Analysis of cubic permutation polynomials for turbo codes

Quadratic permutation polynomials (QPPs) have been widely studied and used as interleavers in turbo codes. However, less attention has been given to cubic permutation polynomials (CPPs). This paper proves a theorem which states sufficient and necessary conditions for a cubic permutation polynomial to be a null permutation polynomial. The result is used to reduce the search complexity of CPP interleavers for short lengths (multiples of 8, between 40 and 352), by improving the distance spectrum over the set of polynomials with the largest spreading factor. The comparison with QPP interleavers is made in terms of search complexity and upper bounds of the bit error rate (BER) and frame error rate (FER) for AWGN and for independent fading Rayleigh channels. Cubic permutation polynomials leading to better performance than quadratic permutation polynomials are found for some lengths.Comment: accepted for publication to Wireless Personal Communications (19 pages, 4 figures, 5 tables). Magnetic ground state of pyrochlore oxides close to metal-insulator boundary probed by muon spin rotation

Magnetism of ruthernium pyrochlore oxides A2Ru2O7 (A = Hg, Cd, Ca), whose electronic properties within a localized ion picture are characterized by non-degenerate t2g orbitals (Ru5+, 4d3) and thereby subject to geometrical frustration, has been investigated by muon spin rotation/relaxation (muSR) technique. The A cation (mostly divalent) was varied to examine the effect of covalency (Hg > Cd > Ca) on their electronic property. In a sample with A = Hg that exhibits a clear metal-insulator (MI) transition below >> 100 K (which is associated with a weak structural transition), a nearly commensurate magnetic order is observed to develop in accordance with the MI transition. Meanwhile, in the case of A = Cd where the MI transition is suppressed to the level of small anomaly in the resistivity, the local field distribution probed by muon indicates emergence of a certain magnetic inhomogeneity below {\guillemotright} 30 K. Moreover, in Ca2Ru2O7 that remains metallic, we find a highly inhomogeneous local magnetism below >>25 K that comes from randomly oriented Ru moments and thus described as a "frozen spin liquid" state. The systematic trend of increasing randomness and itinerant character with decreasing covalency suggests close relationship between these two characters. As a reference for the effect of orbital degeneracy and associated Jahn-Teller instability, we examine a tetravalent ruthernium pyrochlore, Tl2Ru2O7 (Ru4+, 4d4), where the result of muSR indicates a non-magnetic ground state that is consistent with the formation of the Haldane chains suggested by neutron diffraction experiment.Comment: 12 pages, 13 figure

    Coded Modulation for Satellite Broadcasting

In this paper, three-level block coded 8-PSK modulations, suitable for satellite broadcasting of digital TV signals, are presented. A design principle to achieve unequal error protection is introduced. The coding scheme is designed in such a way that the information bits carrying the basic definition TV signal have a lower error rate than the high definition information bits. The large error coefficients, formally associated with standard mapping by set partitioning, are reduced by considering a nonstandard partition of an 8-PSK signal set. The bits-to-signal mapping induced by this partition allows the use of suboptimal low-complexity soft-decision decoding of binary block codes. Parallel operation of the first and second stage decoders is possible, for high data rate transmission. Furthermore, there is no error propagation from the first-stage decoder to the second-stage decoder

Suppression of Magnetic Order by Pressure in BaFe2As2

We performed the dc resistivity and the ZF 75As-NMR measurement of BaFe2As2 under high pressure. The T-P phase diagram of BaFe2As2 determined from resistivity anomalies and the ZF 75As-NMR clearly revealed that the SDW anomaly is quite robust against P.Comment: 2 pages, 2 figure

Pressure-induced enhancement of superconductivity and superconducting-superconducting transition in CaC_6\_6

We measured the electrical resistivity, ϱ(T)\varrho(T), of superconducting CaC_6\_6 at ambient and high pressure up to 16 GPa. For P≤P \leq8 GPa, we found a large increase of T_cT\_c with pressure from 11.5 up to 15.1 K. At 8 GPa, T_cT\_c drops and levels off at 5 K above 10 GPa. Correspondingly, the residual ϱ\varrho increases by ≈\approx 200 times and the ϱ(T)\varrho(T) behavior becomes flat. The recovery of the pristine behavior after depressurization is suggestive of a phase transition at 8 GPa between two superconducting phases with good and bad metallic properties, the latter with a lower T_cT\_c and more static disorder
