Adult missing persons:a concept analysis

Missing persons incidents incur considerable societal costs but research has overwhelmingly concentrated on missing children. Understanding the phenomenon among adults is underdeveloped as a result. We conducted an evolutionary concept analysis of the ‘missing person’ in relation to adults. Evolutionary concept analysis provides a structured narrative review methodology which aims to clarify how poorly defined phenomena have been discussed in the professional/academic literature in order to promote conceptual clarity and provide building blocks for future theoretical development. A systematic literature search identified k = 73 relevant papers from which surrogate terms for, and antecedents, consequences, and attributes of the occurrence of adult missing persons were extracted and analysed. The core attributes of the adult missing person are (i) actual or perceived unexpected or unwanted absence accompanied by an absence of information and (ii) a potential adverse risk outcome as perceived by those left behind. The centrality of mental ill-health in actual adult missing persons cases is not reflected in theoretical development which largely comprises descriptive typologies of variable quality and questionable utility. There is a clear need to shift research emphasis towards clinical and psychological domains of inquiry in order to further advance the field of adult missing persons research

Using social media to curate digital artworks can lead to increased and more dynamic public participation and engagement

Many arts research projects have explored new ways of capitalising on the rich potential of social media to reach out beyond the gallery space and encourage audiences to participate and engage with digital artworks. Claire Taylor describes her recent experience of using Twitter galleries to promote engagement with an exhibition featuring the work of four leading artists from Latin America and the US. Twitter curation can provide an audience engagement that is less cumbersome – and more easily trackable – than traditional “exit surveys”, as it allows for immediate feedback through likes and retweets. Moreover, it can help give a sense of the artwork as dynamic when used to encourage participatory artworks, with “spectators” contributing images and becoming active co-creators

Between science fiction and a travelogue: Albalucía Angel's tierra de nadie

Este artículo explora la estructura dual de Tierra de nadie,última novela de Albalucía Angel, como tanto una bitácora de viaje como una obra de ciencia ficción. El primer hilo tiene que ver con lo que la autora ha llamado mujeres galácticas, un grupo de mujeres extraterrestres que descienden a la Tierra y viajan por diversas regiones y circunstancias en busca de desatar la ‘bondad’, y que corresponde a las características de una narrativa de ciencia ficción. El segundo de estos hilos narra las experiencias de una mujer protagonista, claramente colombiana de origen,y narra sus viajes alrededor del globo, experimentando diferentes culturas, desde la europea a la australiana y la india. Estas experiencias reflejan de modo libre las de la autora en sus viajes en estos países, y por lo tanto podría clasificarse como escritura de viajes. De este modo el texto combina y entrelaza las localidades geográficas con la narrativa, cambiando de viajes galácticos a relatos de viajes cotidianos. La conclusión, donde se unen los dos hilos, se interpreta en términos de la posición teórica de Luce Irigaray sobre el proceso de «convertirse en divinidades mujeres»
