Precision predictions for associated gluino-gaugino production at the LHC
Now that the mass limits for gluinos have been pushed to the few-TeV range,
they might only be visible at the LHC in associated production with lighter
gauginos. We compute the corresponding cross section at next-to-leading
logarithmic (NLL) and next-to-leading order (NLO) precision in the QCD coupling
constant. The resulting expressions are implemented in the public code

Firms that respond quickly to uncertain situations often succeed. However, responsiveness under a higher level of uncertainty is challenging. Another way of looking at uncertainty is to define an opportunity within the crisis. Put differently, uncertainty is not an everyday routine and hence determines an opportunity to demonstrate leadership through responsiveness
Hamel bases and measurability
This is a note - set in the background of some historic comments - discussing the relationship between measurability and Hamel bases for R over Q. We explicitly note that such a basis must necessarily fail to be Borel measurable (or even 'analytic' in the sense of descriptive set theory). We also discuss some constructions in the literature which yield Hamel bases which even fail to be Lebesgue measurable, and discussan elementary construction of a Hamel basis which is Lebesgue measurable
Noncommutative Dynamics of Random Operators
We continue our program of unifying general relativity and quantum mechanics
in terms of a noncommutative algebra on a transformation groupoid
where is the total space of a principal fibre bundle
over spacetime, and a suitable group acting on . We show that
every defines a random operator, and we study the dynamics of
such operators. In the noncommutative regime, there is no usual time but, on
the strength of the Tomita-Takesaki theorem, there exists a one-parameter group
of automorphisms of the algebra which can be used to define a state
dependent dynamics; i.e., the pair , where is a state
on , is a ``dynamic object''. Only if certain additional conditions
are satisfied, the Connes-Nikodym-Radon theorem can be applied and the
dependence on disappears. In these cases, the usual unitary quantum
mechanical evolution is recovered. We also notice that the same pair defines the so-called free probability calculus, as developed by
Voiculescu and others, with the state playing the role of the
noncommutative probability measure. This shows that in the noncommutative
regime dynamics and probability are unified. This also explains probabilistic

Health And Social Status Of Senior Citizens In Rural Areas
Research Problem: What is the quality of life of the elderly people, as also the available support system, in rural areas? Objectives:i) To determine the demographic profile of elderly ii) To assess the socio-economic, nutritional, health, morbidity and dependency status, and health care utilization. Study Design: Population based cross sectional study. Setting: Community Development Block - Lakhanmajra Participants: Persons above the age of 65 years. Sample Size: 809 elderly above the age of 65 years. Study Variables: Demographic profile, Literacy, Occupation, Health, Nutrition, Mobility, Dependency, Substance abuse, Support system. Statistical Analysis: By simple proportions. Result: In this study, majority ofthe elderly were self reliant and mobile, being an asset to the family and led socially useful and productive lives. Their predominant problems were visual impairment, joint pains, respiratory diseases and hearing impairment. Joint family and government pension was the major support system to the elderly. However, there is an imperative need to organize education, training and special service programmes for the elderly at the village level
HSP70 Expression in Skeletal Muscle of Patients with Peripheral Arterial Occlusive Disease
AbstractObjectives: heat shock protein (HSP70) has been studied in the ischaemic myocardium and proven to provide protection against ischaemia. However, HSP70 in ischaemic skeletal muscle in patients with peripheral arterial occlusive disease (PAOD) has not been reported.Methods: thirty-four patients with PAOD (Fontaine's criteria: stage II: 15; III: 9 and IV: 10, respectively) and ten non-PAOD controls were enrolled in the study. Calf muscle samples were taken. HSP70 was quantitated by SDS-PAGE using ultrasensitive silver staining with reference to a series of standard HSP70, and HSP70 mRNA was estimated using RT-PCR.Results: in comparison with the controls [median with range: 24.8 (14.1–35.6) ng in 2.5μg total protein], HSP70 was increased significantly in PAOD [stage II: 93.1 (62.7–114.3); stage III: 110.1 (89.7–134.5) and stage IV: 77.4 (67.3–101.1)]. Similar results were obtained with HSP70 mRNA.Conclusions: HSP70 is increased in the ischaemic skeletal muscle in patients with PAOD, and HSP70 expression is different with regard to clinical stages, and the upregulation of HSP70 mRNA implies that the expression of HSP70 seems to be regulated at transcriptional level
