Insight into the role of phosphatidylserine in complement-mediated synapse loss in Alzheimer's disease.
The innate immune system plays an integral role in the brain. Synaptic pruning, a fundamental process in developmental circuit refinement, is partially mediated by neuroimmune signalling at the synapse. In particular, microglia, the major tissue-resident macrophages of the brain, and the classical complement cascade, an innate immune pathway that aids in the clearance of unwanted material, have been implicated in mediating synapse elimination. Emerging data suggest that improper signalling of the innate immune pathway at the synapse leads to pathological synapse loss in age-related neurodegenerative diseases, including Alzheimer's disease. Now the key questions are whether synapses are targeted by complement and, if so, which synapses are vulnerable to elimination. Here, we review recent work implicating C1q, the initiator of the classical complement cascade, and surrounding glia as mediators of synapse loss. We examine how synapses could undergo apoptosis-like pathways in the Alzheimer brain, which may lead to the externalisation of phosphatidylserine on synapses. Finally, we discuss potential roles for microglia and astrocytes in this 'synaptic apoptosis'. Critical insight into neuroimmune regulatory pathways on synapses will be key to developing effective targets against pathological synapse loss in dementia
ANALYSIS OF THE CHEMICAL COMPOSITION OF CHAROITE ROCKS
The unique charoite mineralization, established on the Murun alkaline massif in the northwestern part of the Aldan shield on the border of the Irkutsk region and Yakutia, is still of great interest to some of researchers (geologists, crystallographers, geochemists, etc.). The earliest spectroscopy of the GRB 030329 afterglow with 6-m telescope
The earliest BTA (SAO RAS 6-m telescope) spectroscopic observations of the
GRB 030329 optical transient (OT) are presented, which almost coincide in time
with the "first break" ( day after the GRB) of the OT light curve.
The beginning of spectral changes are seen as early as hours after
the GRB. So, the onset of the spectral changes for day indicates that the
contribution from Type Ic supernova (SN) into the OT optical flux can be
detected earlier. The properties of early spectra of GRB 030329/SN 2003dh can
be consistent with a shock moving into a stellar wind formed from the pre-SN.
Such a behavior (similar to that near the UV shock breakout in SNe) can be
explained by the existence of a dense matter in the immediate surroundings of
massive stellar GRB/SN progenitor). The urgency is emphasized of observation of
early GRB/SN spectra for solving a question that is essential for understanding
GRB physical mechanism: {\it Do all} long-duration gamma-ray bursts are caused
by (or physically connected to) {\it ordinary} core-collapse supernovae? If
clear association of normal/ordinary core-collapse SNe (SN Ib/c, and others SN
types) and GRBs would be revealed in numbers of cases, we may have strong
observational limits for gamma-ray beaming and for real energetics of the GRB

Apple scab detection using CNN and Transfer Learning

simultaneous reduction of pesticide application, thereby promoting the improvement of food
security. The scope of this research is apple scab detection in the early stage of development using
mobile phones and artificial intelligence based on convolutional neural network (CNN)
applications. The research considers data acquisition and CNN training. Two datasets were
collected - with images of scab infected fruits and leaves of an apple tree. However, data
acquisition is a time-consuming process and scab appearance has a probability factor. Therefore,
transfer learning is an appropriate training methodology. The goal of this research was to select
the most suitable dataset for transfer learning for the apple scab detection domain and to evaluate
the transfer learning impact comparing it with learning from scratch. The statistical analysis
confirmed the positive effect of transfer learning on CNN performance with significance
level 0.05
Inclusion Problems in the Russian General Education System

Published online 6 October 2023.The research examines the problem of implementing the principle of inclusion in the Russian education system as contributing to the development of inclusive society. The system and actor approaches were used to consider educational inclusion from the perspective of a wide range of actors. The study analyzes the main indicators characterizing the state and development of an inclusive education system taking into account certain barriers to its development. The main problems of implementing educational inclusion into the Russian system of general education are investigated. These include the definition of the object of inclusion, staffing, physical accessibility of educational institutions, adaptation of educational programs, funding, and willingness of different actors of the educational process to inclusion. The main positive changes and difficulties that arise during the implementation of inclusion in the Russian general education system are outlined. Key measures that should be taken to lift existing barriers and promote inclusion are proposed
Cyclotron resonant scattering feature simulations. I. Thermally averaged cyclotron scattering cross sections, mean free photon-path tables, and electron momentum sampling
Electron cyclotron resonant scattering features (CRSFs) are observed as
absorption-like lines in the spectra of X-ray pulsars. A significant fraction
of the computing time for Monte Carlo simulations of these quantum mechanical
features is spent on the calculation of the mean free path for each individual
photon before scattering, since it involves a complex numerical integration
over the scattering cross section and the (thermal) velocity distribution of
the scattering electrons.
We aim to numerically calculate interpolation tables which can be used in
CRSF simulations to sample the mean free path of the scattering photon and the
momentum of the scattering electron. The tables also contain all the
information required for sampling the scattering electron's final spin.
The tables were calculated using an adaptive Simpson integration scheme. The
energy and angle grids were refined until a prescribed accuracy is reached. The
tables are used by our simulation code to produce artificial CRSF spectra. The
electron momenta sampled during these simulations were analyzed and justified
using theoretically determined boundaries.
We present a complete set of tables suited for mean free path calculations of
Monte Carlo simulations of the cyclotron scattering process for conditions
expected in typical X-ray pulsar accretion columns (0.01<B/B_{crit}<=0.12,
where B_{crit}=4.413x10^{13} G and 3keV<=kT<15keV). The sampling of the tables
is chosen such that the results have an estimated relative error of at most
1/15 for all points in the grid. The tables are available online at
