The polycrystalline Bi1-xEuxFeO 3 (x=0, 0.05, and 0.1) ceramics were synthesized by conventional solid-state route. X-ray diffraction studies and Raman measurements revealed that the compounds crystallized in rhombohedral structure with R3c space group. In addition, a nominal percentage of orthorhombic phase was observed in 10 mol.% Eu substituted BiFeO3. Appearance of weak ferromagnetism and significant increase in Néel temperature TN in the substituted compounds were discussed on the basis of structural distortions. Enhanced remnant magnetization of 75 memu/g and large coercive field of 6.4kÖe were observed in 10 mol.% Eu substituted BiFeO3. Equivalent circuit model was employed to estimate the grain and grain boundary contributions towards the electrical parameters such as resistance and conductivity. Non-Debye type of relaxation was confirmed from impedance and electric modulus studies. The obtained frequency variation of ac conductivity at different temperature obeys Jonscher's power law and is consistent with the correlated barrier hopping model. Temperature variations of ac conductivity explained that electronic hopping, oxygen vacancies movement, and/or creation of defects contribute to conduction in all the compounds

n this work, Eu substituted La0.7Sr0.3MnO 3 (LSMO) is studied to achieve high temperature coefficient of resistance (TCR). The compounds La0.7-xEuxSr 0.3MnO3 with x=0, 0.1 0.2 and 0.3 are prepared by solid state reaction route and their structural and transport properties are examined by different characterization techniques. The metal-semiconductor/insulator transition temperature (TMI) decreases from 390 K (for x=0) to 240 K (for x=0.3) with decrease in average ionic radius 〈rA〉 of A-site. The maximum TCR percentage of La0.7-xEuxSr 0.3MnO3 compound is found to be increased for x=0.2 (1.9%) and for x=0.3 (3.36%) compared to its parent compound La0.7Sr 0.3MnO3 (1.1%). The substitution of Eu increases the lattice distortion, which enhances the TCR value from 1.1% to 3.36%. The robustness of distortion increases with decreasing 〈rA〉 which is well correlated with the high magneto-resistance, and high TCR findings

BiFeO3 (BFO) and Bi0.85Sm0.15Fe0.90Sc0.10O3 (BSFSO) ceramics were synthesized by conventional solid state route. X-ray diffraction measurements revealed that an orthorhombic Pnma structure evolved with a phase fraction of 84% in the rhombohedral R3c structure of BFO upon the substitution of Sm and Sc. The changes in the intensity and the frequency of Raman modes also corroborated the structural transformation in the BSFSO compound. A decrease in grain size, reduction in porosity, and improved density were observed in the BSFSO compound. An enhanced remanent magnetization of 0.2 emu/g and coercive field of 6.2 kOe were observed, which were attributed to the structural change as well as the destruction of the spin structure with the substitution. Impedance and leakage current measurements revealed that the insulating character of BFO was improved with the substitution of Sm and Sc in BFO and was explained based on the bond enthalpy concept. The enhanced magnetic properties along with the improved insulating character of BSFSO compound will be suitable for device applications

Polycrystalline BiFe1-xScxO3 (x=0, 0.05, 0.1 and 0.15) compounds are prepared using solid state reaction. The XRD patterns show that all compounds are crystallized in rhombohedral structure with R3c space group. An induced weak ferromagnetism in Sc substituted BiFeO 3 due to suppression of spiral modulated spin structure is revealed. In addition, a spin glass like behaviour is observed from the zero field cooled (ZFC) and field cooled (FC) magnetization curves in the low temperature region. Further, the coupling between the ferroelectric and (anti) ferromagnetic orders is evident from the appearance of anomaly in the dielectric data near the magnetic Néel temperature (373 °C). The reduction of oxygen vacancies due to Sc substitution is evident from the ac conductivity data and the suppressed anomaly in dielectric data at 220 °C. The temperature dependence of ac conductivity is consistent with correlated barrier hopping (CBH) model. The temperature dependent ac conductivity and activation energies indicate that electronic conduction, oxygen vacancies movement and creation of defects are the prime contributors to the ac conductivity in measured temperature regions. The improved magnetic and electrical properties due to the structural modification are prominent for novel device applications

A new secure multipath routing using sub-set of overlay nodes to minimize delay

We study overlay architecture for dynamic routing, such that only a subset of devices (overlay nodes) need to make the dynamic routing decisions. We determine the essential collection of nodes that must bifurcate traffic for achieving the maximum multi-commodity network throughput.  We apply our optimal node placement algorithm to several graphs and the results show that a small segment of overlay nodes is sufficient for achieving maximum throughput. we propose a threshold-based policy (BP-T) and a heuristic policy (OBP),which dynamically control traffic bifurcations at overlay nodes. Policy BP-T is proved to maximize throughput for the case when underlay paths do no overlap

The polycrystalline Bi1-xHoxFeO3 (x=0, 0.05, 0.1) compounds were synthesized by conventional solid-state route. Rietveld refinement reveals that all the compounds were stabilized in rhombohedral structure with R3c (IUCr No. 161) space group. A competing ferro and anti-ferro magnetic interaction was observed in Ho-substituted compounds. A change in the Fe-O-Fe bond-angle and Fe-O bond distance increase the Neel Transition temperature with increasing Ho concentration. The appearance of peak in imaginary part of impedance (Z") for each concentration and shifting of this peak with temperature towards higher frequency side indicated that the presence of electric relaxations. Correlated Barrier Hopping model (CBH) was employed to explain the frequency and temperature dependence of ac conductivity and the mechanism of transport in the material BFO and Ho substituted BFO. Density of states near Fermi level was calculated by using the ac conductivity data

Translational Up-Regulation and High-Level Protein Expression from Plasmid Vectors by mTOR Activation via Different Pathways in PC3 and 293T Cells

BACKGROUND: Though 293T cells are widely used for expression of proteins from transfected plasmid vectors, the molecular basis for the high-level expression is yet to be understood. We recently identified the prostate carcinoma cell line PC3 to be as efficient as 293T in protein expression. This study was undertaken to decipher the molecular basis of high-level expression in these two cell lines. METHODOLOGY/PRINCIPAL FINDINGS: In a survey of different cell lines for efficient expression of platelet-derived growth factor-B (PDGF-B), β-galactosidase (β-gal) and green fluorescent protein (GFP) from plasmid vectors, PC3 was found to express at 5-50-fold higher levels compared to the bone metastatic prostate carcinoma cell line PC3BM and many other cell lines. Further, the efficiency of transfection and level of expression of the reporters in PC3 were comparable to that in 293T. Comparative analyses revealed that the high level expression of the reporters in the two cell lines was due to increased translational efficiency. While phosphatidic acid (PA)-mediated activation of mTOR, as revealed by drastic reduction in reporter expression by n-butanol, primarily contributed to the high level expression in PC3, multiple pathways involving PA, PI3K/Akt and ERK1/2 appear to contribute to the abundant reporter expression in 293T. Thus the extent of translational up-regulation attained through the concerted activation of mTOR by multiple pathways in 293T could be achieved through its activation primarily by the PA pathway in PC3. CONCLUSIONS/SIGNIFICANCE: Our studies reveal that the high-level expression of proteins from plasmid vectors is effected by translational up-regulation through mTOR activation via different signaling pathways in the two cell lines and that PC3 is as efficient as 293T for recombinant protein expression. Further, PC3 offers an advantage in that the level of expression of the protein can be regulated by simple addition of n-butanol to the culture medium
