produced and advised by the children themselves

Convenient fluorometric assay for matrix metalloproteinase activity and its application in biological media

AbstractMatrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) are involved in physiological tissue remodeling and pathological conditions like tumour metastasis and joint destruction. Until now, no convenient and sensitive MMP-activity assay in crude media like synovial fluid has been available. Therefore, the highly soluble fluorogenic substrate TNO211 (Dabcyl-Gaba-Pro-Gln-Gly-Leu-Glu(EDANS)-Ala-Lys-NH2), containing the MMP cleavable Gly-Leu bond and EDANS/Dabcyl as fluorophore/quencer combination, was synthesized and characterized as an MMP specific substrate. We show that the fluorogenic assay using TNO211 is sensitive and can detect MMP activity in culture medium from endothelial cells and untreated synovial fluid (SF) from RA and OA patients, and control subjects. MMP activity in SF significantly increased in the order C < OA < RA, thus the frequent use of OA samples as control in studies on RA is debatable

Investigation of the association of the CRTM and CRTL1 genes with radiographically evident osteoarthritis in subjects from the Rotterdam study

__Objective:__ To investigate whether radiographically evident osteoarthritis (ROA) in 55-65-year-old men and women is associated with specific alleles or genotypes of the cartilage matrix protein (CRTM) and cartilage link protein (CRTLl) genes. __Methods:__ Cases were selected from a populationbased study on the presence of ROA of the knee or hip. Further radiographic analysis included scoring for spine and hand ROA. Controls, selected from the same population, were free of ROA in all joints. __Results:__ The CRTM locus was significantly associated with hip ROA in men (odds ratio 0.50, 95% confidence interval 0.26-0.95). A significant association between ROA and the CRTLl gene was not observed. __Conclusion:__ These results suggest that the CRTM locus may play a role in the sex- and joint site-specific pattern of ROA development

An integrated taxonomy of situation perception: situation characteristics and appraisal dimensions

    No full text
Up to date no empirical work has tested the overlap between situation characteristics and appraisal dimensions. The current study aims to contribute a piece to the puzzle of the jangle in situation taxonomies, by empirically linking appraisal dimensions with situation characteristics. A link between situation characteristics and appraisal dimensions would provide a broader understanding of these constructs and allows researchers from both fields to draw from a wider literature
