Introduction: Allergic respiratory diseases broken out after an exposure to airborne pollen, as asthma and allergic rhinitis, are deeply increasing and they represent one of the major public health problems nowadays, affecting about 40% of European population. In Portugal, grass and Olea europaea pollen are certainly one of the main sources of athmospheric aeroallergens and as such, one of the main causes of respiratory allergy.
For these reasons, it is useful the development of new strategies for prevention and treatment of these pathologies. The execution of aerobiological analysis including pollen calendars and/or immunoassays for the detection and quantification of allergens which could forecast the allergenic potential of the athmosphere are quite relevant since they would contribute to develop prevention measures of allergic respiratory diseases. The aim of this study was to evaluate the putative correlation between the concentration of some of the major allergens of and with their pollen counts.
Methodology: On a meteorological platform at the town center of Evora (south Portugal), ambient air was sampled at 800L/min with a Chemvol high-volume cascade impactor equipped with stages PM>10µm, 10 µm>PM>2.5µm. The polyurethane impacting substrate was extracted with 0.1M NH4HCO3, pH8.1, supplemented with 0.1% BSA. The major pollen allergens from grass Phleum p 5 and olive Ole e 1 were determined with allergen specific ELISA´s. Airborne pollen of and Olea europaea simultaneously monitored with a Burkard Seven Day Recording Volumetric Spore Trap* , between the 30th of April and the 8th of July of 2009. Both samplers were placed side-by-side with air input at the same level.
Results: During the pollen season of 2009, high values of grass pollen were recorded between May 2th and June 1 th. It was also observed that the air content of Phl p5 or Ole e1 aeroallergens were directly correlated with airborne pollen counts of Poaceae and Oleaceae, respectively.
Conclusions: These results suggest that the directly quantification of aeroallergens may contribute, together with pollen counts of air samples, to define the allergic risk with higher precision.

Singular value decomposition and matrix reorderings in quantum information theory
We review Schmidt and Kraus decompositions in the form of singular value
decomposition using operations of reshaping, vectorization and reshuffling. We
use the introduced notation to analyse the correspondence between quantum
states and operations with the help of Jamiolkowski isomorphism. The presented
matrix reorderings allow us to obtain simple formulae for the composition of
quantum channels and partial operations used in quantum information theory. To
provide examples of the discussed operations we utilize a package for the
Mathematica computing system implementing basic functions used in the
calculations related to quantum information theory.Comment: 11 pages, no figures, see

Delimiting floristic biogeographic districts in the Cerrado and assessing their conservation status
This is the author accepted manuscript. The final version is available from Springer via the DOI in this recordThe Cerrado is a biodiversity hotspot in central Brazil that represents the largest
expanse of savanna in the Neotropics. Here, we aim to identify and delimit
biogeographic districts within the Cerrado, to provide a geographic framework for
conservation planning and scientific research prioritisation. We used data from 588 sites
with tree species inventories distributed across the entire Cerrado. To identify districts,
we clustered sites based on their similarity in tree species composition. To investigate
why districts differ in composition, we 1) determined the proportion of tree species in
different districts that derive from other biomes, to assess the influence of neighbouring
biomes upon geographically marginal districts and 2) assayed key climatic differences
between districts, to test the effect of environmental factors upon compositional
differences. We found seven biogeographic districts within the Cerrado. Marginal
districts have a large proportion of tree species characteristic of Amazonia and Atlantic
Forest, but the Cerrado endemic species are also important. Further, districts differed
significantly for multiple climatic variables. Finally, to provide a preliminary
conservation assessment of the different districts, we assessed their rate of land
conversion and current coverage by protected areas. We found that districts in the south
and southwest of the Cerrado have experienced the greatest land conversion and are the
least protected, while those in the north and northeast are less impacted and better
protected. Overall, our results show how biogeographic analyses can contribute to
conservation planning by giving clear guidelines on which districts merit greater
conservation and management attention.Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível SuperiorConselho Nacional de Desenvolvimento Científico e Tecnológic
Activation of PI3K Is Indispensable for Interleukin 7–mediated Viability, Proliferation, Glucose Use, and Growth of T Cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia Cells
Interleukin (IL)-7 is essential for normal T cell development. Previously, we have shown that IL-7 increases viability and proliferation of T cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia (T-ALL) cells by up-regulating Bcl-2 and down-regulating the cyclin-dependent kinase inhibitor p27kip1. Here, we examined the signaling pathways via which IL-7 mediates these effects. We investigated mitogen-activated protein kinase (MEK)–extracellular signal-regulated kinase (Erk) and phosphatidylinositol-3-kinase (PI3K)–Akt (protein kinase B) pathways, which have active roles in T cell expansion and have been implicated in tumorigenesis. IL-7 induced activation of the MEK–Erk pathway in T-ALL cells; however, inhibition of the MEK–Erk pathway by the use of the cell-permeable inhibitor PD98059, did not affect IL-7–mediated viability or cell cycle progression of leukemic cells. IL-7 induced PI3K-dependent phosphorylation of Akt and its downstream targets GSK-3, FOXO1, and FOXO3a. PI3K activation was mandatory for IL-7–mediated Bcl-2 up-regulation, p27kip1 down-regulation, Rb hyperphosphorylation, and consequent viability and cell cycle progression of T-ALL cells. PI3K signaling was also required for cell size increase, up-regulation of CD71, expression of the glucose transporter Glut1, uptake of glucose, and maintenance of mitochondrial integrity. Our results implicate PI3K as a major effector of IL-7–induced viability, metabolic activation, growth and proliferation of T-ALL cells, and suggest that PI3K and its downstream effectors may represent molecular targets for therapeutic intervention in T-ALL
Hastings' additivity counterexample via Dvoretzky's theorem
The goal of this note is to show that Hastings' counterexample to the
additivity of minimal output von Neumann entropy can be readily deduced from a
sharp version of Dvoretzky's theorem on almost spherical sections of convex
bodies.Comment: 12 pages; v.2: added references, Appendix A expanded to make the

Propiedades Psicométricas del Inventario Psicológico de Ejecución Deportiva (IPED) en deportistas peruanos de Alto Rendimiento
To measure athlete's success and his sports performance, it is required to quantify the maximum performance developed during seasons of trainings and championships; using a valid, reliable, and adapted to peruvian context instrument. However, caution is urged when considering there is no psychometric evidence to support the use of any scale related to peruvian high performance athletes' sample. The current study was designed to evaluate the psychometric properties of the Sports Performance Psychological Inventory (IPED) in the mentioned sample. Method: Participated 255 peruvian athletes with ages between 14 and 38 years (N:23; SD: 4.29); who actively represents the country and in sports modalities affiliated with the Peruvian Sports Institute (IPD). For the collection of information, a sociodemographic record, Sports Performance Psychological Inventory (IPED) and the Mental Toughness Questionnaire (MTQ) were used. Results: IPED model demonstrated, that the seven-dimensional model had an acceptable fit (SBx2 = 2243.096 / df = 798; CFI=. 955; SRMR=. 095; RMSEA=. 084 [IC90%:. 080 -. 069] and reliability analyses revealed high internal consistency (ω =. 841 > ω =. 754). In addition, scores correlated positively between IPP and MTQ dimensions (AC=. 678; CAN=. 557; CAT=. 457; CVI=. 328; NM=. 425; CAP=. 641; CAC=. 662) and Control (AC=. 558; CAN=. 733; CAT=. 682; CVI=. 171; NM=. 272; CAP=. 432; CAC=. 563) Conclusion: The IPED provides adequate evidence of validity and reliability to measure sports performanc
