    IDF-Autoware: Integrated Development Framework for ROS-Based Self-Driving Systems Using MATLAB/Simulink

    This paper proposes an integrated development framework that enables co-simulation and operation of a Robot Operating System (ROS)-based self-driving system using MATLAB/Simulink (IDF-Autoware). The management of self-driving systems is becoming more complex as the development of self-driving technology progresses. One approach to the development of self-driving systems is the use of ROS; however, the system used in the automotive industry is typically designed using MATLAB/Simulink, which can simulate and evaluate the models used for self-driving. These models are incompatible with ROS-based systems. To allow the two to be used in tandem, it is necessary to rewrite the C++ code and incorporate them into the ROS-based system, which makes development inefficient. Therefore, the proposed framework allows models created using MATLAB/Simulink to be used in a ROS-based self-driving system, thereby improving development efficiency. Furthermore, our evaluations of the proposed framework demonstrated its practical potential

    Universal extra dimensions after Higgs discovery

    We show bounds on five- and six-dimensional universal extra dimension (UED) models from the latest results of the Higgs searches at the LHC and from the electroweak precision data for the S and T parameters. We consider the minimal UED model in five dimensions and the ones in six dimensions. The highest possible ultraviolet cutoff scale for each UED model is evaluated from the electroweak vacuum stability by solving the renormalization group equation of the Higgs self-coupling. This scale turns out to be lower than the conventional one obtained from the perturbativity of the gauge coupling. The resultant 95% C.L. lower bounds on the first Kaluza-Klein scale from the LHC results and from the S, T analysis are 600 and 700 GeV in the minimal UED model, while those in the six-dimensional UED models are 800-1300 GeV and 900-1500 GeV, respectively.Comment: 37 pages, 9 figures, 7 tables (v1); 38 pages, 9 figures, 7 tables, with minor modifications, typos fixed, references added (v2); 37 pages, 10 figures, 7 tables, published version in PRD, figures modified, a figure added, typos fixed, a reference added (v3

    Load Leveling Utilizing Electric Vehicles and their Used Batteries

    The increase of electric vehicles (EVs) has led to some challenging problems and opportunities, especially related to electricity issues. The uncontrolled charging and discharging of EVs can reduce the quality of electricity grid due to frequency and voltage instabilities. However, the optimized utilization of EVs also offers high potential for ancillary service including frequency control and storage. The adoption of EVs and used EV batteries is expected to be able to improve the total economic performance of EVs as well as reduce the environmental impact. In this chapter, the utilization of EVs, together with their used batteries, to support the electricity (load leveling) in a small-scale energy management system (EMS) is analyzed and demonstrated. The demonstration bed consists of five EVs, five used EV batteries, and photovoltaic (PV) panels. The EMS forecasts the load of the office building and the possibly generated power from PV panels. In addition, it also calculates the potential of EVs which are available for joining the load leveling program. EMS will control all the charging and discharging behaviors of connected EVs and used EV batteries, therefore the grid load can be maintained to be lower than the calculated peak-cut threshold. It is found that the utilization of EVs to support small-scale EMS through direct contract is feasible, and hence applicable. At the end of the chapter, some suggestions earned from demonstration test are also listed for further consideration

    Constraint on Universal Extra Dimensions from scalar boson searches

    We show the bounds on five- and six-dimensional Universal Extra Dimension models from the result of the Higgs boson searches at the Large Hadron Collider and electroweak precision measurement. The latest data released by the ATLAS and the CMS gives the lower bounds on Kaluza-Klein scale which are from 650 GeV to 1350 GeV depending on models from Higgs to diboson/diphoton decay signal. The Higgs production cross section can be enhanced by factor 1.5 in crude estimation, diphoton decay signal is suppressed about 10%.     Higgs at ILC in Universal Extra Dimensions in Light of Recent LHC Data

    We present bounds on all the known universal extra dimension models from the latest Higgs search data at the Large Hadron Collider, taking into account the Kaluza-Klein (KK) loop effects on the dominant gluon-fusion production and on the diphoton/digluon decay. The lower bound on the KK scale is from 500GeV to 1TeV depending on the model. We find that the Higgs production cross section with subsequent diphoton decay can be enhanced by a factor 1.5 within this experimental bound, with little dependence on the Higgs mass in between 115GeV and 130GeV. We also show that in such a case the Higgs decay branching ratio into a diphoton final state can be suppressed by a factor 80%, which is marginally observable at a high energy/luminosity option at the International Linear Collider.     Gymnemic acids inhibit rabbit glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate dehydrogenase and induce a smearing of its electrophoretic band and dephosphorylation

    AbstractGymnemic acids (GA) inhibited rabbit muscle glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate dehydrogenase (GAPDH) activity. Binding of GA to GAPDH was observed by surface plasmon resonance measurement. Incubation of GAPDH with GA induced a smearing of the GAPDH band in SDS–PAGE. The GA-induced smearing was diminished by prior incubation of GA with γ-cyclodextrin or by GA treatment with NAD. GA treatment did not affect the electrophoretic mobility of glucose-6-phosphate isomerase and dehydrogenase. GA treatment diminished the GAPDH band detected by an antibody to phosphoserine, but did not affect the phosphoserine bands of glucose-6-phosphate isomerase and dehydrogenase. These results indicated that GA specifically induced dephosphorylation of GAPDH
