Memory, as a collectively constructed process, according to Maurice Halbwachs (2006), can be used in the construction of identity of certain groups. This construction represents positive points, as identification with characteristic aspects of societies, but can also be detrimental. An example of this are the memories of women, especially those in the periphery, who are often on the periphery of society. Thus, the book O feminino e o sagrado, by Julia Kristeva and Catherine Clément, presents situations in which it is possible to perceive a forgetfulness regarding the feminine positions in society, from the dominant perspective, of those who have the power of choice to decide which memory will be considered official. Therefore, it’s important to analyze such impositions as they are detrimental and may lead to the forgetting of part of a group's cultural memory.

Tomb 2 belongs to a tholos-type necropolis built in the eastern side of Perdigões enclosure during the Chalcolithic period. The exhaustive analysis of the human remains allowed to obtained various insights about the way this tomb was used during the third millennium BC and data about the individuals found here. In the present study, the samples exhumed from the Atrium and the Chamber of this tomb were considered separately. Both bone assemblages, were recovered commingled, very disturbed and with high levels of fragmentation. The bones were found sprinkled with red pigments, including ochre and cinnabar. A minimal number of, respectively, 26 and 30 individuals were identified in the Atrium and Chamber, including both sexes and all age groups, although an under-representation of non-adults younger than 5 years was identified. A good dental health is suggested by the low prevalence of oral pathologies. Tomb 2 corresponds to a deeply revolved and manipulated funerary context, with several evidences of the co-existence of different mortuary practices. Primary burials, secondary deposition of body parts, and removal of bones are all plausible funerary practices.

The aim was to analyze, through bibliographic surveys, the health care provided to men deprived of their liberty. This is a systematic review using the Virtual Health Library (VHL) database platform. These are articles used to compose this through the descriptors: deprivation of liberty, prison, prisoner, health and prison, between the periods of 2010 to 2020, articles that did not approach the male population deprived of liberty as a research source were discarded. Through the synthesis of the results, it was possible to verify the absence of health professionals in male prisons in São Paulo, high rates of contamination of infectious diseases such as tuberculosis and psychological disorders such as depression. It is concluded that primary care and the multidisciplinary team are extremely important for the prevention of diseases and health promotion, however, the ineffectiveness of existing public policies aimed at people deprived of liberty is noted.

Purpose: To determine the incidence of Piry virus contamination among surgical instruments used with disposable accessories for phacoemulsification during sequential surgeries. Methods: An experimental model was created with 4 pigs' eyes that were contaminated with Piry virus and 4 pigs' eyes that were not contaminated. Phacoemulsification was performed on the eyes, alternating between the contaminated and non-contaminated eyes. From one surgery to another, the operating fields, gloves, scalpel, tweezers, needles, syringes, tips and bag collector from the phacoemulsification machine were exchanged; only the hand piece and the irrigation and aspiration systems were maintained. Results: In the collector bag, three samples from the contaminated eyes (3/4) were positive, and two samples from the non-contaminated (2/4) eyes were also positive; at the tip, one sample from the contaminated eyes (1/4) and two samples of the noncontaminated eyes (2/4) yielded positive results. In the irrigation system, one sample from a non-contaminated eye (1/4) was positive, and in the aspiration system, two samples from contaminated eyes (2/4) and two samples from non-contaminated eyes (2/4) were positive. In the gloves, the samples were positive in two samples from the non-contaminated eyes (2/4) and in two samples from the contaminated eyes (2/4). In the scalpel samples, three contaminated eyes (3/4) and none of the non-contaminated eyes (0/4) were positive; finally, two samples from the anterior chambers of the non-contaminated eyes gathered after surgery were positive. Conclusions: In two non-contaminated eyes, the presence of genetic material was detected after phacoemulsification surgery, demonstrating that the transmission of the genetic material of the Piry virus occurred at some point during the surgery on these non-contaminated eyes when the hand piece and irrigation and aspiration systems were reused between surgeries

The needed link between open science and science diplomacy—A Latin American perspective

    Get PDF
The relevance of science diplomacy and open science in today's world is undeniable. Science diplomacy enables countries to jointly address pressing global challenges, such as climate change, pandemics, and food security. Open science, promoting accessible and transparent research, plays a pivotal role in this context. Nevertheless, the degree of openness is subject to specific circumstances, contingent upon varying factors, including local knowledge and resources. Latin America has not only been at the forefront of pioneering open access strategies, making it an interesting case to study, but it has also shown a tangible interest in using science diplomacy. Our research employs a mixed-methods approach, incorporating a quantitative survey involving 50 organizations and initiatives dedicated to promoting open science in Latin America, along with two qualitative focus group studies. Our primary objective is to assess if and how these entities use science diplomacy to achieve their objectives. Non-policy entities were prioritized due to their institutional stability in the region. We highlight successful strategies and delve into the existing barriers hindering the full implementation of open science principles. Our research aims to enhance collaboration between these organizations and policy and decision-makers by providing a set of recommendations in that direction. By shedding light on the current landscape and dynamics of open science in Latin America, we aspire to focus on science diplomacy, facilitate informed decision-making, and formulate policies that further propel the region along the path of openness, collaboration, and innovation in scientific research

Effects of antiplatelet therapy on stroke risk by brain imaging features of intracerebral haemorrhage and cerebral small vessel diseases: subgroup analyses of the RESTART randomised, open-label trial

    Get PDF
Background Findings from the RESTART trial suggest that starting antiplatelet therapy might reduce the risk of recurrent symptomatic intracerebral haemorrhage compared with avoiding antiplatelet therapy. Brain imaging features of intracerebral haemorrhage and cerebral small vessel diseases (such as cerebral microbleeds) are associated with greater risks of recurrent intracerebral haemorrhage. We did subgroup analyses of the RESTART trial to explore whether these brain imaging features modify the effects of antiplatelet therapy
