Design of Different Controllable Inverters using a Novel Technology Quantum Dot Cellular Automata (QCA)

    Get PDF
Application of quantum-dot is a promising technology for implementing digital systems at nano-scale. Quantum-dot Cellular Automata (QCA) is a system with low power consumption and a potentially high density and regularity. Also, QCA supports the new devices with nanotechnology architecture. This technique works based on electron interactions inside quantum-dots leading to emergence of quantum features and decreasing the problem of future integrated circuits in terms of size. In this paper, we will successfully design, implement and simulate a new 2-input and 3-input XOR gate (exclusive OR gate) based on QCA with the minimum delay, area and complexities. The state of each cell is affected in a very nonlinear way by the states of its neighbors. A line of these cells can be used to transmit binary information. We use these cells to design inverters, programmable logic gates, dedicated AND and OR gates, and non-interfering wire crossings. Complex arrays are simulated which implement the exclusive-OR function and a single-bit full adder

Effect of complex wavelet transform filter on thyroid tumor classification in three-dimensional ultrasound

    Get PDF
Ultrasonography has great potential in differentiating malignant thyroid nodules from the benign ones. However, visual interpretation is limited by interobserver variability, and further, the speckle distribution poses a challenge during the classification process. This article thus presents an automated system for tumor classification in three-dimensional contrast-enhanced ultrasonography data sets. The system first processes the contrast-enhanced ultrasonography images using complex wavelet transform-based filter to mitigate the effect of speckle noise. The higher order spectra features are then extracted and used as input for training and testing a fuzzy classifier. In the off-line training system, higher order spectra features are extracted from a set of images known as the training images. These higher order spectra features along with the clinically assigned ground truth are used to train the classifier and obtain an estimate of the classifier or training parameters. The ground truth tells the class label of the image (i.e. whether the image belongs to a benign or malignant nodule). During the online testing phase, the estimated classifier parameters are applied on the higher order spectra features that are extracted from the testing images to predict their class labels. The predicted class labels are compared with their corresponding original ground truth to evaluate the performance of the classifier. Without utilizing the complex wavelet transform filter, the fuzzy classifier demonstrated an accuracy of 91.6%, while utilizing the complex wavelet transform filter, the accuracy significantly boosted to 99.1%

Contrast-Induced Nephropathy in Renal Transplant Recipients: A Single Center Experience

    Get PDF
BACKGROUND: Contrast-induced nephropathy (CIN) in native kidneys is associated with a significant increase in mortality and morbidity. Data regarding CIN in renal allografts are limited, however. We retrospectively studied CIN in renal allografts at our institution: its incidence, risk factors, and effect on long-term outcomes including allograft loss and death. METHODS: One hundred thirty-five renal transplant recipients undergoing 161 contrast-enhanced computed tomography (CT) scans or coronary angiograms (Cath) between years 2000 and 2014 were identified. Contrast agents were iso- or low osmolar. CIN was defined as a rise in serum creatinine (SCr) by \u3e0.3 mg/dl or 25% from baseline within 4 days of contrast exposure. After excluding 85 contrast exposures where patients had no SCr within 4 days of contrast administration, 76 exposures (CT: RESULTS: Incidence of CIN was 13% following both, CT (6 out of 45) and Cath (4 out of 31). Significant bivariate predictors of CIN were IV fluid administration ( CONCLUSION: CIN is common in kidney transplant recipients, and there is room for quality improvement with regards to careful renal function monitoring post-contrast exposure. A tachyonic extension of the stringy no-go theorem

We investigate the tachyon-dilaton-metric system to study the "graceful exit" problem in string theoretic inflation, where tachyon plays the role of the scalar field. From the phase space analysis, we find that the inflationary phase does not smoothly connect to a Friedmann-Robertson-Walker (FRW) expanding universe, thereby providing a simple tachyonic extension of the recently proved stringy no-go theorem.Comment: TeX file (PHYZZX), 10 pages, change in the title, many changes in the text (the version to appear in Phys. Black hole entropy functions and attractor equations

    Get PDF
The entropy and the attractor equations for static extremal black hole solutions follow from a variational principle based on an entropy function. In the general case such an entropy function can be derived from the reduced action evaluated in a near-horizon geometry. BPS black holes constitute special solutions of this variational principle, but they can also be derived directly from a different entropy function based on supersymmetry enhancement at the horizon. Both functions are consistent with electric/magnetic duality and for BPS black holes their corresponding OSV-type integrals give identical results at the semi-classical level. We clarify the relation between the two entropy functions and the corresponding attractor equations for N=2 supergravity theories with higher-derivative couplings in four space-time dimensions. We discuss how non-holomorphic corrections will modify these entropy functions.Comment: 21 pages,LaTeX,minor change

Antimicrobial resistance and virulence characteristics of Vibrio vulnificus, Vibrio parahaemolyticus and Vibrio harveyi from natural disease outbreaks of marine/estuarine fishes

    Get PDF
Vibrio vulnificus, Vibrio parahaemolyticus and Vibrio harveyi are the causative agents of the most severe diseases of marine and brackish aquaculture systems. These are also associated with serious ailments in humans. The present paper unravels the virulence features/genes and antimicrobial resistance (AMR) phenotypes/genes of these Vibrio spp. isolated from natural disease outbreaks of marine/estuarine fishes of India for the first time. Results on virulence features showed that V. vulnificus infected fish can pose public health risk. While, it has been found clinically that V. parahaemolyticus without tdh and trh genes are pathogenic to fish, even though they are reported to be, not associated with human diseases. It was significant to note that virulence features of V. harveyi were induced at increased salinity. Analysis based on the percentage prevalence of susceptible isolates and variation coefficient of zone diameters categorized 17 antibiotics in terms of their efficiency against each fish pathogenic species. Multiple antibiotic resistance index (MARi) of the isolates ranged between 0.058 and 0.47. Results on MARi and percentage of multidrug resistance strains indicated that >50% of the isolates were from low antibiotic usage area. The study generated tetH sequence from V. parahaemolyticus for the first time, and the sequence revealed high identity to that of clinical strains. Presence of tetB/ tetH gene was identified as the predictor for the resistance against the first generation tetracycline, the most commonly used antibiotic against Vibrio spp. in aquaculture practices. The data on associations between AMR features predicted certain cross-resistance between antimicrobials within Vibrio spp. Altogether, the paper serves as the baseline for epizootic tracking of public health significant vibrios from diseased fishes, to devise practical guidelines for antibiotic use and to formulate efficient control measures against three Vibrio spp. in aquaculture, targeting final applications in the implementation of national green and healthy aquaculture practices

A rotating charged black string solution in the low energy effective field theory describing five dimensional heterotic string theory is constructed. The solution is labelled by mass, electric charge, axion charge and angular momentum per unit length. The extremal limit of this solution is also studied.Comment: 12 pages, IMSC-93/6,(Phyzzx macro), January 199

Intersecting 6-branes from new 7-manifolds with G_2 holonomy

We discuss a new family of metrics of 7-manifolds with G_2 holonomy, which are R^3 bundles over a quaternionic space. The metrics depend on five parameters and have two Abelian isometries. Certain singularities of the G_2 manifolds are related to fixed points of these isometries; there are two combinations of Killing vectors that possess co-dimension four fixed points which yield upon compactification only intersecting D6-branes if one also identifies two parameters. Two of the remaining parameters are quantized and we argue that they are related to the number of D6-branes, which appear in three stacks. We perform explicitly the reduction to the type IIA model.Comment: 25 pages, 1 figure, Latex, small changes and add refs, version appeared in JHE
