Effects of LatticeQCD EoS and Continuous Emission on Some ObseErvables

Effects of lattice-QCD-inspired equations of state and continuous emission on some observables are discussed, by solving a 3D hydrodynamics. The particle multiplicity as well as v2 are found to increase in the mid-rapidity. We also discuss the effects of the initial-condition fluctuations.Comment: 6 pages, 10 figures, prepared for Workshop on Particle Correlations and Fentoscopy, Kromeriz (Czech Republic), Aug. 15-17,200

Tunneling effects on impurity spectral function in coupled asymmetric quantum wires

The impurity spectral function is studied in coupled double quantum wires at finite temperatures. Simple anisotropy in the confinement direction of the wires leads to finite non-diagonal elements of the impurity spectral function matrix. These non-diagonal elements are responsible for tunneling effects and result in pronounced extra peak in the impurity spectral function up to temperatures as high as 20 K.Comment: Accepted in Phys. NeXSPheRIO results on elliptic flow at RHIC and connection with thermalization

Elliptic flow at RHIC is computed event-by-event with NeXSPheRIO. Reasonable agreement with experimental results on v2(η)v_2(\eta) is obtained. Various effects are studied as well: reconstruction of impact parameter direction, freeze out temperature, equation of state (with or without crossover), emission mecanism.Comment: Contribution to the Proceedings of the Quark-Gluon Plasma Thermalization workshop. A double-blind comparison of the effect of the antipsychotics haloperidol and olanzapine on sleep in mania

The effects of haloperidol and olanzapine on polysomnographic measures made in bipolar patients during manic episodes were compared. Twelve DSM-IV mania patients were randomly assigned to receive either haloperidol (mean ± SD final dosage: 5.8 ± 3.8 mg) or olanzapine (mean ± SD final dosage: 13.6 ± 6.9 mg) in a 6-week, double-blind, randomized, controlled clinical trial. One-night polysomnographic evaluation was performed before and after the haloperidol or olanzapine treatment. Psychopathology and illness severity were rated respectively with the Young Mania Rating Scale (YMRS) and the Clinical Global Impressions - Bipolar version (CGI-BP). There was a significant improvement in the YMRS and CGI-BP scores at the end of the study for both groups. Mixed ANOVA used to compare the polysomnographic measures of both drugs demonstrated significant improvement in sleep measures with olanzapine. In the olanzapine group, statistically significant time-drug interaction effects on sleep continuity measures were observed: sleep efficiency (mean ± SEM pre-treatment value: 6.7 ± 20.3%; after-treatment: 85.7 ± 10.9%), total wake time (pre-treatment: 140.0 ± 92.5 min; after-treatment: 55.2 ± 44.2 min), and wake time after sleep onset (pre-treatment: 109.7 ± 70.8 min; after-treatment: 32.2 ± 20.7 min). Conversely, improvement of polysomnographic measures was not observed for the haloperidol group (P > 0.05). These results suggest that olanzapine is more effective than haloperidol in terms of sleep-promoting effects, although olanzapine is comparatively as effective as haloperidol in treating mania. Polysomnography records should provide useful information on how manic states can be affected by psychopharmacological agents

Carrier relaxation due to electron-electron interaction in coupled double quantum well structures

We calculate the electron-electron interaction induced energy-dependent inelastic carrier relaxation rate in doped semiconductor coupled double quantum well nanostructures within the two subband approximation at zero temperature. In particular, we calculate, using many-body theory, the imaginary part of the full self-energy matrix by expanding in the dynamically RPA screened Coulomb interaction, obtaining the intrasubband and intersubband electron relaxation rates in the ground and excited subbands as a function of electron energy. We separate out the single particle and the collective excitation contributions, and comment on the effects of structural asymmetry in the quantum well on the relaxation rate. Effects of dynamical screening and Fermi statistics are automatically included in our many body formalism rather than being incorporated in an ad-hoc manner as one must do in the Boltzman theory.Comment: 26 pages, 5 figure

Oral Infection Caused by Stenotrophomonas maltophilia: A Rare Presentation of an Emerging Opportunistic Pathogen

    Get PDF
Stenotrophomonas maltophilia is an emerging multidrug-resistant opportunistic pathogen with an increasing incidence of nosocomial and community-acquired infection cases, mainly in immunocompromised individuals. Oral cavity infections are rare. To learn more about this infection, a case of oral cavity infection caused by S. maltophilia in an immunosuppressed patient under ventilatory therapy has been presented. The patient presented with multiple nonpainful erosive lesions of the tongue, palate, and oral mucosa. A smear of the oral lesions was performed that revealed the presence of S. maltophilia and Candida albicans, and the patient was treated with fluconazole and sulfamethoxazole associated with trimethoprim in accordance with the antimicrobial susceptibility testing. After 14 days of antibiotic therapy, there were almost no signs of the previous lesions.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

Variable order Mittag-Leffler fractional operators on isolated time scales and application to the calculus of variations

We introduce new fractional operators of variable order on isolated time scales with Mittag-Leffler kernels. This allows a general formulation of a class of fractional variational problems involving variable-order difference operators. Main results give fractional integration by parts formulas and necessary optimality conditions of Euler-Lagrange type.Comment: This is a preprint of a paper whose final and definite form is with Springe
