    Summand-injectivity of interval covers and monotonicity of interval resolution global dimensions

    Recently, there is growing interest in the use of relative homology algebra to develop invariants using interval covers and interval resolutions (i.e., right minimal approximations and resolutions relative to interval-decomposable modules) for multi-parameter persistence modules. In this paper, the set of all interval modules over a given poset plays a central role. Firstly, we show that the restriction of interval covers of modules to each indecomposable direct summand is injective. This result suggests a way to simplify the computation of interval covers. Secondly, we show the monotonicity of the interval resolution global dimension, i.e., if QQ is a full subposet of PP, then the interval resolution global dimension of QQ is not larger than that of PP. Finally, we provide a complete classification of posets whose interval resolution global dimension is zero.Comment: 23 page

    Noncommutative Yang-Mills in IIB Matrix Model

    We show that twisted reduced models can be interpreted as noncommutative Yang-Mills theory. Based upon this correspondence, we obtain noncommutative Yang-Mills theory with D-brane backgrounds in IIB matrix model. We propose that IIB matrix model with D-brane backgrounds serve as a concrete definition of noncommutative Yang-Mills. We investigate D-instanton solutions as local excitations on D3-branes. When instantons overlap, their interaction can be well described in gauge theory and AdS/CFT correspondence. We show that IIB matrix model gives us the consistent potential with IIB supergravity when they are well separated.Comment: 21pages, LaTeX, no figures, typos correcte

    Note on a fermionic solution of the matrix model and noncommutative superspace

    We present a new fermionic solution of the supersymmetric matrix model. The solution satisfies the commutation and anticommutation relations for noncommutative superspace.     Isolation and identification of the antimicrobial substance included in tempeh using Rhizopus stolonifer NBRC 30816 for fermentation

    In this study, we focus on the antimicrobial properties of tempeh, a soybean fermented food, against oral bacteria. Tempeh showed antimicrobial activity against dental caries pathogenic bacterium Streptococcus mutans at a final concentration of 1 mg/mL. An antimicrobial substance contained in tempeh was present in the 100 kDa or greater fraction generated by ultrafiltration, but it was found not to be proteinaceous by native-PAGE, SDS-PAGE and protein degradation tests. Next, when the fraction was purified with an ODS column, the 80% and 100% methanol eluates showed antimicrobial activity against S. mutans. The 100% methanol eluate was further subjected to a 2nd column purification, and isolation of the target was confirmed by HPLC. When the isolated material was analyzed by ESI-MS, the m/z was 279.234. Further analysis by Raman spectroscopy revealed a peak similar to linoleic acid. This substance also possessed antimicrobial properties equivalent to linoleic acid

    Ferromagnetism and Superconductivity in Uranium Compounds

    Recent advances on ferromagnetic superconductors, UGe2, URhGe and UCoGe are presented. The superconductivity (SC) peacefully coexists with the ferromagnetism (FM), forming the spin-triplet state of Cooper pairs. The striking new phenomena, such as SC reinforced by the magnetic field, are associated with Ising-type ferromagnetic fluctuations. A variety of ferromagnetic ordered moments between UGe2, URhGe and UCoGe affords to understand the relation between FM, tricriticality and SC.Comment: 11 pages, 16 figures, accepted for publication in J.     Onchocercomas in Guatemala, with Special Reference to Appearance of New Nodules and Parasite Content

    To determine the rate of appearance of new nodules during a specified period, a follow-up study on onchocercomas that had been removed was carried out in San Vicente Pacaya, Guatemala, between June 1976 and April 1977. Incidence rate, or rate of nodules appearing in initially negative subjects, was studied in relation to the degree of endemicity. Rates in a period of 7?8 months in high, medium, and low endemic areas were 0.231, 0.083, and 0.022, respectively. The rate of nodule appearance in persons nodulectomized, or rate of nodules appearing in subjects who were surgically rendered negative during the first survey, was 45.3%, 36.4%, and 4.5% in those areas. The highest rate of nodule appearance was observed in patients with microfilariae in both the skin and nodules, followed by patients with either microfilariae or nodules. In highly endemic areas, new nodules appeared in 13.2% of persons without microfilariae or nodules, while in low endemic areas even patients with nodules earlier were less likely to have developed new ones. The performance of the nodulectomy teams (brigadas) was evaluated by confirming the worms in nodules. By gross examination alone, about 6% of nodules removed by brigadas did not contain worms. Nodules containing worms were examined for microfilariae to clarify their role as a source of microfilariae. Microfilariae were not detected in some of these nodules, especially in small ones. In contrast, microfilariae emerged from 80% of those larger than 10 mm. Number of worms per nodule, their sex, and the fecundity of female worms were examined by a collagenase technique. The average number of worms per nodule was 0.6 males and 1.2 females. The highest burden in any one nodule was seven worms, four females and three males. Most nodules had one female and either one male worm or none. Intrauterine microfilariae were found in most females from nodules shared with a male, while solitary females were not gravid. Solitary females were likely to be found in small nodules and large nodules were more likely to include both sexes

    Upper critical field in superconductors near ferromagnetic quantum critical points; UCoGe

    We study the strong-coupling superconductivity near ferromagnetic quantum critical points, mainly focusing on the upper critical fields Hc2H_{c2}. Based on our simple model calculations, we discuss experimentally observed unusual behaviors of Hc2H_{c2} in a recently discovered ferromagnetic superconductor UCoGe. Especially, the large anisotropy between Hc2∥aH_{c2}\parallel a-axis and Hc2∥cH_{c2}\parallel c-axis, and the strong-coupling behaviors in Hc2∥aH_{c2}^{\parallel a} are investigated. We also examine effects of non-analytic corrections in the spin susceptibility on the superconductivity, which can arise from effective long range interactions due to particle-hole excitations.Comment: Proceedings of ICHE2010, Toky
